Mental Health Courts: A Misguided Attempt to Address the Criminal Justice System's Unfair Treatment of People With Mental Illnesses.

Mental health courts have proliferated in tandem with rising concerns about large numbers of people with mental illnesses cycling through the criminal justice system. Although the goals of these problem-solving courts are laudable, they have flourished because of systemic failures in public mental health and the criminal justice system. In addition to raising various civil rights and public policy concerns, these specialty courts are inherently flawed, unintentionally signaling an acceptance of the rates at which people with serious mental illnesses are entering the criminal justice system. Their very presence makes it more difficult to generate political will to address the root of the problem. Telehealth Brain Injury Training for Rural Behavioral Health Generalists: Supporting and Enhancing Rural Service Delivery Networks.

Rural psychologists are frontline primary behavioral health care providers for nearly 60 million Americans, but they face limited access to peer consultation and continuing education. This article describes a program that matched 70 rehabilitation inpatients who had new brain injury with rural clinicians from patients' home communities. Neuropsychologists provided one-on-one training for clinicians through telehealth video teleconferencing. Clinicians showed gains in brain injury knowledge, and clients rated trained providers higher than untrained providers. Families seeking brain injury services can connect with these trained rural providers through a Web site, which receives more than 800 hits per month. Telehealth offers potential for rural clinicians to receive support, reduce professional isolation, gain working knowledge of specialty conditions, and deliver high-quality services for their rural clients. Health Service Use Predictors Among Trauma Survivors: A Critical Review.

This article had 2 aims: (a) to comprehensively review and synthesize the literature on predictors of health service utilization in survivors of traumatic events and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients and (b) to discuss methodological issues in examining service utilization in this population. PsycINFO was searched for relevant articles published through April 2004. Included studies had to primarily sample trauma survivors or PTSD patients and statistically explore health service use determinants. Although some findings conflicted across studies, increased mental health service use was generally related to being female, having a previous trauma history, and having a PTSD diagnosis. Increased medical service use was found among those with a PTSD diagnosis. Methodological recommendations are made for future health service use studies. 基于小波变换方法的高层建筑模态参数辨识

针对高层建筑抗震、抗风、健康监测及损伤诊断等研究中结构模态参数辨识问题,利用随机减量技术从环境激励下的高层建筑振动响应数据中提取自由衰减信号,根据自由衰减信号小波变换结果可以有效地辨识高层建筑固有频率和粘性阻尼系数。通过仿真结果与理论值比较,证实了该方法的有效性和精确性。该方法成功地运用于大连市某高层楼房的固有频率和粘性阻尼系数的辨识,为该高层楼房健康监测提供了重要的参考依据。

压电智能夹层可以有效地解决压电自诊断系统中直接使用压电片引起的弊端.通过适当改进当前的柔性印刷线路工艺制作出的压电智能夹层,不仅具有柔性印刷线路的特点,而且,应用在结构健康监测系统中还有其他一些独特的优越性能.并利用压电智能夹层进行了初步的拉伸载荷识别,同压电片相比,识别效果更明显.

Conditional phase-type distributions for modelling patient length of stay in hospital

The proportion of elderly in the population is continuing to increase, placing additional demands on highly competitive medical budgets. The management of the care of the elderly within hospitals can be assisted by the accurate modelling of the length of stay of patients in hospital. This paper uses conditional phase‐type distributions for modelling the length of stay of a group of elderly patients in hospital. The model incorporates the use of Bayesian belief networks with Coxian phase‐type distributions, a special type of Markov model that describes the duration of stay in hospital as a process consisting of a sequence of latent phases. The incorporation of the Bayesian belief network in the model permits the inclusion of additional patient information which may provide a better understanding of the system, in particular the incorporation of any potential causal information that may exist in the data.
