Urban American Landscape

Landscape architecture has emerged from the deep sleep it entered during the Modernist period and remained in for most of the 20th century. Now, valued because of the environmental movement, stimulated by collaborations with architects and artists, and presented with opportunities to transform abandoned industrial sites, landscape architects are enthusiastically producing new kinds of parks on brownfields, along waterfronts, even on rooftops and in garbage dumps. 本实验研究了分枝石蕊中松萝酸提取方法以及提取条件的优化.结果表明,分枝石蕊中松萝酸的最佳提取条件为料液比为1:10,提取时间为4h,提取温度为60℃,提取次数为2次;黄绿色针状结晶体测得的熔点范围及吸收峰与松萝酸的相关报道一致,说明分枝石蕊是松萝酸提取的一种好材料.这为今后松萝酸的开发利用扩大了原料来源,并奠定了一定的研究基础.     

Designing Inequality?

How much is the design profession to blame for the stark inequality of Brazilian cities and other global metropolises? Ricky Burdett , Professor of Urban Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and Director of its Cities and the Urban Age Programme, questions the ability of designers to often fully ‘grasp the social and environmental implications of the spatial decisions they take’.

Using personality tests in preemployment screening: Issues raised in Soroka v. Dayton Hudson Corporation.

Soroka v Dayton Hudson Corporation was the first case in which, on the basis of individuals' right to privacy, the use of psychological tests by a private sector employer was challenged. This article reviews the factual evidence and documentation from the case, discussing a number of technical and professional issues. Test users should consider the potential implications of using tests containing invasive items, and the relevance of personality constructs and evidence of validity for their use in preemployment screening. The legitimacy and legality of clinical personality tests for preemployment screening are questioned and balanced against the utility of such data for the selection or exclusion of job applicants. Finally, the job relevance of personality constructs, technical requirements for job analytic data, the impact of federal guidelines on employment testing, the face validity of items, and assumptions for generalizing across jobs are examined. Jordan Mozer & Associates: New American narratives
