The objective of this study was to investigate the parameters that govern the drying process of willow chunks. Indicative chunk drying trials were conducted to assess the potential of natural wind drying. Supportive model simulations were conducted to gain insight into the influence of different process parameters (particle size, pile depth) on drying. Natural wind drying experiments showed that willow chunks could be dried from 50% (wet basis) to around 10% within 5 months. Internal heating in the pile did not occur and dry matter losses were reasonably low (3.5–5%). The drying time of willow chunks depended on drying air conditions, particle size and pile dimensions (depth). The particle size of chunks should be large enough to create a low airflow resistance in the pile, but small enough to avoid that internal diffusion of moisture limits the drying process.  相似文献

Land application of organic wastes to short rotation woody crops (SRWC) can reduce the environmental impacts associated with waste disposal and enhance the productivity of biomass production systems. Understanding the potential impacts of organic amendments however, requires the examination of changes in soil characteristics and plant productivity. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of paper sludge and dairy manure on biomass production of shrub willow (Salix dasyclados SV1) and to determine the impacts of these amendments on soil chemical properties. Treatments included urea, dairy manure and paper sludge separately and in combination, and a control. These materials were applied in the summer of 2005 to two fields of SV1 at different stages of growth: An old field with one year old shoots on a 10 year old root system and a young field which was beginning regrowth after being coppiced at the end of its first growing season. Foliar nutrient concentrations and soil chemical properties were analyzed at the end of the second growing season after treatment application to determine plant response to the fertilization regimes and to determine the effects of fertilization on soil characteristics. Fertilization did not increase biomass production in either field. However, application of the N-poor paper sludge did not reduce yield either. In general, fertilization did not influence soil or foliar chemistry, although there were some exceptions. The lack of response observed in this study is probably related to the nutrient status of the site or losses of applied nutrients.  相似文献

Salix cortex-containing medicine is used against pain conditions, fever, headaches, and inflammation, which are partly mediated via arachidonic acid-derived prostaglandins (PGs). We used an activity-guided fractionation strategy, followed by structure elucidation experiments using LC-MS/MS, CD-spectroscopy, and 1D/2D NMR techniques, to identify the compounds relevant for the inhibition of PGE2 release from activated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Subsequent compound purification by means of preparative and semipreparative HPLC revealed 2′-O-acetylsalicortin (1), 3′-O-acetylsalicortin (2), 2′-O-acetylsalicin (3), 2′,6′-O-diacetylsalicortin (4), lasiandrin (5), tremulacin (6), and cinnamrutinose A (7). In contrast to 3 and 7, compounds 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 showed inhibitory activity against PGE2 release with different potencies. Polyphenols were not relevant for the bioactivity of the Salix extract but salicylates, which degrade to, e.g., catechol, salicylic acid, salicin, and/or 1-hydroxy-6-oxo-2-cycohexenecarboxylate. Inflammation presents an important therapeutic target for pharmacological interventions; thus, the identification of relevant key drugs in Salix could provide new prospects for the improvement and standardization of existing clinical medicine.  相似文献

Composition and structure of macroinvertebrate communities were documented in relation to hydrochemical variables over a 10‐month period in four headwater tributaries of the Futaleufú River, northwestern Chubut, Argentina. The streams are located along the strong rainfall gradient that decreases from west to east and they have different basin features. At Blanco and Baggilt streams, riparian vegetation consisted primarily of native Nothofagus forest, while in the Nant y Fall and Rifleros, basins with a long legacy of domestic grazing, the introduced Salix fragilis was the dominant riparian species. Macroinvertebrate species richness, density, and biomass were similar among rivers; however, biomass of shredders was highest in the Nothofagus forested streams and collector‐filterers were significantly higher in Salix fragilis‐bordered rivers. Water temperatures were higher in non‐native Salix sites than in the native or mixed forested sites. Canonical community analysis indicated community composition was related to geomorphic attributes of the rivers, especially slope, basin height (elevation change), distance to the source, substratum size, and Salix coverage. Moreover, seasonally dynamic variables, rainfall and water temperature were good community predictors. Land‐use change (conversion from Nothofagus to pastures and the Salix fragilis invasion in the riverbanks of pasture‐dominated catchments) was interactive with natural stream attributes as determinants of macroinvertebrate distribution and abundance. The Bill Williams (Arizona) is a regulated dryland river that is being managed, in part, for biodiversity via flow management. To inform management, we contrasted riparian plant communities between the Bill Williams and an upstream free‐flowing tributary (Santa Maria). Goals of a first study (1996–1997) were to identify environmental controls on herbaceous species richness and compare richness among forest types. Analyses revealed that herbaceous species richness was negatively related to woody stem density, basal area and litter cover and positively related to light levels. Introduced Tamarix spp. was more frequent at the Bill Williams, but all three main forest types (Tamarix, Salix/Populus, Prosopis) had low understory richness, as well as high stem density and low light, on the Bill Williams as compared to the Santa Maria. The few edaphic differences between rivers (higher salinity at Bill Williams) had only weak connections with richness. A second study (2006–2007) focused on floristic richness at larger spatial scales. It revealed that during spring, and for the study cumulatively (spring and fall samplings combined), the riparian zone of the unregulated river had considerably more plant species. Annuals (vs. herbaceous perennials and woody species) showed the largest between‐river difference. Relative richness of exotic (vs. native) species did not differ. We conclude that: (1) The legacy of reduced scouring frequency and extent at the Bill Williams has reduced the open space available for colonization by annuals; and (2) Change in forest biomass structure, more so than change in forest composition, is the major driver of changes in plant species richness along this flow‐altered river. Cuttings from poplar (Populus) and willow (Salix) trees are used increasingly as supplementary feed for livestock in summer‐dry and drought‐prone regions of New Zealand. The present experiment aimed to measure in vivo organic matter digestibility and digestibility of organic matter in the dry matter in tree fodder and investigated whether the in vitro system of Roughan and Holland can be used to predict in vivo organic matter digestibility and digestibility of organic matter in the dry matter in poplar and willow tree fodder, which contains high concentrations of secondary compounds, including condensed tannin. In vivo work showed that the digestibility of tree fodder declined from late spring to autumn (p < 0.05) and that this decline was much smaller than the decline in digestibility of grass‐based pastures in New Zealand over the same time period. Mean metabolizable energy concentrations and digestibilities were generally higher for willow than for poplar. The in vitro enzymatic system of Roughan and Holland can be used to predict in vivo digestibility of tree fodder. A standard curve using in vivo values determined with animals fed tree fodder would be preferable, owing to the very different chemical compositions of pasture and tree fodder, particularly the greater concentration of secondary compounds in willow and poplar. However, the accuracy and the range of prediction need to be improved. Willow and poplar had similar ME concentrations to high‐quality lucerne hay; willow cuttings also had similar ME and CT concentration to vegetative Lotus corniculatus, a high‐quality forage legume. Reduced disturbances in regulated rivers can result in stable tree colonisation in downstream reaches. We examined spatial and temporal tree colonisation on a midstream sediment bar, focussing on three dominant taxa: Salix spp. (primarily Salix gilgiana), Robinia pseudoacacia and Albizia julibrissin. We developed allometric relationships for tree height, tree age and tree diameter at breast and knee height, as well as relationships between above and below‐ground biomass. The spatial profiles for all individual trees of these taxa were obtained before and after a major flood in September 2007. Pre‐flood data indicate that R. pseudoacacia colonize the highest elevations, A. julibrissin lower elevations and Salix spp. the lowest elevations of the three taxa. The oldest trees at each elevation were found to have survived 1.8–2.5 m inundation in past floods. Results of investigations subsequent to the flood event in September 2007 suggest that trees can survive flooding as long as their roots remain embedded in the soil. Individuals of Salix spp. experienced higher levels of inundation, but showed the greatest survival. This is probably due to morphological acclimations, particularly deep root systems and high elasticity of shoots. Considering inundation depths, erosion depths and sediment particle sizes in tree habitats, we found that sediment mobilization was the major cause of tree mortality. Thus, the ability of Salix spp. to colonize coarse sediments greatly contributed to its survival, as coarse sediments result in significantly less tractive force. 以沙柳为原料,硫酸为催化剂,考察了催化剂浓度、反应时间、反应温度、液固比对沙柳水解制备乙酰丙酸得率的影响,通过正交实验方法得到最佳的水解反应条件为:反应温度200 ℃,反应时间90 min,催化剂质量分数9%,液固比(mL∶g)15∶1,乙酰丙酸的最高得率为18.80%;各因素对水解反应影响的大小顺序为:反应时间>催化剂浓度>反应温度>液固比。在静态条件下,用335弱碱性阴离子交换树脂对水解液进行分离提纯,在附吸温度为35 ℃、树脂投料量为15 g、盐酸洗脱剂浓度为0.5 mol/L时,乙酰丙酸的回收率为95.35%。  相似文献

采用先混合原沙柳和煤粉再制焦的次序,利用热重分析法研究了4种煤半焦和沙柳炭混合物的恒温共热解作用。从胜利煤的变温热解中,选定恒温共热解的温度400、500和600℃来研究温度对沙柳炭和胜利煤半焦混合物共热解作用的影响,结果显示400和600℃表现为协同作用,500℃表现为抑制作用,通过分析选择600℃作为恒温共热解温度。在600℃时,研究了沙柳炭与不同种类煤半焦在不同掺混比例下的恒温共热解,显示沙柳炭对挥发逸出能力较强或较低的煤半焦(霍林河煤和准格尔煤)均表现为抑制作用,对挥发分逸出能力中等的煤半焦(胜利煤和宝日希勒褐煤)表现为协同作用;受煤种的影响,掺混比例对共热解的作用效果大小无固定的排序。  相似文献

The viceroy-monarch and viceroy-queen butterfly associations are classic examples of mimicry. These relationships were originally classified as Batesian, or parasitic, but were later reclassified as Müllerian, or mutalistic, based on predator bioassays. The Müllerian reclassification implies that viceroy is unpalatable because it too is chemically defended like the queen and the monarch. However, unlike the queen and the monarch, the viceroy defensive chemistry has remained uncharacterized. We demonstrate that the viceroy butterfly (Limenitis archippus, Nymphalidae) not only sequesters nonvolatile defensive compounds from its larval host-plant, the Carolina willow (Salix caroliniana, Salicaceae), but also secretes volatile defensive compounds when disturbed. We developed liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-mass spectrometry methods to identify a set of phenolic glycosides shared between the adult viceroy butterfly and the Carolina willow, and solid phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry methods to identify volatile phenolic compounds released from stressed viceroy butterflies. In both approaches, all structures were characterized based on their mass spectral fragmentation patterns and confirmed with authentic standards. The phenolics we found are known to deter predator attack in other prey systems, including other willow-feeding insect species. Because these compounds have a generalized defensive function at the concentrations we described, our results are consistent with the Müllerian reclassification put forth by other researchers based on bioassay results. It seems that the viceroy butterfly possesses chemical defenses different from its monarch and queen butterfly counterparts (phenolic glycosides vs. cardiac glycosides, respectively), an unusual phenomenon in mimicry warranting future study.  相似文献
