Dialogue as the interplay of otherness and shared humanity.

Presents a reply by B. Fowers and B. Davidov to Islam's comments (see record 2007-14606-019) regarding their article (see record 2006-11202-002). Islam noted that virtues are often presented as universally valid character strengths, yet formulations of virtues are always embedded in a particular cultural context, a point we took pains to make in our article. We focus our response on Islam's important suggestion that this tension between universal human characteristics and the particulars of cultural context is indissoluble. Whereas he suggested this tension leads to contradiction and paradox, we see it as a fertile dialectic. The virtue of openness to the other is also subject to the same tension of abstract formulation and particular application. Although we formulated this virtue in a very general way, any instantiation of it would be shaped by the particulars of the cultural context and the situation in which it is exercised. We introduced the concept of dialogue because it is constituted not only by differences between individuals or groups but even more fundamentally by the dialectical relationship between those differences in cultural particularities and the universal human capacities for reason, curiosity, and social engagement, among others. Dialogue acknowledges the indissoluble otherness one finds in those culturally different from oneself, and yet real interchange can only occur because participants in dialogue exercise the cognitive flexibility characteristic of human beings and recognize a shared humanity with the other. Confucian and Socratic learning.

Replies to the comments by R. A. R. Gurung (see record 2003-03405-011) and J. Li (see record 2003-03405-012) regarding comments on the article by R. G. Tweed and D. R. Lehman (2001) which stated that a Confucian-Socratic framework provides a structure for analyzing culture-influenced aspects of academic learning. In this article, Tweed and Lehman argued that these ancient exemplars model approaches to learning continue to differentiate students within a modern Canadian postsecondary context. In this reply, Tweed and Lehman advise caution in how Gurung placed their Confucian-Socratic framework within the context of prior theory on education and epistemological development because these models were developed exclusively in the West. Furthermore, Tweed and Lehman believe that Li's argument misinterpreted their article, and that they should of consistently used the term "personal reform" rather than "behavioral reform" in order to communicate the depth of personal change envisioned by Confucius. Stabilization techniques for spectral methods

We introduce a stabilized treatment of spectral methods. The condition number of the spectral systems is highly improved. Elliptic and biharmonic problems are considered. Suitable interpolants in the case of inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions are presented. For a direct solver the improvements with respect to rounding error propagation are numerically demonstrated.     

珠江口盆地开平凹陷油气聚集条件分析

珠江口盆地自新生代以来,曾先后受到不同方向张应力的作用,造成了不同时期构造体系的交叉叠合.中中新世以来构造运动强烈,并具有东强西弱的特点,对油气的运移与聚集产生了重要影响.开平凹陷的剧烈断裂和断陷活动始于始新世,并在同期沉积了巨厚的文昌组.晚渐新世以后,由于断裂活动非常微弱,在成熟的烃源岩与其上地层之间缺乏有效的油源断层,因而自生自储、近距离运移可能是开平凹陷油气聚集的基本特征.在凹陷内部,因重力滑动和欠压实泥岩共同作用所形成的KPll-1构造带可能是该区最具有油气远景的地区.     

HL-1M装置的真空运行与质谱诊断

通过对 HL- 1M装置真空运行模式、真空运行参数、氦辉光放电清洗和硅化壁处理手段等的规范化 ,显著地改善了装置的真空壁出气、本底杂质浓度、托卡马克放电杂质出气比和再循环 ,成功地实现了高参数放电、长脉冲放电和装置暴露大气后快速恢复放电 ,并成功地为演证低混杂电流驱动、离子回旋共振加热、电子回旋共振加热、中性束注入、弹丸注入和分子束注入实验和升级等离子体运行等提供了良好的真空壁条件。描述了 HL- 1M装置真空系统、壁出气和再循环控制、质谱诊断和程序脉冲送气等方面的主要实验成果 ,并为 HL- 2 A装置的真空系统研制和运行提供了有益的参考     

爆破条件对爆破震动信号分析中小波包时频特征的影响

非平稳信号的小波包分析是在小波变换基础上发展起来的 ,它对小波分析中没有细分的高频部分进一步分解 ,从而能够对信号局部信息进行更为精细的掌握。爆破条件是影响爆破震动时频特征分布的主要因素之一。本研究中 ,针对在不同段药量、不同微差间隔时间及近似相同的其它条件下产生的爆破震动信号 ,运用小波包分析方法对其进行了时频分析 ,主要探讨了段药量、段微差间隔时间对爆破震动时频分布的影响规律。段药量对爆破震动波形时频特征的影响主要体现在各层小波包主振频带内的细节信号峰值质点振速方面 ,各细节信号的峰值质点振速随段药量增加而增大 ,但主振频带分布保持基本的一致性 ,同一主振频带下小波包细节信号的阻尼比也趋于一致 ;段微差时间间隔对爆破震动时频特征的影响主要表现在 :延长各主振频带小波包细节信号的振动持时 ,不同微差单段波形的叠加增加了主振频带个数 (优势频率个数 )并使各频带内的优势频率值有微弱增大的趋势     

分形粗糙面的电磁散射－扩展边界条件

用扩展边界条件方法对分形粗糙良导体面及介质面的电磁散射问题进行了分析。用推广的Floquet模式，在分界面处将场分量用Fourier级数展开，根据边界条件及扩展边界条件得到了水平极化和垂直极化散射场的幅度分量的表达式。用其它近似方法（Kirchhoff和Rayleigh方法）及能量守恒准则验证了此方法的有效性。     

复杂开采条件矿体三强回采作业技术应用

本文针对金翅岭金矿矿体开采条件极其复杂的情况，在采矿方法试验中，率先在岩金矿山采用了三强作业技术，既保证了安全回采，又取是了较好的技术经济指标。     

弹性杆与水下壳体接触冲击的冲击力计算研究

对弹性杆与水下壳体接触冲击问题进行了研究，用有限元法模拟壳体，边界无法模拟无限域流体，通过温面上的耦合条件进行联立求解，文中给出了典型算例，并进行了有关讨论。
