Cie guidelines for coordinated future work on industrial colour-difference evaluation

Recent results of research work on colour-difference evaluation are reviewed in reports of two CIE Technical Committees; however, a global solution of the problem is still lacking. Therefore, guidelines for planning new research work are included in those reports. Here, these guidelines are explained and extended to stimulate new studies in a coordinated way, which could improve modeling of colour-difference evaluations for industrial applications.

Ethical Guidelines for Psychologist Participation in Death Penalty Proceedings: A Survey.

Many states are reinstituting the death penalty and are asking psychologists to participate in the sentencing process. In some states we are asked to predict whether the person is likely to be a continuing danger to society. In other states we are asked if there are any reasons why the person should not be put to death. The question remains as to whether we as a profession want to be used as "agents of the State" in criminal, especially death penalty, proceedings. The APA (1978) task force recommended that as protection from abuses, ethical guidelines be instituted for psychologists working in legal settings. The basic thrust of these guidelines is the ensure that mental health expert testimony is truly expert and rest of a scientific, empirical base. The practice of forensic psychology: A look toward the future in light of the past.

In a 1987 American Psychologist article, Tom Grisso summarized the state of forensic psychological assessment, noted its limitations and potential, and offered suggestions for researchers and practitioners interested in contributing to its future. Since that time, there have been many important developments in the field of forensic psychology, as well as in clinical psychology more generally, some of which were anticipated and recommended by Grisso, and some of which were not. Forensic psychology is now at a crossroads, and the specialty must make an effort to respond to current challenges if it is to aid in the administration of justice by assisting legal decision makers. The need to distinguish between and identify levels of forensic knowledge and practice, establish guidelines for practice, educate legal consumers, and devote more attention to treatment issues in forensic contexts is highlighted. Manufacturers' compliance with the US Food and Drug Administration's Over‐the‐counter Human Drugs: Labeling Requirements

The use of over‐the‐counter (OTC) medications is increasing every year among consumers for symptomatic relief of ailments. Consumers have difficulties in reading and comprehending information on the OTC medication packages. A standardized format to present information on OTC medication packages was necessary; hence the FDA announced guidelines, Over‐the‐counter Human Drugs: Labeling Requirements, on 11 March 1999. Manufacturers have been given 6 years since 1999 to comply with the FDA guidelines. The objective of our study was to evaluate marketed OTC medication packages to determine the extent of adoption of the FDA guidelines by manufacturers. Packages (n ± 104) of OTC medication products from three different categories, viz. pain relievers, cough and cold remedies and stomach remedies, were evaluated for general information, written information and product claims. The Compugraphic point system scale was used to measure the font size of written information. In addition variables recommended by the FDA, such as bullets, paragraphs and hyphenations, were also evaluated. All the variables were coded in a database and analysed using the SAS (Version 8.2) statistical package. The study found that some manufacturers have adopted the FDA guidelines. However, many manufacturers did not implement several aspects of the guidelines. Although manufacturers still have a few more years to adhere to the guidelines, early implementation could benefit the consumers. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Specialty Guidelines for the Delivery of Services by School Psychologists.

The present Specialty Guidelines are based on the generic Standards for Providers of Psychological Services originally adopted by the American Psychological Association (APA) in September 1974 and revised in January 1977 (APA, 1974b, 1977b). Together with the generic Standards, these Specialty Guidelines state the official policy of the Association regarding delivery of services by school psychologists. Specialty guidelines serve the additional purpose of providing potential users and other interested groups with essential information about particular services available from the several specialties in professional psychology. The present Guidelines are intended to educate the public, the profession, and other interested parties regarding specialty professional practices. They are also intended to facilitate the continued systematic development of the profession. These Guidelines have been established by the APA as a means of self-regulation to protect the public interest. They guide the specialty practice of school psychology by specifying important areas of quality assurance and performance that contribute to the goal of facilitating more effective human functioning. Security in open systems networks

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is responsible for the development and dissemination of cost-effective solutions for protecting unclassified information processed by US Government agencies. NIST activities include developing standards and guidelines, providing advice and assistance to US Government agencies, and conducting research. Ongoing work addresses application issues such as encryption, risk management, and network security techniques. Future challenges in computer security will include the development of new cost-effective solutions for complex and decentralized systems of the 1990s.

"贴线率"概念来源于美国城市规划中的"街道墙"概念。而通过考察"贴线率"指标的使用现状,发现其内涵及算法存在多种不一致的表述。针对其算法不够完善,控制效果有限等问题,提出回归"街道墙"本源,限定其使用范围;或者建立根植于我国城市形态特点及规划实践现实的,较为全面的街道界面形态规划控制指标体系这两条可能的途径,以供探讨。     

What we know and what we should know about virgin oils – a general introduction

On international scale the Codex Alimentarius Standard for Named Vegetable Oils differentiates between virgin oils and cold‐pressed oils, while in Germany virgin, non‐refined and refined oils are available. Here cold‐pressed is an additional quality feature. The paper explains and comments the various definitions for vegetable oils other than olive oil obtained by mechanical extraction only, because they are partly contradictory. Resulting from gentle processing virgin oils are often appreciated by the consumers as the better oils. The answer of the present paper to the question which type of oil is better is that there is no better or worse oil, but only a better or worse suitability of an oil for application in food processing or the kitchen. Finally, the paper picks up the upcoming debate on the potential ’?new' contaminant, 3‐MCPD‐fatty acid esters, which were found in refined oils.
