A new two‐step synthesis of ZrO2‐MCM nanocomposites using the gel combustion technique was accomplished; the resulting material had a high‐surface area and showed very high adsorption activity. The deposition of 2–5 nm ZrO2 particles over MCM was achieved using gel combustion technique with glycine as a fuel, and the formation of nanocomposites was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy. The composites were also characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR and N2 adsorption‐desorption analysis. The nanocomposites were tested for the adsorption of cationic dyes. High rates of adsorption and large dye uptake were observed over the nanocomposites. The rate of adsorption over the nanocomposites was higher than that observed for physical ZrO2‐MCM mixtures and commercial activated carbon. The nanocomposite with 10 wt % ZrO2 showed the highest rate of adsorption owing to the synergistic effects of ZrO2 surface groups, smaller particle size, fine dispersion and high‐surface area of the composite. © 2012 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 58: 2987–2996, 2012 相似文献

The impact of acid and base adsorption capacities of activated carbon (AC) particles with activation condition, contact time, specific surface area (SSA), particle size, concentration, and temperature was studied. AC was pre-treated by sonication to improve the surface characteristics and enhance its adsorption capacity. Sonication increased the SSA of AC. SEM imaging showed good dispersion and uniform AC particles with an average diameter of about 0.6 μm. The adsorption results demonstrated that AC surfaces possessed effective interactions with acids and bases, and the greatest adsorption capacity was achieved with CH3COOH, where data were analyzed by Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. It was found that the isotherm data correlated well with the Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption of raw AC particles increased under sonication conditions. The adsorption process with sonicated and unsonicated AC particles obeyed pseudo first-order kinetics. 相似文献

The present article reports results of the studies on adsorptive removal of catechol and resorcinol from aqueous solution by granular activated carbon (GAC). Physico-chemical characterization including surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) of the GAC before and after catechol and resorcinol adsorption have been done to understand the adsorption mechanism. Bulk density and heating value of GAC were found to be 725 kg/m3 and 8.26 MJ/kg, respectively. The BET surface area was 977.6 m2/g whereas the BET average pore diameter was 18.79 Å. Different experimental parameters like initial pH, initial dosage, contact time, and initial concentration were evaluated for their effect on the adsorption of catechol and resorcinol onto GAC. The kinetics of adsorption was found to be described by the pseudo-second order equation. Results of the intra-particle diffusion model show that the pore diffusion is not the only rate limiting step. The effective diffusion coefficient of catechol and resorcinol were of the order of 2.9 × 10?10 and 2.2 × 10?10 m2/s. 相似文献

在T型对撞反应器的基础上,对其结构进行改进,设计了旋流锥型对撞、T型旋撞和旋流锥型旋撞(二次旋转)3种撞击流反应器。用化学吸收法测量了这几种不同结构的微反应器在气液二相逆流接触条件下平均相界比表面积α及液相吸收传质系数kL;进而分析了反应器进口结构、尺寸和流体流量等条件对传质性能的影响。结果表明:旋撞比直撞的传质系数大,二次旋撞的比一次旋撞的传质系数要大;撞击区进口尺寸越小,气液流体的流量越大,反应器的传质系数越大;液相传质系数较常规气液接触设备的至少高1—2个数量级,其传质强化的原因主要源于微反应器内相界比表面积大幅度地增加。 相似文献
