Automobiles, aircraft, and ships require tremendously many parts to be assembled. For developing such large assemblies, most companies accelerate the design process by having many design engineers in different functional or sectional design groups working concurrently. However, interferences and gaps can be found when the parts and sub-assemblies of different design groups are to be assembled. These error cause design changes and additional repair processes, resulting in an unexpected increase in costs and time delays. While the interference problem has been resolved by digital mockup and concurrent engineering methodology, many cases of the gap problem in the automotive industry have been covered by temporary treatments when the gaps are small enough to be filled with sealants. This kind of fast fix can cause leakage into the engine chamber and passenger cabin when the gap size is too big for filling or when the sealant gets old, which can turn fatal. With this research, we have developed a program to automatically find gaps between the parts of an assembly so that design engineers can correct their designs before the manufacturing stage begins. By using the method of decomposition model representation, the program can visualize gaps between complex car body parts as well as estimate their volumetric information. It can also automatically define the boundary between a gap and the exterior space. Although we have reviewed the benefits of the program by applying it to car development, it can also be applied to aircraft and ship designs comprising several parts.  相似文献

Design for manufacturing (DFM) approaches aim to integrate manufacturability aspects during the design stage. Most of DFM approaches usually consider only one manufacturing process, but product competitiveness may be improved by designing hybrid modular products, in which products are seen as 3-D puzzles with modules realized individually by the best manufacturing process and further gathered. A new DFM system is created in order to give quantitative information during the product design stage of which modules will benefit in being machined and which ones will advantageously be realized by an additive process (such as Selective Laser Sintering or laser deposition). A methodology for a manufacturability evaluation in case of a subtractive or an additive manufacturing process is developed and implemented in a CAD software. Tests are carried out on industrial products from automotive industry.  相似文献

Efficient surface reconstruction and reverse engineering techniques are usually based on a polygonal mesh representation of the geometry: the resulting models emerge from piecewise linear interpolation of a set of sample points. The quality of the reconstruction not only depends on the number and density of the sample points but also on their alignment to sharp and rounded features of the original geometry. Bad alignment can lead to severe alias artifacts. In this paper we present a sampling pattern for feature and blend regions which minimizes these alias errors. We show how to improve the quality of a given polygonal mesh model by resampling its feature and blend regions within an interactive framework. We further demonstrate sophisticated modeling operations that can be implemented based on this resampling technique.  相似文献

Real-time free-form deformation tools are primarily based on surface or particle representations to allow for interactive modification and fast rendering of complex models. The efficient handling of volumetric representations, however, is still a challenge and has not yet been addressed sufficiently. Volumetric models, on the other hand, form an important class of representation in many applications. In this paper we present a novel approach to the real-time deformation of scalar volume data sets taking advantage of hardware supported 3D texture mapping. In a prototype implementation a modeling environment has been designed that allows for interactive manipulation of arbitrary parts of volumetric objects. In this way, any desired shape can be modeled and used subsequently in various applications. The underlying algorithms have wide applicability and can be exploited effectively for volume morphing and medical data processing.  相似文献

In this paper, we present efficient algorithms for collision detection of arbitrarily shaped rigid moving objects in a variety of interactive as well as non-interactive environments. The algorithms primarily consist of two stages. The first stage involves finding candidate objects for possible collisions. The second stage involves detecting exact (within a prespecified tolerance) collision between these candidates. The primary data structure used in the algorithms is an octree. In the first stage, we build an octree for the enclosure containing the objects, which is used to detect possible collisions. Assuming spatial/temporal coherence i.e., that the particles move slowly or that the time sampling is fast enough, the average time complexity of this stage can be shown to be O(n) (excluding the time complexity for a one time octree construction), where n is the number of particles. In the second stage, we build a surface-octree for each object. If the objects are convex and assuming coherence, the expected time complexity to detect precise (within a prespecified tolerance) collision for each pair is a constant (excluding the time complexity for a one time surface-octree construction). Therefore, the overall expected time complexity for convex object collision detection is linear with respect to n. For the concave objects, complexity analysis is nontrivial to perform and instead we provide a very practical (almost linear time) algorithm. We apply our algorithms to particle flow simulations by simulating flow density conditions often arising in granular flows.  相似文献
