Community OR — Five Years of Organised Activities and Beyond

What has become known as Community Operational Research has been around in the UK for many years. The election of Jonathan Rosenhead as President of the UK OR Society in 1986–87 was the catalyst for bringing together and expanding activities which had been carried out largely by individuals working in isolation on a voluntary basis. The following five years have seen the establishment of the Community OR Unit at Northern College, the Centre for Community OR at Hull University and the Community OR Network, which supports the activities of volunteer OR workers across the UK. This paper reviews the range and types of work which have been undertaken by various practitioners. An assessment of the success of community OR is made and a number of issues which have arisen are discussed. Finally, given the diverse nature of community OR, its practice and practitioners, there is some discussion about the future of the area.     

烃氧化产物皂化后活性组分在油、水相的分配

用强酸酸化后测定乙醚抽出物酸量和酯量、溴甲酚绿两相滴定测定羧酸盐等方法研究了烃氧化产物皂化后活性组分在油、水相的分配。结果表明,在现行的用NaOH皂化烃氧化产物以制备水溶性石油磺酸盐的过程中有相当多的活性组分分配到油相;在水相和油相中均有大量羧酸酯存在,羧酸酯量远远超过羧酸盐量。     

泥浆制备中工艺改造的研究

根据室条件下粉磨试验结果，发现球磨过程中筛上料变化存在的突变范围，提出两次加料一次加水可改变泥浆颗粒分布，并找出适宜的加料种类与时间。另外给予测粒度分布提供了宝贵的试验基础数据。     

平面分层介质结构全波分析综述

本文综述了广义谱域导抗法，直线法及直线法的快速算法，全波离散镜象法等主要方法，并对各种方法的特点进行了比较，这些方法可有效地处理平面分层介质结构问题，文中包括作者近期的研究成果。     

Kinetic study of the hydrolysis of isocyanic acid in the gas phase

The hydrolysis of isocyanic acid in the gaseous phase has been investigated at temperatures between 553 and 613 K by mass spectrometry and evaluated to obtain the corresponding kinetic data. The reaction order and reaction constant have been determined. Finally, the influence of water on the catalysed formation of melamine from isocyanic acid under the operating conditions employed has been investigated in order to determine whether there is a need to try the process gas.     

Studies on the interactions of metal oxides and Na2 SO4 at 1100 and 1200 K in oxygen

The interaction of different metal oxides such as Co₃O₄, NiO, Al₂O₃, Cr₂O₃, Fe₂O₃ and SiO₂ with Na₂SO₄ at a temperature of 1100 and 1200 K in flowing oxygen has been studied. The thermogravimetric studies for each system were carried out as a function of Na₂SO₄ in the mixture. The presence of different constituents in the reaction products were identified by X-ray diffraction analysis and the morphologies of the reaction products were characterized using metallography and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The formation of products was also investigated by thermodynamic computation of free energies of the reactions and the study of relevant equilibrium phase diagrams. The soluble species in the aqueous solutions of the reaction products were determined quantitatively using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The high temperature interaction products usually contain a 3-phase structure namely, Na₂O·M₂O _x , M₂O _x and metal sulphide and/or metal sulphate. The formation of Na₂O·M₂O _x depends upon the solid state solubility of metal oxide in the molten salt at high temperatures. Under limited solubility conditions Na₂O·M₂O _x is invariably formed, but as soon as this condition is relaxed the oxide. M₂O _x , precipitates and forms a separate phase.

矩形板压电振子振动有限元分析

利用有限元法，对具有四个凸起的矩形板压电振子的振动状态进行了解析计算，并根据其振动特点，重新选择结构参数制作了超声矩形板马达，结果大大提高了这种马达的转速和效率等性能。     

精密角位移传感器及其可靠性研究

从理论上探讨了磁阻率效应，叙述了精密角位移传感器的工作原理及结构设计。传感器的分辨率已达０．０１°，通过可靠性寿命试验，传感器的失效率λ（ｔ）＜１×１０－７／ｈ。     

APPLICATION OF THE POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION TO THE RAPID ANALYSIS OF BREWERY YEAST STRAINS

The rapid discrimination of closely-related Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains can pose a significant problem to breweries, in particular where closely related strains are being used simultaneously to manufacture different products. In this study, two PCR approaches have been examined to assess their usefulness for the discrimination of brewery ale and lager yeast strains. PCR using arbitrary primers (RAPD PCR) was found unsuitable for such an application since the DNA profiles generated from brewery strains were generally found to be identical, due presumably to the close genetic relatedness of these yeasts. In contrast, PCR using δ sequence primers could rapidly differentiate between many ale and lager strains and characteristic profiles for these were generated. This method could also be applied directly to yeasts isolated from brewery worts or from active dried yeast preparations. Results of such analyses were available within the working day.
