A series of four stable synthetic bacteriochlorins was tested in vitro in HeLa cells for their potential in photodynamic therapy (PDT). The parent bacteriochlorin (BC), dicyano derivative (NC)2BC and corresponding zinc chelate (NC)2BC–Zn and palladium chelate (NC)2BC–Pd were studied. Direct dilution of a solution of bacteriochlorin in an organic solvent (N,N‐dimethylacetamide) into serum‐containing medium was compared with the dilution of bacteriochlorin in Cremophor EL (CrEL; polyoxyethylene glycerol triricinoleate) micelles into the same medium. CrEL generally reduced aggregation (as indicated by absorption and fluorescence) and increased activity up to tenfold (depending on bacteriochlorin), although it decreased cellular uptake. The order of PDT activity against HeLa human cancer cells after 24 h incubation and illumination with 10 J cm?2 of near‐infrared (NIR) light is (NC)2BC–Pd (LD50=25 nM ) > (NC)2BC > (NC)2BC–Zn ≈ BC. Subcellular localization was determined to be in the endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria and lysosomes, depending on the bacteriochlorin. (NC)2BC–Pd showed PDT‐mediated damage to mitochondria and lysosomes, and the greatest production of hydroxyl radicals as determined using a hydroxyphenylfluorescein probe. The incorporation of cyano substituents provides an excellent motif for the enhancement of the photoactivity and photostability of bacteriochlorins as PDT photosensitizers.  相似文献

Invasive aquatic species discharged through ballast water is one of the most serious problems posed nowadays in the marine environment. This review paper summarizes the available technologies applied for ballast water treatment. These technologies can be either port‐based or ship‐based, with the latter being easier to implement. Special emphasis was given to onboard treatment methods, which can be categorized as physical separation, mechanical or chemical methods. The efficiency of the methods, as well as the capacity of application and the target microorganisms were compiled and are presented in this review. The freshwater zebra mussel Dreissena polymorpha is a powerful biofouling bivalve, which has tremendous impact on industrial facilities whose operation depends on the intensive use of freshwater, such as waterworks and power stations. The control of the pest in industrial environments remains a major challenge due to low selectivity over non-target organisms and the expense of the large quantities of biocides required. A novel delivery technique involving the encapsulation of a toxin within hundred micron-sized particles, edible for the bivalves, has been recently proposed. This strategy exploits the mussels’ filtration activity and minimises their avoidance responses to certain chemicals, resulting in an increase of their susceptibility to the biocide. In the present paper, which further develops this approach, a new, promising toxin-loaded particulate formulation is presented. The effectiveness of the product as a molluscicide has been demonstrated in laboratory bioassays. Encapsulation was observed to reduce the amount of biocide required to achieve 90% mortality in a 12-h treatment by a factor of approximately three. The dependence of the biocide-loaded particles’ molluscicidal activity on their physical characteristics is also illustrated in this paper by comparing the features of the promising formulation to those of an unsuccessful particulate product.  相似文献

The increasing recognition and production of stingless bee honey has raised the needs to develop rapid, sensitive and accurate methodologies for honey identification through bees' species from the DNA of bees present in honey. Genetic identification of raw honeys produced by different bee species from Malaysia was performed based on mitochondrial DNA sequences and phylogenetic analysis by means of forensically informative nucleotide sequencing (FINS) technique. The 300 bp of mitochondrial large subunit ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene region and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene region were the gene markers used to classify and identify honey produced by Apis honey bees and Trigona stingless bees. The genetic identities of honey origin from Apis dorsata, Apis mellifera, Apis cerana, and Heterotrigona itama were accurately identified. Kelulut honey sourced from the stingless bee was distinguishable from other Apis type of honeys in phylogenetic analyses. This FINS technique is a specific and reliable method for identification of honey origin via its bee source that can be used to overcome the issue of false declaration of honey origin and mislabelling.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of heat treatment on surface roughness and hardness of four wood species, namely black alder (Alnus glutinosa L.), red oak (Quercus falcata Michx.), Southern pine (Pinus taeda L.) and yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera). Samples were exposed to heat treatment schedules having two temperature and exposure levels of 120 °C and 190 °C for 3 and 6 h, respectively. Average hardness value of red oak samples exposed to a temperature of 190 °C for 6 h was 41.7% lower than that recorded before the heat treatment. Temperature of 190 °C produced 7.9% lower hardness values for black alder with the increased exposure time from 3 h to 6 h. No significant differences were found between same type of Southern pine and yellow poplar specimens before and after the heat treatment in terms of their hardness values. Among the four species considered in this study red oak having the most porous anatomical structure showed the roughest surface. An improvement in surface quality (Ra) with 7.46% with extending exposure time from 3 h to 6 h at the temperature level of 190 °C was noticed. However all four types of wood species kept in the oven at 190° for 6 h presented smoother surface quality. It was found that increased temperature from 120 °C to 190 °C for both exposure times showed significant differences from the surface quality of nontreated samples at 95% confidence level. The anatomical structure of samples was also observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and some damage of the cell wall was determined due to heat treatment. The findings of this study demonstrated that heat treatment resulted in adverse effect on hardness characteristics of the samples. It appears that strength losses can be limited through alternative modified heat treatment techniques. On the other hand, surface quality of the samples from all species was enhanced as a result of heat treatment. Therefore such heat treatment would be considered to improve surface quality of the sample for furniture applications where smooth surfaces are ideal adding potential value on wood material to be used more effectively in furniture manufacturing.  相似文献

Oxidation reactions by molecular oxygen (O2) over palladium (Pd)‐based nanomaterials are a series of processes crucial to the synthesis of fine chemicals. In the past decades, investigations of related catalytic materials have mainly been focused on the synthesis of Pd‐based nanomaterials from the angle of tailoring their surface structures, compositions and supporting materials, in efforts to improve their activities in organic reactions. From the perspective of rational materials design, it is imperative to address the fundamental issues associated with catalyst performance, one of which should be oxygen activation by Pd‐based nanomaterials. Here, the fundamentals that account for the transformation from O2 to reactive oxygen species over Pd, with a focus on singlet O2 and its analogue, are introduced. Methods for detecting and differentiating species are also presented to facilitate future fundamental research. Key factors for tuning the oxygen activation efficiencies of catalytic materials are then outlined, and recent developments in Pd‐catalyzed oxygen‐related organic reactions are summarized in alignment with each key factor. To close, we discuss the challenges and opportunities for photocatalysis research at this unique intersection as well as the potential impact on other research fields.  相似文献

互联网宏观拓扑结构下时延特征的研究对互联网结构与性能的理解具有重要作用。择取CAIDA Ark项目下分别位于4个不同地区的探测数据,提取网络时延与通信直径,发现网络时延与通信直径关系很小且超过70%的有效路径中存在支配时延。经分析,正是支配时延的存在影响了网络时延与通信直径的关系。对支配时延链路两端进行地理映射,发现支配时延以较高概率出现在同一国家同一城市某一链路传输之间。在此基础上,得出链路两端距离小于5 000 km的支配时延主要由排队时延组成,而链路两端距离大于5 000 km的支配时延主要由传播时延组成的结论。  相似文献
