Advanced modulation formats for more robust optical transmission systems

Interest in advanced modulation formats for optical communication systems has so far experienced two major waves. The first one was motivated by the potential to enhance receiver sensitivity of thermal noise-limited systems using coherent detection in combination with phase shift keying. It ended with the advent of optical amplification, enabling high sensitivities together with polarization insensitive, simple and stable direct detection. The second wave is still rolling, fueled by the potential of advanced modulation formats to increase robustness of optical transmission systems against signal distortions. Due to performance limitations given by direct detection and nonlinear effects in the transmission fiber, it is not decided yet, whether there will be widespread application in carrier networks.

Experimental Study of Concrete Subjected to Explosive Loading

The main subject of this paper is to demonstrate the response of structural concrete to different imposed strain rates. Attention is focused on the strain rate about 10^-2 s ^-1>, where some technical difficulties are experienced when an exact determination of mechanical properties for quasi-brittle materials is attempted. The design of a measurement system, which realizes computer acquisition, analysis, and graphic representation of data, is also presented.     

针梁台车在大花水水电站引水隧洞混凝土衬砌施工中的改进

大花水水电站引水隧洞由于前期开挖工期略有滞后，为加快施工进度，结合全圆断面的施工特点，大部分引水隧洞采用了全圆针梁穿行式钢模台车进行混凝土衬砌。通过各参建单位对针梁台车的运用和改进，有效地提高了引水隧洞混凝土的衬砌速度，并确保了工程质量。

Effect of specimen size and loading conditions on spalling of concrete

Different qualities of concrete have been fire tested using different geometries of the specimens as well as different load levels and load configurations. The main objective with the study was to examine a test methodology consisting of a full‐scale test and different small scale‐tests for determining the probability of spalling and the amount of spalling of fire exposed concrete structures. A reference specimen was defined as a one‐sided fire exposed slab with the dimensions 1800 × 1200 mm² giving an exposed area of 1500 × 1200 mm². A number of concrete qualities with different probabilities for spalling, were tested using the reference specimen. These tests showed that the reference specimens worked well giving the expected test results. Small specimens were manufactured in different shapes with the same concrete as the one used in the reference tests. These small specimens were tested either at the same time as the reference specimens in the large furnace or afterwards on a small‐scale furnace where the fire exposed surface was 450 × 360 mm². The test results clearly show the increased probability and the increased amount of spalling by using external compressive loading. The results also show that by using pre‐stress through bars or wires the load can be lost due to heating of the bars/wires which results in a decreased amount of spalling. The boundary of the specimen also affects the amount of spalling. The spalling around the edges was in all tests less than the spalling on the central parts of the exposed area. It could also be noted that the spalling did not pass completely through any of the specimens. The reason for this is probably that the water/vapour could migrate out from the unexposed surface of the specimen. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

A limit analysis of nonlinear elastic lateral displacements of thin-walled reinforced and prestressed beams

An incremental iterative process based on direct energy minimization is presented for a limit analysis of nonlinear elastic lateral displacements and twists of reinforced and prestressed beams. Problems encountered with the constitutive relations are discussed and two possible material models are presented.     

中原油田水平井钻井液技术

根据中原油田地层高温、高盐、易塌、易漏失及水平井的特点,优选了适用于水平井的强抑制强封堵聚合物钻井液体系,并进行了现场应用.室内实验结果表明,优选的强抑制强封堵聚合物钻井液具有良好的井眼净化、摩阻控制、井壁稳定及油层保护等性能.现场应用时能满足钻井、录井、测井的需要,钻井施工顺利,取得了良好的经济和社会效益.     

无线随钻测量技术的应用现状与发展趋势

目前,无线随钻测量技术是石油工程技术发展的一个主要方向。详细介绍了无线随钻测量仪器的传输方式、国内外无线随钻测量技术的主要进展和应用现状,指出了国内外无线随钻测量仪器的优缺点和应用范围,分析了无线随钻测量技术的发展趋势,并提出我国应在借鉴国外先进的无线随钻测量技术的基础上,研制具有自主知识产权的无线随钻测量仪器,以加快我国无线随钻测量技术的发展,缩短与国际先进水平的差距。     

Polymer-Modified Bitumen Using Ethylene Terpolymers

Polymer modified bitumen (PMB) is used in various construction applications, especially in motorways. The aim of this study is to improve features of 60/70 penetration grade, modified bitumen used on highways. Increasing the sensitivity to temperature and oxidation resistance are very important points for the modified bitumen. This condition was provided by reacting the carboxylic acid groups in asphaltene with the reactive ethylene terpolymer to form ester. Reactive ethylene terpolymer (RETP) and ethylene terpolymer (ETP) manufactured by DuPont USA were used as additives in this study. Infrared Spectrophotometer (IR) graphics and optical pictures of the modified bitumen have been examined. It has been observed that the softening point has increased on the other hand, the penetration and ductility values have decreased according to the test results.
