Reply to Silverman.

Responds to commentary by I. Silverman (see record 2007-08963-001) entitled "Review of Pure types are rare": Comment on book review. I do not think that either one of us will change his position, and therefore it is up to the interested (yet disinterested) reader to adjudicate our dispute by checking Professor Silverman's book and his references. In the process, the reader will be forced to consider the thought-provoking implications for our mental health system of some of the incidents which the author describes so vividly, and that will not be a bad thing. There is one point, however, which is worth pursuing further here, for Professor Silverman persists in an elementary statistical fallacy. Let us take the situation which he cites, where the base rate for diagnosing schizophrenia is 50%. Suppose with the same base rate the degree of agreement is in fact 53%; this is far above chance level. It must be emphasized, however, that the 53% agreement under discussion came not from a study where the base rate for diagnosing schizophrenia was 50%, but from one where the conditions were far more stringent since the base rate for diagnosing schizophrenia was around 20%. The Effect of Post-Cooking Holding Times on Sensory Assessment of Low- and High-Fat Beefburgers

ABSTRACT: The effect of post-cooking holding-time on sensory assessment of low (89 g/kg) and high (218 g/kg) fat beefburgers was assessed. Burgers were served to panelists approximately 3 or 18 min after cooking. Fat content influenced fattiness, moistness/juiciness and overall appearance (P < 0.05), overall acceptability and overall texture (P< 0.01) and tenderness and crumbliness (p<0.001). Burgers with the higher fat content had higher scores. Holding-time influenced sensory overall appearance only with lower scores at extended holding times (P < 0.01). Treatment differences were small, mostly less than one sensory scale unit. Higher lightness and yellowness values were found for burgers with higher fat contents.

长江重要堤防安全监测工程中,对主要穿堤建筑物、重要堤段都布置了安全监测设施.两年多来的监测过程中,获得了大量的监测资料和信息,为评价防渗墙的渗控效果及穿堤建筑物的运行状况提供了科学依据.防渗墙是堤防加固和防渗处理的主要工程措施之一,通过监测资料分析,防渗墙的实施有效地改善了堤身、堤基的渗流状态,不同结构形式的防渗墙所起的截渗效果是不一样的.穿堤建筑物内部监测由渗压计、测缝计、位错计和界面土压力计组成,为穿堤建筑物安全运行状况和施工质量评价提供了科学的依据.堤防安全监测新技术的开发与应用研究拓展了传统的安全监测领域,先进的安全监测技术在堤防工程建设中将得到广泛应用.     

垦东地区上第三系馆陶组上段成藏规律研究

通过对山东垦东地区构造特征，地层特征和储层特征的研究，从油气运聚，储盖组合，油藏类型及分布和油气控制因素等方面对馆陶组上段成藏规律进行了综合分析，研究表明，研究区的储层主要为曲流河沉积砂体，原油来源于周边的4个生油凹陷，通过不整合曲，储集层以及断层运移到垦东地区后聚集成藏。

不良的生活方式和个人行为对健康是一种“自我制造的危害”。吸烟有害世人皆知,然而,近年来吸烟大军更表现为年青化、女性化的特点,青年大学生们吸烟也较普遍,烟草危害在吸烟者身上表现也很明显,已给国家造成极大的疾病负担;青年大学生吸烟还有漫延之势,必须积极开设健康教育,传授保健知识,让他们自己起来同不良的生活习惯作斗争,同时,还必须制定有效的行政干预措施,才能把吸烟带来的毒害控制在最小范围。     

真丝绸产品的清洁生产与生态设计

通过对真丝绸整个产品生命过程的分析，对其进行了生命周期评价，说明了丝绸与其产地环境之间的联系和影响，尝试寻求两者之间的和谐关系，提出了清洁生产工艺的规划和各种行之有效的对策和措施，尝试了对环境友好的丝绸印染工艺的生态设计。     

A Closer Examination of the Structured Written Disclosure Procedure.

The current study examined psychological and physical health outcomes of the written disclosure paradigm and the hypothesis that the principles of therapeutic exposure account for the beneficial effects of the paradigm. Participants were randomly assigned to either a written disclosure condition or a control condition. Reactivity to the writing sessions was examined using both subjective and physiological measures. Measures of psychological and physical health were completed before and 1 month after the sessions. Participants assigned to the disclosure condition reported fewer psychological and physical symptoms at follow-up compared with control participants, though reductions were clinically significant for only 1 outcome measure. Physiological activation to the 1st disclosure session was associated with reduced psychological symptoms at follow-up for disclosure participants. Subjective reports of emotional responding corresponded with physiological reactivity. Implications of these findings are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
