The response ofDendroctonus frontalis to an attractant mixture (frontalin,trans-verbenol, and loblolly pine turpentine) was measured in the laboratory over a four-year period. Beetle response was highest in late winter and early spring, and lowest in midsummer and early fall. Males consistently responded higher than females. Female beetles displayed significantly higher responses in early morning and late afternoon than in the middle of the day. Analysis of beetle pronotal width and fat content revealed a high degree of correlation between these two parameters in female beetles, but there was no correlation of response with either fat content or pronotal width for either sex. There was no evident relationship between mean monthly beetle response and total amounts of frontalin andtrans-veibenol found in hindgut extracts. Daily temperature in months both during which beetles were bioassayed and immediately prior to bioassay was highly correlated to response to the attractant.Texas Agricultural Experiment Station Paper Number 16652. Winter’s advent invokes physiological adjustments that permit temperate ectotherms to cope with stresses such as food shortage, water deprivation, hypoxia, and hypothermia. We used liquid chromatography (LC) in combination with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) quantitative isobaric (iTRAQ™) peptide mapping to assess variation in the abundance of hepatic proteins in summer- and winter-acclimatized wood frogs (Rana sylvatica), a northerly-distributed species that tolerates extreme dehydration and tissue freezing during hibernation. Thirty-three unique proteins exhibited strong seasonal lability. Livers of winter frogs had relatively high levels of proteins involved in cytoprotection, including heat-shock proteins and an antioxidant, and a reduced abundance of proteins involved in cell proliferation, protein synthesis, and mitochondrial function. They also exhibited altered levels of certain metabolic enzymes that participate in the biochemical reorganization associated with aphagia and reliance on energy reserves, as well as the freezing mobilization and post-thaw recovery of glucose, an important cryoprotective solute in freezing adaptation.  相似文献

Recruitment of European eels (Anguilla anguilla) has declined to the extent that they have been added to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Therefore, it is critical to ensure that eels complete their outward river migration in order to contribute to the available spawning stock. We conducted a 4‐year (2007–2011) telemetry study to understand the migratory behaviour and potential impact of environmental factors on the eel during this critical life stage. Out of 399 female eels tagged with acoustic transmitters, only 28% demonstrated clear downstream migratory behaviour. Fifty‐five percent were detected exhibiting no downstream migration behaviour and 17% were not detected at any monitoring station. Movement patterns of downstream‐migrating (silver) eels were characterized by nocturnal activity and seasonal migration, with distinct peaks in autumn and spring. Migration was often discontinuous and exhibited phases of active locomotion and expanded stopovers. The most important determinants of movement activity were water temperature, cumulative precipitation and moonlight, although the significance varied by season and location in the river basin. Our results evidence a discontinuous, stepwise migration over an extended period. Furthermore, our findings indicate that migration success depends on holding duration prior to tagging and environmental predictors with varying importance depending on the season, as well as the locations of capture, tagging and release. In this study, a concept of using thermosyphon heat pipe to extract heat from water in a storage tank to generate cooling water was proposed. Heat pipe condenser was attached with an aluminum plate and acted as a thermal radiator while its evaporator was dipped in the water storage tank. Cooling water in the tank could be produced during the nighttime and used to serve the cooling load in a room during the daytime. A heat transfer model to calculate the water temperature and the room temperature during both the nighttime and daytime was developed. The input data were ambient temperature, dew point temperature, area of the radiator, volume of cooling water and room cooling load. The experiment was setup to verify the heat transfer model. A 9.0 m2 tested room with six cooling coils, each of 0.87 m2 was installed at the ceiling, was constructed along with the 1.0 m3 water storage tank. A 500–2000 W adjustable heater was taken as an artificial load inside the room. A 6.36 m2 radiator is installed on a 45° tilting roof of the tested room. The simulated results agreed very well with those of the experimental data. With the developed model, a simulation to find the sizing of the radiator area and the volume of cooling water for cooling water production during winter of Chiang Mai, Thailand was carried out. The cooling water was used for cooling during summer in an air‐conditioned room with different cooling loads. The parameters in terms of room temperature, radiator area, volume of cooling water, cooling load and UA of cooling coil were considered to carry out the percent of cooling load reduction. 我国多年冻土和冬季冻土面积占国土面积的75%,其中冻结深度大于0.5m的地区约占全国总面积的一半。北方季节冻土区大多干旱缺水,修建跨流域调水工程是必然选择。我国已建和在建的跨流域调水工程绝大多数采用明渠输水方式,输水渠道是跨流域调水工程的重要组成部分,合理选择渠道衬砌型式,确保输水明渠边坡稳定,既是工程建设期决定投资的重要因素,更是制约工程建成后运行安全、工程维修养护费用的关键因素。首次将渠基划分为主冻胀区和副冻胀区,从季节冻土区明渠衬砌的工程实践方面探讨了构建季节冻土区柔性护坡的衬砌体系。  相似文献

针对季节性河流流量具有周期性变化的特点,采用季节性污水排放计划(SDP)的季节划分方法,提出季节性河流水环境容量计算方法。以渭河干流关中段为例,将一年划分为旱雨两季,利用一维水质模型计算8个季节划分方案和1个对照方案在50%、75%和90%保证率下的水环境容量。研究结果表明:在相同保证率下,分季节计算的渭河干流关中段COD和NH3-N环境容量分别是传统环境容量计算方法的1.17~1.59倍和1.25~1.79倍,表明分季节计算的河流水环境容量明显大于以年为单位计算的河流水环境容量。  相似文献

受全球气候变化影响和人类活动的加剧,干旱灾害发生频次增加且强度增大,严重威胁着我国的粮食安全和水安全。准确及时的旱情预报,对于制定科学有效的干旱应对策略、减少灾害造成的损失具有重大意义。从基于数理统计模型的预报技术和基于物理机制模型的预报技术两方面入手,梳理回顾了国内外研究进展,揭示了当前预报技术所存在的问题,并提出针对性的解决方案。未来研究应注重提高干旱监测数据的质量、突破核心关键技术、构建全国旱情预报业务化系统,为抗旱减灾事业提供强有力的科技支撑。  相似文献

本文采用高通测序方法对大凌河流域五刺金鱼藻、格菱、狐尾藻、水蓼及芦苇5种水生植物不同季节的微生物群落进行试验分析,分析表明:藻类密度在沉水植物表层要高于浮叶植物表层,微生物群落在浮叶植物根部的结构与其表面存在明显差异。各水生植物的优势生物群落依次为变形菌、梭菌、柔膜菌、鞭脂杆菌、杆菌、疣微菌门,且各微生物群落在季节丰度上存在明显差异性。由此可见,水环境对生物群落的影响要高于植物类型。研究成果可为大凌河流域生态修复工程提供重要理论依据。  相似文献
