现代产品设计的复杂性要求设计过程管理向高层转移,并能支持多领域并行设计,针对这种需求,文中提出基于问题解决模型的设计过程管理的概念与方法,将设计过程视为问题定义、规划与求解的过程,并利用过程描述语言捕获领域知识,通过设计过程文法,实现设计问题的求解与映射,该方法抓住设计过程的本质,可为设计者提供高层次跨领域的设计过程管理支持为设计周期的缩短提供了可能。

介绍了协同商业ＣＡＤ系统中的协同设计模型,基于ＳＱＬＳｅｒｖｅｒ解决了协同设计模型设计中的并发控制,一致性保证和多用户界面等问题。由于可实现数据共享、并行设计,从而可缩短设计周期;而 计算机进行协调又可减少协 时间并保证正确性。

Evolutionary Computation in Structural Design

The paper provides the results of preliminary research on the application of evolutionary computation to integrated structural design in which a complex design support tool automatically conducts both conceptual and detailed design. In the paper, a brief overview of the state of the art in evolutionary computation and its applications to structural design is provided. Next, Inventor 2000 is described, a unique research and structural design tool developed by the authors at George Mason University that combines an evolutionary computation component with a system for wind forces analysis, and a system for the analysis, design and optimisation of steel structures. The paper also presents the results of four structural design experiments conducted with Inventor 2000. The objective of experiments was to investigate various forms of evolutionary computation as applied to structure design. Finally, the paper provides the initial research conclusions and recommendations for further research.     

The Organisation in Ethnography –A Discussion of Ethnographic Fieldwork Programs in CSCW

Ethnography is now one of the key approaches usedwithin the CSCW community to specify the role ofcomputer based systems in work practice. Yet whatethnography involves as a program of inquiries is onlydiscussed in a piecemeal way in the literature. Thispaper attempts to make up for that absence bydescribing one fieldwork program (or programme)developed over a number of projects in whichethnography has been allied with computer systems andwork practice design. The discussions will be ofinterest to both expert practitioners of ethnographyand novices.     

Oscillatory Metastability in Optical Network Synchronizer Circuits

Synchronization of signal packets is required in networks in order to route the packets. Due to changes in the interarrival times of the packets the inputs to the routing circuits may exhibit oscillatory metastability. Oscillatory metastability can be eliminated in optical circuits by the addition of logic signal stretch. This can be done because the propagation time of optics can be precisely controlled. An algorithm for inserting logic signal stretch to eliminate oscillatory metastability is presented herein.
