The piperazine pyrophosphate (PPAP) combined with aluminum diethylphosphinate (AlPi) with a certain mass fraction and then incorporated into thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) composites composed of oil extended styrene–ethylene–butadiene–styrene block copolymer and polypropylene. The fire retardancy, thermal behavior, mechanical performance, and flame retardant mechanism of TPE materials were investigated in detail. The results demonstrated that 1.6 mm TPE composites reached UL-94 V-0 grade during vertical burning tests and the limiting oxygen index value was 28.5% when 25 wt % PPAP/AlPi with the mass ratio of 4:1 was incorporated. The introduction of PPAP/AlPi improved the residual mass and thermal stability, and stimulated to produce the char layer with high quality. The formed char layer exerted shielding effect and AlPi could inhibit the flame in gas phase. Consequently, the PPAP/AlPi system evoked fire retardant effects in condensed and gas phase simultaneously, and the fire resistance of the TPE composites was enhanced. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Recycled low density polyethylene (R‐LDPE) has been reactively compatibilized with butadiene rubber (BR) by using small additions of reactive polyethylene copolymers and reactive BRs to produce thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). TPEs were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), rheology measurements, wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) and mechanical testing. WAXS results show that the presence of BR and reactive modifiers does not completely prevent the crystallization of R‐LDPE during the TPE formation. Depression of the melting point has been found in all cases. Also in all cases, compatibility is provided by formation of interfacial layers. The best mechanical characteristics are obtained for R‐LDPE + BR blends compatibilized with poly(ethylene‐co‐acrylic acid) (PE‐co‐AA) and polybutadiene terminated with isocyanate groups (PB‐NCO) for PB‐NCO = 7.5 wt% per PB and COOH/NCO ratio = 1/1. The stress at break and elongation at break are respectively improved by 31 % and 63 %. The PB‐NCO modifier participates in co‐vulcanization with BR in the rubber phase and reacts at the interface with the PE‐co‐AA dissolved in the polyolefin phase. As a result, the amorphous phase of R‐LDPE is dissolved by the rubber phase and a morphology with dual phase continuity is formed, assuring an improvement of mechanical properties of TPEs. 通过TEM和DSC等手段分析了聚氨酯/聚(甲基丙烯酸甲酯-苯乙烯)-半互穿网络(IPN)热塑性弹性体PU/P(MMA-co-St)的微观结构和玻璃化转变温度。结果表明中PU仍为分散相或连续性较小的相,而P(MMA-co-St)则为连续相或较大连续相,网络的互穿主要发生在PU的硬段区。对材料物理机械性能的测试表明当PU/PMS组分比为60/40、单体比MMA/St为50/50左右时,制得的半IPN的力学性能最佳。 相似文献

Four kinds of compatibilizers—chlorinated polyethylene (normal CPE), highly chlorinated CPE, maleic anhydride grafted with polypropylene (MP), and chlorinated polypropylene (CPP)—were used to study the influence of compatibilizing agents on the properties of nitrile-butadiene rubber and polypropylene (NBR/PP) blends, a kind of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The results show that the most proper amount of normal CPE, highly chlorinated CPE, MP, and CPP are 9, 8, 7, and 6 wt%, respectively, in the NBR/PP blends. The CPP was the best compatibilizer for NBR/PP blends among the four. NBR/PP blends obtained excellent properties of thermoplastic materials and can be molded with the general processing technologies for thermoplastics, such as injection, extrusion, blow molding, and the like. The mechanical properties are similar to that of Geolast, produced by Monsanto Company, and exceed the Chinese national criterion (GB7527-87). The tensile strength was 13.8 MPa; the elongation at break was 290%; and the compression set was 32%. After the blends were immersed in oil for 70 h, the tensile strength was 10.4 MPa, and the degree of oil absorption was 12%.
