An enhanced,acoustic emission-based,single-fiber-composite test

In the single-fiber-composite (SFC) test, a fiber imbedded in a matrix is loaded in tension, resulting in a fragmentation of the fiber. In the conventional version of this test, the final fiber fragmentation length distribution is used with a micro-mechanical model to determine the average fiber/matrix interfacial shear stress. In the enhanced version of this test, one also determines the applied stress at each fiber fracture, and from this, one can evaluate the strength of the fiber at short gage lengths. In our measurement system, we utilize an acoustic emission (AE) technique to detect the fiber fractures and to locate the fiber breaks and so determine both the fiber failure stresses as well as the fiber fragmentation lengths while the test is in progress. Critical to the success of this test is a broadband AE system that utilizes point-like AE sensors, procedures for evaluatingin situ, the wavespeed of the first wave arrival and signal processing techniques for determining the arrival time of this signal as precisely as possible for a broad range of wave shapes. Here we describe the application of such an enhanced SFC test procedure to investigate the failure of a Nicalon fiber in an epoxy matrix.     

Design of the broadband microstrip array antenna for blast furnace surface monitoring

Aiming at the requirements of high-resolution imaging and high integration of the blast furnace radar,this paper presents a method for designing a wideband microstrip array antenna,which broadens the antenna bandwidth through the design of parasitic patches and air layers.By combining multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging principles,a linear MIMO array is designed,and a near-field simulation imaging experiment is performed on the simulated feed line through the wave number domain imaging algorithm.Simulation results show that the gain of the main lobe of the antenna can reach 14.05 dBi,the reflection coefficient is less than -10 dB,the absolute bandwidth is 5.25 GHz,the operating frequency is 20.67~25.92 GHz,and the range resolution is increased to 3 cm compared with the existing blast furnace radar.The average error of the azimuth direction of the simulated material line imaging is 0.008 m,and the range direction is 0.0011 m.Compared with the traditional microstrip array antenna,this antenna effectively widens the bandwidth,and the range resolution is higher than that of the traditional blast furnace radar.It can accurately obtain the shape information on the simulated material line,and has an engineering application value for blast furnace surface monitoring.

Response of rainfed bread and durum wheat to source,level and timing of nitrogen fertilizer on two Ethiopian Vertisols: II. N uptake,recovery and efficiency

In trials conducted at 2 highland Vertisol sites in Ethiopia in 1990 and 1991, 2 locally popular wheat cultivars, 1 spring bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and 1 durum wheat (T. durum Desf.), were supplied with nitrogen (N) fertilizer at 0, 60 and 120 kg N ha^–1 in the form of large granular urea (LGU), standard urea prills or ammonium sulfate. N was applied all at sowing, all at mid-tillering or split-applied between these two stages (1/3:2/3). While durum wheat exhibited the highest N concentration in grain and straw, bread wheat, because of its higher productivity, resulted in a greater grain and total N uptake. In general, split application of N and use of LGU as N source enhanced grain and total N uptake, apparent N recovery and agronomic efficiency of N, particularly under severe water-logging stress. Where significant, the interactions among the experimental factors substantiated the superior responsiveness of the bread wheat cultivar to fertilizer N, and the beneficial effects of split N application and LGU as an N source. Split application of N tended to nullify the positive effects of LGU, presumably by approximating the delayed release of N achieved with LGU. Considering the potential benefits to Ethiopian peasant farmers and consumers, split application of N should be advocated, particularly on water-logged Vertisols; LGU could be an advantageous N source assuming a cost comparable to the conventional N source urea.

gHRV: Heart rate variability analysis made easy

In this paper, the gHRV software tool is presented. It is a simple, free and portable tool developed in python for analysing heart rate variability. It includes a graphical user interface and it can import files in multiple formats, analyse time intervals in the signal, test statistical significance and export the results.     

宽带功率放大器PGSC建模方法及预失真研究

针对宽带功率放大器的强记忆效应特性,提出一种功放建模和数字预失真方法——PGSC模型。利用广义记忆多项式(GMP)、特定交叉项(SCT)及记忆时刻信号交叉项(CIMT)3个基函数来构造功放行为模型及数字预失真器,并搭建实际测试平台对模型的精度及线性化效果进行验证。测试结果表明,与PMEC方法相比,PGSC方法建模时的归一化均方误差减少了2.1 dB,数字预失真时输出信号的三阶邻信道功率比降低了4.94/2.03 dB;与GMP方法相比,PGSC方法仅利用73%的系数即可得到更高的模型精度和更好的线性化效果。
