In this paper, it is theoretically and experimentally analyzed that the non-repetitive run-out (NRRO) of a ball bearing is caused by geometrical errors of the inner and outer races and the balls, and the number of balls.
The results are summarized as follows:
- (1) As for the geometrical errors of the inner and outer races, it is possible to reduce the NRRO to be less than 1 nm by choosing 12 or 18 number of balls, even if the inner and outer races have a harmonic undulation of less than the 11th order.
- (2) The NRRO of a ball bearing with 12 balls is very small even if the geometrical errors of ball bearing parts are large. It was confirmed that 12 was an optimal number of balls for ball bearings used for HDD spindle motors.

Drilling torque was estimated using the spindle motor current and controlled through feedrate manipulation for the reduction of drill wear. A PID controller was used to control the cutting torque measured indirectly from the spindle motor current. The effect of cutting torque control on drill flank wear was also investigated. Experimental results showed that the drilling torque was well-regulated at a given reference level and the risk of drill failure and drill flank wear were reduced remarkably through cutting torque control. Moreover, the suggested cutting torque control system does not disturb the cutting process and is practical in an industrial environment.Nomenclature

Permanent magnet ac (PMAC) motors have existed in various configurations for many years. The advent of rare-earth magnets and their associated highly elevated levels of magnetic flux makes the permanent magnet motor attractive for many high performance applications from computer disk drives to all electric racing cars. The use of batteries as a prime storage element carries a cost penalty in terms of the unladen weight of the vehicle. Minimizing this cost function requires the minimum electric motor size and weight to be specified, while still retaining acceptable levels of output torque. This tradeoff can be achieved by applying a technique known as flux weakening which will be investigated in this paper. The technique allows the speed range of a PMAC motor to be greatly increased, giving a constant power range of more than 4:1. A dynamic model reference controller is presented which has advantages in ease of implementation, and is particularly suited to dynamic low inertia applications such as clutchless gear changing in high performance electric vehicles. The benefits of this approach are to maximize the torque speed envelope of the motor, particularly advantageous when considering low inertia operation. This paper describes a surface motor-driven XY planar motion stage equipped with a newly developed XYθZ surface encoder for sub-micron positioning. The surface motor consists of four linear motors placed on the same surface, two pairs in the XY-axes. The magnetic array and the stator winding of the linear motor are mounted on the platen (the moving element) and the stage base, respectively. The platen can be moved in the X-direction by the X-linear motors, and in the Y-direction by the Y-linear motors. It can also be rotated about the Z-axis if the X- or Y-linear motors generate a moment about the Z-axis. The surface encoder consists of two two-dimensional angle sensors and an angle grid with two-dimensional sinusoidal waves on its surface. The angle grid is mounted on the platen of the stage which is levitated by air-bearings. The angle sensors and the air-bearing pads are fixed on the stage base so that the motion of the platen is not affected by the electronic cables and air hoses. The XY-positions and θZ rotation of the platen can be obtained from the angle sensor outputs with resolutions of approximately 20 nm and 0.2′′, respectively. The surface encoder is placed inside the stage so that the stage system is very compact in size. Experimental results indicate that precision positioning can be carried out independently in X, Y and θZ with resolutions of 200 nm and 1′′, respectively. 相似文献

The wear interaction between piston ring and piston groove in a radial piston hydraulic motor was studied in regard to mass loss and changes in form and surface roughness. A specially developed test rig that simulates the tilting movements of pistons at the end of strokes was used in the test. The results show that wear on the piston ring groove can be up to 10 times greater than the wear on the piston ring. For both interacting surfaces, the dominant wear mechanism was mild wear. The results from a factorial design show that the form of the piston groove significantly influences the amount of wear. 相似文献
