PurposeThis study investigated the change in the fatality and severe injury risks in rear impacts with vehicle model years (MY) grouped prior to, during the phase-in and after the revision to FMVSS 301.MethodsFARS and NASS-CDS data were used to determine the injury risks of non-ejected occupants in light vehicles involving non-rollover, rear impacts. The data were analyzed by MY groups: 1996–2001, 2002–2007 and 2008+ to represent the years prior to, during the phase-in and post-revision phase-in of FMVSS 301. The 1996–2013 FARS data were analyzed for rear crashes defined by the initial crash direction (IMPACT1) and direction with most damage (IMPACT2) to the rear. Fatality risk was determined by the number of fatally injured occupants per all occupants with known injury status.The 1994–2013 NASS-CDS was analyzed for rear crashes defined by the damage area variable. The risk of severe injury (MAIS 4+F) was determined as the number of occupants with MAIS 4+F injury per all occupants with known injury status. The distribution of rear crashes was determined by impact location and crash severity. NASS-CDS electronic cases with 2008+ MY vehicles were analyzed to evaluate the vehicle and occupant performance.ResultsThe fatality risk was 20.6% in the 1996–2001, 17.3% in the 2002–2007 and 15.0% in the 2008+ MY vehicles using FARS with the initial crash direction variable (IMPACT1) to the rear. There was a 27.1% reduction in risk with post-FMVSS 301 vehicles 2008+ MY. The risk was 19.0%, 15.4% and 12.8% with the most damage variable (IMPACT2) to the rear. There was 32.8% reduction in risk with 2008+ MY vehicles.The NASS-CDS analysis showed that the risk of severe injury (MAIS 4+F) was 0.27 ± 0.05% for 1996–2001, 0.30 ± 0.13% for 2002–2007 and 0.08 ± 0.04% for 2008+ MY year vehicles. There was a 70.2% reduction in the risk for severe injury with 2008+ MY vehicles.The NASS-CDS case review of MAIS 4+F injury in rear impacts of 2008+ MY vehicles that comply with the revised FMVSS 301 indicated that the crashes were very severe and generally involved significant 2nd row intrusion.ConclusionsThe revision to FMVSS 301 has effectively reduced the risks for fatal and severe injury in vehicles compliant with the revision (2008+ MY). The reduction was 27.1–32.8% in fatality risk using FARS data and 70.2% in severe injury risk using the NASS-CDS when compared to vehicles prior to the phase-in of the revised FMVSS 301 (1996–2001 MY vehicles). It is not possible to parse the effects of other design changes in seats and restraint systems that also increased safety over the study years.  相似文献

This paper proposes a control strategy for an automotive selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system using a NOx sensor in a feedback loop. As is representative of real world applications, the employed NOx sensor is cross-sensitive to NH3, which induces several complexities. In particular the ambiguity of the measurements could be detrimental to the closed loop response, as it generates multiple equilibrium points (artefacts), besides the point of practical interest. A study of the closed-loop dynamics is performed in the vicinity of each point, which shows that the closed loop system naturally converges to the point of interest not to the artefacts. Experimental results obtained after a detailed calibration method illustrate the relevance and performance of the proposed approach.  相似文献

The problem studied in this article is the control of a DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) as used in aftertreatment systems of diesel vehicles. This system is inherently a distributed parameter system due to its elongated geometry where a gas stream is in contact with a spatially distributed catalyst. A first contribution is a model for the DOC system. It is obtained by successive simplifications justified either experimentally (from observations, estimates of orders of magnitude) or by an analysis of governing equations (through asymptotic developments and changes of variables). This model can reproduce the complex temperature response of DOC output to changes in input variables. In particular, the effects of gas velocity variations, inlet temperature and inlet hydrocarbons are well represented. A second contribution is a combination of algorithms (feedback, feedforward, and synchronization) designed to control the thermal phenomena in the DOC. Both contributions have been tested and validated experimentally. In conclusion, the outcomes are evaluated: using the approach presented in this article, it is possible to control, in conditions representative of vehicle driving conditions, the outlet temperature of the DOC within ±15 °C.  相似文献

Abstract

High Mn twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) steel is a new type of structural steel, characterised by both high strength and superior formability. TWIP steel offers an extraordinary opportunity to adjust the mechanical properties of steel by modifying the strain hardening. The use of TWIP steel may therefore lead to a considerable lightweighting of steel components, a reduction of material use and an improved press forming behaviour. These key advantages will help implement current automotive vehicle design trends which emphasise a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and lowering of fuel consumption. In addition, high strength TWIP steel will effectively contribute to weight containment in vehicles equipped with hybrid and electric motors, as these are considerably heavier than conventional motors. The present review addresses all aspects of the physical metallurgy of the high strength TWIP steel with a special emphasis on the properties and key advantages of TWIP sheet steel products relevant to automotive applications.  相似文献

In automotive paint shops, changes of colors between consecutive production orders cause costs for cleaning the painting robots. It is a significant task to re-sequence orders and group orders with identical color as a color batch to minimize the color changeover costs. In this paper, a Color-batching Resequencing Problem (CRP) with mix bank buffer systems is considered. We propose a Color-Histogram (CH) model to describe the CRP as a Markov decision process and a Deep Q-Network (DQN) algorithm to solve the CRP integrated with the virtual car resequencing technique. The CH model significantly reduces the number of possible actions of the DQN agent, so that the DQN algorithm can be applied to the CRP at a practical scale. A DQN agent is trained in a deep reinforcement learning environment to minimize the costs of color changeovers for the CRP. Two experiments with different assumptions on the order attribute distributions and cost metrics were conducted and evaluated. Experimental results show that the proposed approach outperformed conventional algorithms under both conditions. The proposed agent can run in real time on a regular personal computer with a GPU. Hence, the proposed approach can be readily applied in the production control of automotive paint shops to resolve order-resequencing problems.  相似文献

In a context where the mass, the cost and the mechanical strength of materials must be jointly optimized, it is necessary to have experimental data quickly available and sufficiently robust to make efficient conception choices. For thermomechanical fatigue, standard tests usually allow comparing material for the same temperature and strain ranges although differences in thermal properties such as conductivity or thermal expansion could make significant deviations when the same thermal flux is applied particularly for structure with forced heat flux operating regimes. A new protocol is then proposed in order to compare the specific resistances of metallic materials against thermomechanical fatigue. It can easily rank materials according to their lifetime under thermomechanical loadings where strain range and temperature amplitude are determined by the heat flux applied on an industrial part. The method is based on a complete numerical analysis to determine experimental loading conditions as a temporal evolution of temperature and mechanical strain representative of thermomechanical loading observed in TMF critical areas for the part. TMF tests on hollow specimens are carried out to rank the materials: temperature and strain amplitude are different for each alloys whereas heat flux is identical. A materials ranking list based on TMF resistance is then determined according to their lifetimes under “heat-flux-controlled” tests. The method is tested for exhaust parts and demonstrates the superiority of some cast irons over others, whereas the intrinsic isotherm mechanical properties suggested an alternative classification. The obtained ranking is confirmed by experimental tests on industrial structures.  相似文献

To further understand the needs of the growing population of elderly drivers and create solutions for safe mobility it is important to understand the driving scenarios and aspects in day to day traffic that may be of challenge for this group. More so, individual differences in how drivers perceive their own driving ability may have an effect on how individuals limit their mobility and/or increase their exposure to risk situations, with a potential negative effect on safety.  相似文献
