For the first time, focused ion beam milling, secondary electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were used
to examine in depth morphological defects during epitaxial growth of CdTe and CdSeTe on Si. Contrary to the literature regarding
the formation of morphological defects at the epi/substrate interface, the present defects appear to originate from either
the CdTe/CdSeTe interface or 3–4 μm above the CdTe/Si interface where the growth was interrupted and the substrate temperature

Microcrystalline silicon solar cells deposited by VHF-PECVD with or without HWCVD grown p/i interface buffer layer were investigated. We studied long-term stability under storage in ambient atmosphere and performed light soaking experiments. Cells with i-layers covering a wide range of crystalline volume fractions were studied. All cells were stable or degraded slightly after storage for 2 years in air, regardless of crystalline volume fraction or presence of p/i buffer interface. Upon light soaking all cells show efficiency degradation to more or less extent depending on crystal volume fraction of the i-layer and the presence of the buffer layer: the solar cell with high crystal volume fraction are nearly stable, cells with high amorphous volume fraction degrade by up to 20%. The solar cell with HWCVD buffer layer shows better stability in the high efficiency range of relative efficiency degradation typically less than 10% after 1000 h AM 1.5 light soaking. The efficiency degradation is mainly caused by Voc and FF deterioration while Jsc is almost stable. 相似文献

We studied the growth of the surface oxide layer on four different CdTe and CdZnTe X-ray and gamma-ray detector-grade samples using spectroscopic ellipsometry. We observed gradual oxidization of CdTe and CdZnTe after chemical etching in bromine solutions. From X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements, we found that the oxide consists only of oxygen bound to tellurium. We applied a refined theoretical model of the surface layer to evaluate the spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements. In this way we studied the dynamics and growth rate of the oxide layer within a month after chemical etching of the samples. We observed two phases in the evolution of the oxide layer on all studied samples. A rapid growth was visible within five days after the chemical treatment followed by semi-saturation and a decrease in the growth rate after the first week. After one month all the samples showed an oxide layer about 3 nm thick. The oxide thickness was correlated with leakage current degradation with time after surface preparation. 相似文献
