In this paper we consider a technique for pattern classification based upon the development of prototypes which capture the distinguishing features (“disjunctive prototypes”) of each pattern class and, via cross-correlation with incoming test images, enable efficient pattern classification. We evaluate such a classification procedure with prototypes based on the images per se (direct code), Gabor scheme (multiple fixed filter representation) and an edge (scale space-based) coding scheme. Our analyses, and comparisons with human pattern classification performance, indicate that the edge-only disjunctive prototypes provide the most discriminating classification performance and are the more representative of human behaviour. 相似文献

Effectiveness of a cross flow microfiltration (MF) process for removal of a cocktail of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis species from commercial unpasteurized liquid egg white (LEW) from a local egg breaking plant, while maintaining its functional properties was evaluated. To facilitate MF, LEW was wedge screened, homogenized and then diluted (1:2 w/w) with distilled water containing 0.5% sodium chloride. Diluted unpasteurized LEW was inoculated with five strains of S. Enteritidis (ATCC 4931, ATCC BAA-708, ATCC 49215, ATCC 49218, and ATCC BAA-1045) to a level of approximately 107 CFU/mL of LEW and microfiltered using a ceramic membrane. Process parameters influencing egg white functional properties and pathogen removal efficiency were evaluated. Average permeates flux increased by almost 126% when pH of LEW was adjusted from pH 8 to pH 7 at 25 °C. Microbial removal efficiency was at least, on average, 6.8 Log10 CFU/mL (limit of detection ≤ 0.5 Log10 CFU/mL). Corn starch was chemically modified using sodium chloroacetate to yield carboxymethyl starch (CMS). The aqueous solutions of CMS at 15 and 50% (w/w) concentration were then irradiated by electron beam (EB) at various dosages (1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, and 50 kGy), resulting in a cross‐linked carboxymethyl starch (CCMS). The maximum gel fraction, i.e. the highest degree of cross‐linking, was achieved with a 50% (w/w) aqueous CMS solution irradiated at 2 kGy EB dosage. Metal removal efficiency of the CCMS was then evaluated for the extraction of copper (Cu) and cadmium (Cd) ions from aqueous solutions. Our results showed that the metal adsorption is pH dependent and the adsorption increases with increase of the pH of the metal solution from acidic towards neutral. The adsorption efficiency also showed the maximum value at the highest gel content, demonstrating the enhancement of adsorption by the physical entrapment of the ions in the CCMS network in addition to the primary chemical adsorption. 相似文献
