Efficient prolog programming

This paper presents some basic programming strategies for Prolog programmers. The strategies are based on knowledge about the operational behaviour of the Warren Abstract Machine (WAM). The aim is to provide simple principles for making programs both faster and less space-consuming. The programming hints given are mostly local, i.e. only a single clause or procedure need be considered at a time.     

An extended minimax disparity to determine the OWA operator weights

This paper contributes to extend the minimax disparity to determine the ordered weighted averaging (OWA) model based on linear programming. It introduces the minimax disparity approach between any distinct pairs of the weights and uses the duality of linear programming to prove the feasibility of the extended OWA operator weights model. The paper finishes with an open problem.     

Integration of knowledge-based systems with data processing

Transaction Oriented Prolog-Online Environment is a multi-user, mainframe implementation of the logic programming language Prolog, specially designed and developed for the data processing environment. This article describes the background, functionality, implementation and use of TOP-ONE, stressing that applications of knowledge-based systems technology to data processing environments will achieve full success only when existing systems and existing conventional data are incorporated within the applications.

为更好地模拟泡沫沥青混合料在车辆动载作用下的动态性能，便于与国外相关研究进行比较，采用劈裂法对混合料动态性能进行研究。通过试验研究骨料类型、级配、水泥用量等对泡沫沥青混合料动态回弹模量的影响，总结了泡沫沥青混合料动静模量的关系。     

地质超前预报和动态施工在隧洞施工中的应用

通过在直峰架洞施工过程中，地质超首预报与隧洞动态施工的结合，将国际岩体质量分级到生产实践中，针对不同级别的岩级，应用相应的施工方案，以达到为隧洞篱工总结经验的目的。     

Efficient solution of population balance equations with discontinuities by finite elements

Two refinements of Galerkin's method on finite elements were evaluated for the solution of population balance equations for precipitation systems. The traditional drawbacks of this approach have been the time required for computation of the two-dimensional integrals arising from the aggregation integrals and the difficulty in handling discontinuities that often arise in simulations of seeded reactors. The careful arrangement of invariant integrals for separable aggregation models allows for a thousandfold reduction in the computational costs. Discontinuities that may be present due to the hyperbolic nature of the system may be specifically tracked by the method of characteristics. These discontinuities will arise only from the initial distribution or nucleation and are readily identified. A combination of these techniques can be used that is intermediate in computational cost while still allowing discontinuous number densities. In a case study of calcium carbonate precipitation, it is found that the accuracy improvement gained by tracking the slope discontinuity may not be significant and that the computation speed may be sufficient for dynamic online optimization.
