By transforming the personal computer into a communication appliance, the Internet has initiated the true home computing revolution. As a result, Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) technologies are increasingly used in domestic settings, and are changing the way people keep in touch with their relatives and friends. This article first looks at how CMC tools are currently used in the home, and points at some of their benefits and limitations. Most of these tools supportexplicit interpersonal communication, by providing a new medium for sustaining conversations. The need for tools supportingimplicit interaction between users, in more natural and effottless ways, is then argued for. The idea of affective awareness is introduced as a general sense of being in touch with one's family and friends. Finally, the KAN-G framework, which enables affective awareness through the exchange of digital photographs, is described. Various components, which make the capture, distribution, observation and annotation of snapshots easy and effortless, are discussed. 相似文献

This paper argues that the current involvement of end users in the design of technological artefacts is too superficial.
It is common to involve people in requirements generation, but rarely in product inception or design. A study is reported
involving five households in central Scotland, who were each visited on three occasions, using a new investigative framework.
Illustrative examples are provided of the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used. Despite the latter, it is demonstrated
that the general public can both generate and critique design ideas and that valuable contributions to understanding people's
relationships with technologies can be expected both from children and from the elderly.

Charging coordination of large‐population autonomous plug‐in electric vehicles (PEVs) in the power grid can be formulated as a class of constrained optimization problems. To overcome the computational complexity, a game‐based method is proposed for the charging problems of the PEV population, which is composed of homogeneous subpopulations, such that individuals update their best charging strategies simultaneously with respect to a common electricity price determined by the total demand. To mitigate the oscillation behavior caused by the greedy behavior for the cheap electricity by individuals, a deviation cost is introduced to penalize against the deviation of the individual strategy from the average value of the homogeneous subpopulation. By adopting a proper deviation cost and following a best strategy update mechanism, the game systems may converge to the socially optimal valley‐fill Nash equilibrium. This article describes a multimodal command language for home robot users, and a robot system which interprets users’ messages
in the language through microphones, visual and tactile sensors, and control buttons. The command language comprises a set
of grammar rules, a lexicon, and nonverbal events detected in hand gestures, readings of tactile sensors attached to the robots,
and buttons on the controllers in the users’ hands. Prototype humanoid systems which immediately execute commands in the language
are also presented, along with preliminary experiments of faceto-face interactions and teleoperations. Subjects unfamiliar
with the language were able to command humanoids and complete their tasks with brief documents at hand, given a short demonstration
beforehand. The command understanding system operating on PCs responded to multimodal commands without significant delay.
