A hybrid Microwave-assisted Chemical Vapor Infiltration (MW-CVI) pilot plant to produce silicon carbide-based Ceramic Matrix Composites was designed, built and setup, as a part of the European project HELM. Being different from the existing lab-scale MW-CVI equipment, this pilot plant was designed with the idea of a further industrial scale-up.In order to enable the infiltration of the large samples of interest in industrial applications, the reactor was designed with the internal microwave cavity acting as an overmoded resonator at the frequencies of interest. The designed pilot plant allowed proper microwave heating of cylindrical samples of diameter doubled with respect to typical lab-scale preforms, with reproducible operating conditions in terms of transmitted/reflected power. First infiltration trials resulted in an average reaction efficiency of 25 % with the desired inside-out silicon carbide infiltration. The main steps of the design and the results of the first infiltration tests are discussed in this paper. 相似文献

Improving product behavioral performance in design process needs an innovative approach to integrate simultaneously most of the trades (safety, reliability, maintainability, etc.). Currently, safety integration is done in the latest phase of design process, to respect safety directives. This late integration causes some contradictions between productivity and safety. These contradictions could be related to technical and organizational problems. This paper proposes an innovative approach that aims to eliminate these contradictions in order to improve product performance in the use situations. This approach is based on 4 steps: systemic safety integration using Working situation model, taking into account the requirements of safety directives and standards; identifying the contradiction resulting from designer's choices and finally resolving these contradictions using adapted methods like TRIZ. The last decade has witnessed a growing interest in what technology can do to sustain communities. Within the Campiello project innovative information technologies have been adopted to support the dynamic exchange of experiences among people living in cities with high levels of tourism, in this way reducing the progressive diminishing of identity suffered by the local communities of these cities. The system developed has been used, for an experimental period, in a neighborhood of Venice, Italy. In the paper, we reflect on the whole Campiello experience, considering all its development phases. These reflections are organized as a set of issues that require attention, respectively, in the design and deployment of community systems, illustrated with examples from Campiello. We believe that due to the relative novelty of community systems, this type of reflection is important to inform the design of future systems such that they better fulfill their objectives and become an integral part of community practices. 相似文献
