The effect of microwave radiation on rice quality was investigated using an industrial continuous microwave oven. Effects of microwave treatment, packaging method and storage time on rice quality during storage were assessed. Water content, free fatty acid content and protein content were reduced but the blue value (BV) of rice and the sensory quality of cooked rice increased as microwave-energy consumption increased. Qualities of both microwave-treated and untreated rice changed during storage, but the changes were less in the treated rice sample. Differences in the protein content, fat content and total sugar content between the microwave-treated and untreated rice were significant at the beginning of storage but not after storage for more than 120 days. Variance analysis showed that rice storage qualities were significantly affected by treatment methods and storage time while packaging methods had no significant effect on any of the qualities. 相似文献

Development and evaluation of optimum size and number of sample units is required for cost-effective management of stored grain beetles. In this study, we evaluated the sampling parameters and accuracy of insect density detection and estimation, developed the optimum size and number of sample units, and conducted a feasibility study of the insect detection and density estimation. The measured insect densities in 92% of random samples were less than the introduced insect densities and 67.4 ± 10.8% of random samples did not contain adults when the introduced insect density was 0.1 A/kg (adult/kg). If the random sampling technique was used and 15% of the stored wheat bulk was sampled, 72% of determined means of insect densities of the sampling sets were lower than the introduced insect densities. Increasing the size of sample units did not improve the accuracy of the estimation of insect densities; however, it did considerably increase the probability of insect detection when insect densities were lower than 1.0 A/kg. We recommend at least 7 kg per sample unit for insect detection (especially when insect densities < 0.1 A/kg) and the optimum number of sample units with 15 kg grain per unit should be >24 for a fixed precision of 0.35 when insect densities < 0.1 A/kg. This might be a challenge for grain storage practice. This study reports the effects of cultivation location, cultivation year, and storage period on 13 ginsenosides and 30 phenolics in Korean fresh ginseng (FG) and its three processed ginsengs (white ginseng, WG; taeguek ginseng, TG; red ginseng, RG). Total ginsenosides content in FG was affected by cultivation year (P = 0.038) and storage period (P = 0.0021), not by cultivation location. In contrast, phenolics content in FG was affected by cultivation locations (P < 0.0001) and cultivation year (P = 0.0083), but not by storage period. Processed ginsengs, especially RG, contained larger amounts of ginsenosides and phenolics than those in FG. Thus, RG could be considered as the best ginseng type for human health benefits. The present study extended our knowledge about the change of ginsenosides and phenolics in ginsengs with respect to cultivation location, cultivation year, and the storage period. 相似文献

The effect of storage conditions (light, temperature, container types) and time on the quality of natural olive oils from different cultivars and Australian regions were studied. The oils’ changing quality was monitored through several physico-chemical methods (free fatty acids, peroxide value, UV-spectrometry (K232, K 270 and ΔK), induction time, total polyphenol content, bitterness, pyropheophytin a and 1,2-diacyl-glycerol content) and sensory analysis over 24 months. Pyropheophytins a and 1,2-diacyl-glycerols criteria showed very good performance as indicators of overall olive oil quality and freshness as well as highlighting any problems during the storage of the product. Pyropheophytin a increment averaged 7 % per year and the 1,2-diacyl-glycerols decreased at an average of 23 % per year at normal storage conditions over time. 相似文献
