Rail defects: an overview

For about 150 years, the steel rail has been at the very heart of the world's railway systems. The rail works in a harsh environment and, as part of the track structure, it has little redundancy; thus, its failure may lead to catastrophic derailment of vehicles, the consequences of which can include death, injury, costs and loss of public confidence. These can have devastating and long‐lasting effects on the industry. Despite the advances being made in railway permanent way engineering, inspection and rail‐making technology, continually increasing service demands have resulted in rail failure continuing to be a substantial economic burden and a threat to the safe operation of virtually every railway in the world. This paper presents an overview of rail defects and their consequences from the earliest days of railways to the present day.

以检查井分析资料和二次加密调整井测试资料为基础，以大庆喇萨杏油田已开展的三次加密调整试验和已完成的三次加密调整方案为依据，通过对喇萨杏油田高含水后期各开发区块可调砂岩厚度、单储系数、综合含水、二次加密调整时间及套损井比例等几个主要指标综合分析的基础上，利用层次分析方法对喇萨杏油田各开发区块三次加密调整的可行性进行优选排队，最终给出喇萨杏油田三次加密调整优先进行的区块，为喇萨杏油田有计划、分步骤地实施三次加密调整提供了可靠依据。

Linkages between spouses' psychological distress and marital conflict in the home.

To elucidate the processes that underlie the established association between psychopathology and marital functioning, researchers have given attention to how symptomatic individuals manage their interpersonal contexts, particularly during the handling of disagreements. In the current study, the authors evaluate the role of marital conflict strategies in relation to wives' and husbands' psychological distress levels. A sample of 100 community-based couples completed assessments of psychological distress and diaries describing marital conflict that occurred at home during a 15-day reporting period. Findings from multilevel modeling of dyadic data revealed associations between both spouses' psychological distress and multiple behavioral and emotional conflict expressions in the home. Psychological symptoms uniquely predicted the occurrence of certain conflict expressions, even when accounting for global negative marital sentiments. The findings encourage subsequent consideration of marital conflict expressions and resolution strategies when studying processes involved in the marriage-psychological adjustment link. HIST: A hierarchical self test methodology for chips,boards, and systems

This article presents the HIST approach, which allows the automated insertion of self test hardware into hierarchically designed circuits and systems to implement the RUNBIST instruction of the IEEE 1149.1 standard. To achieve an optimal and throughout self testable system, the inherent design hierarchy is fully exploited. All chips and boards are provided with appropriate test controllers at each hierarchy level. The approach is able to detect all those faults, which are in the scope of the underlying self test algorithms. In this paper the hierarchical test architecture, the test controllers as well as all necessary synthesis procedures are presented. Finally a successful application of the HIST approach to a cryptography processor is described.     

Current ISI and monitoring technologies in European energy industries

This paper reviews available information on the state of practice of inservice material property monitoring performed in European energy industries. Current practice includes a range of standard nondestructive testing and monitoring methods, improved remote sampling and surveillance specimen testing, and new monitoring techniques which are emerging from ongoing development programs. These new technologies include ultrasonic, positron annihilation, neutron diffraction, and magnetic techniques.
