This paper analyzes the location‐dependent performance metrics of coverage probability and spectral efficiency in hexagonal cellular networks under Rayleigh fading with a general distribution for shadowing and also including two special cases of no shadowing and lognormal shadowing. The effects of system parameters such as frequency reuse factor, transmission probability of base stations, and signal‐to‐interference‐plus‐noise ratio gap from Shannon capacity are accurately characterized. The proposed approach is applied to fractional frequency reuse (FFR) scheme where the impact of FFR on spectral efficiency is evaluated. Numerical results show that (i) in a lognormal‐shadowed Rayleigh fading channel with the shadowing standard deviation of 12 dB, the cell area wide spectral efficiency is degraded by approximately 40% compared with when there is Rayleigh fading without shadowing; (ii) the improvement in spectral efficiency achieved by FFR over the universal frequency reuse increases as the transmission probability increases and the shadowing becomes less severe; and (iii) in Rayleigh fading without shadowing environment where all the base stations are actively transmitting, FFR achieves approximately 20% improvement in spectral efficiency in the cell edge area. Interestingly, this improvement increases to about 30% if a 3‐dB signal‐to‐interference‐plus‐noise ratio gap from Shannon capacity is further accounted. Copyright © 2015 JohnWiley & Sons  相似文献

A small‐cell network (SCN) constructed by splitting a macro‐cell into numerous small cells using an active antenna array system is studied. A synchronization signal appropriate for the SCN, virtually generated by an eNodeB with 3D beamforming, is proposed for efficient handover in SCNs. The virtual cell synchronization signal (VCSS) carries a macro‐cell ID (MCID) and virtual‐cell ID (VCID) in a hierarchical manner, allowing us to distinguish between an intra‐cell handover (virtual cell handover within a cell without changing the serving eNodeB) and inter‐cell handover (virtual cell handovers across cells while changing the serving eNodeB) in SCNs. Using the signal metrics obtained by the VCSS, an efficient handover measurement technique is proposed which can significantly reduce the processing time and overhead by distinguishing between the intra‐cell/inter‐cell handovers. This paper proposes an input–output linearization‐based active power control strategy to maximize the energy production of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)‐based wind energy conversion system (WECS). The DFIG‐based wind turbine is a nonlinear system, and the nonlinear behavior will result in tracking errors. The proposed control strategy utilizing state feedback successfully deals with the nonlinear behavior existing in the WECS. Such a control will linearize the system input and output first. Then, the control loop and parameters can be designed by the linear system control algorithm. The simulations carried in MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate that the proposed control strategy is effective and promising. © 2016 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. In this study, a practical approach to evaluate the sustainability of river basins subjected to an inter‐basin water transfer project is developed. Selection of appropriate evaluation indicators is pivotal to such approach. To make use of huge amount of data, composite indicators of sustainability (CIS) should be utilised. The proposed approach relies on 15 sustainability indicators (SI) that cover three major criteria namely (economic, social and environmental), and aggregates them into eight different types of sustainability indices for a more robust outcome. Two scenarios were considered within the source and recipient basins. Furthermore, multivariate principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to determine principal and non‐principal indicators for the two river basins. The ability of CIS and PCA methods were verified via correlation and simple regression methods respectively. The results demonstrated that inter‐basin water transfer may improve sustainability, provided that a proper water resource management is enforced.  相似文献

One‐way delay variation (OWDV) has become increasingly of interest to researchers as a way to evaluate network state and service quality, especially for real‐time and streaming services such as voice‐over‐Internet‐protocol (VoIP) and video. Many schemes for OWDV measurement require clock synchronization through the global‐positioning system (GPS) or network time protocol. In clock‐synchronized approaches, the accuracy of OWDV measurement depends on the accuracy of the clock synchronization. GPS provides highly accurate clock synchronization. However, the deployment of GPS on legacy network equipment might be slow and costly. This paper proposes a method for measuring OWDV that dispenses with clock synchronization. The clock synchronization problem is mainly caused by clock skew. The proposed approach is based on the measurement of inter‐packet delay and accumulated OWDV. This paper shows the performance of the proposed scheme via simulations and through experiments in a VoIP network. The presented simulation and measurement results indicate that clock skew can be efficiently measured and removed and that OWDV can be measured without requiring clock synchronization.  相似文献

Zero‐thickness interface elements are used to model contact surfaces or potential cracks. In these cases, their elastic stiffness is often set extremely high to reproduce a rigid behavior. This paper shows that the values of the stress tractions at the nodes of these elements can be affected by an error. A new procedure is proposed here, consisting of adding some nondimensional coefficients (purely geometry‐dependent) to the values of the interface stiffness parameters. This study examines the effects of an atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) pre‐treatment on the shrink resistance of wool fabric treated subsequently, by the pad/dry method, with an aqueous emulsion of the amino‐functional polydimethylsiloxane, SM 8709. Optimal shrink resistance (with no impairment of fabric handle) was obtained after a low‐level plasma treatment (1–3 s exposure time), using 5% of the polymer emulsion. Higher levels of silicone polymer could be used to achieve shrink resistance in the absence of a plasma pre‐treatment, but the fabric handle would be adversely affected. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies showed that the bulk of the covalently bound surface lipid layer was removed after a plasma exposure time of 30 s. For treatment times of 3 s or less, however, the removal was incomplete, suggesting that optimum shrink resistance (after treatment with the silicone polymer) was associated with the modification of the surface layer rather than its complete destruction. Scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) revealed that the plasma pre‐treatment did not lead to any physical modifications (such as smoothening of the scale edges), even for long exposure times, and had no significant impact on the extent or nature of the inter‐fibre bonding of the polymer. Confocal microscopy showed uniform spread of polymer on single fibres. It is concluded that the main impact of the plasma pre‐treatment was to enhance the distribution of polymer both on and between fibres and to improve adhesion of polymer to the fibre.  相似文献
