In recent years, the file-sharing applications of peer-to-peer (P2P) systems, such as Napster, Bit-Torrent (BT), Gnutella, have become very popular, with BT offering particularly high sealability and efficiency service to transmit files. But BT does not enforce the access control process, so a lot of unauthorized files are freely shared. Mobile users and devices want to discover and share a growing range of information as the processing and storage capabilities
of mobile devices grow. For example, users want to discover nearby networks, and location-based or time-sensitive user information
contents. A mobile device may want to discover neighboring networks and the parameters required to access these networks so
that it can intelligently decide which networks to use next, and use its existing network connection to authenticate with
selected neighboring networks before it moves into the coverage areas of the selected networks. This can significantly reduce
handoff delays. Existing service discovery frameworks are not effective for such neighboring network discovery or for discovering
dynamic, location- or time-sensitive user information contents. This paper describes and evaluates a new approach—Mobile Information
Services enabled by Mobile Publishing (MIS-MP)—for real time collection, discovery, and sharing of network and user information.
With MIS-MP, mobiles take full advantage of the wealth of information they can accumulate during their routine mobility and
use of networks to help each other to discover the information they want when and where they want it. This is accomplished
by mobiles publishing the information they collect about the networks they visited, and the user information contents they
learned or used, to make the information available to other mobiles. This paper presents analytical models and simulation
results to evaluate the feasibility and performance of MIS-MP. It also describes a testbed implementation of MIS-MP and some
of the lessons we learned.
Tao Zhang is Director of Mobile Networking Research Group at Telcordia Technologies, Piscataway, New Jersey, USA. He develops and directs
research and advanced development programs in mobile networking and applications, including mobility and applications across
heterogeneous radio networks, mobile information services, vehicular networking, mobile peer-to-peer applications, sensor
networking and applications, and collaborative networking .Dr. Zhang’s work has led to several new commercial products. He
co-authored the book “IP-Based Next Generation Wireless Networks” published by John Wiley & Sons in 2004. He initiated the International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking,
Applications, and Worksharing (CollaborateCom), and has been serving in various roles for it. Dr. Zhang holds 4 U.S. patents,
with over 25 more pending. He received the 2000 Telcordia CEO Award (for most exceptional teams and individuals who have achieved
a significant business success) and 2002 SAIC’s Executive Science and Technology Council Publication Prize.
Eric van den Berg received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University in 1999. After obtaining his degree, he joined Telcordia
Technologies, where he is a Research Scientist in Applied Research Department. His research interests include traffic modeling
and performance analysis of IP- and wireless networks. He received the 2000 Telcordia CEO Award (for most exceptional individuals
and teams who have achieved a significant business success) and the 2002 SAIC Executive Science and Technology Council Publication
Prize.
Sunil Madhani is a Distinguished MTS with Motorola where he manages the IP Realization team in Mobile Device Technology Office. He aims
at working on unconventional and disruptive IP technologies. His current research focus is on convergent networks, dynamic
mobility management and fast handoff in secured/seamless wireless LAN/WAN roaming. His past research includes registration/configuration
protocols in wireless environment, application layer mobility management, secured Mobile IP, managed DOS attack sensor and
TCP/IP boosters. Sunil Madhani holds MS (2002) in Engineering Management & System from Columbia University and MS (1997) in

Distributed channel selection in CRAHNs: A non-selfish scheme for mitigating spectrum fragmentation 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we consider the problem of spectrum sharing in CRAHNs and propose a distributed channel selection scheme. The key functionality of our proposal, best-fit channel selection (BFC) is that it accounts both the primary channel traffic activity and CR traffic activity in channel selection. We assume CR nodes have the capability of estimating the primary channel traffic activities. In BFC, each CR selects a channel among the primary user (PU) channels for transmission that best fits to its transmission time requirement. We compare the performance of BFC to the widely known longest idle time channel selection (LITC) scheme. In LITC, a CR selects the channel that has the longest expected idle time independent of its transmission needs. In a multi-user CRN, this may degrade the network performance compared to the non-selfish BFC approach. LITC is considered selfish since each CR aims to maximize its own benefit and thus wastes resources that may be utilized by other nodes in the network. BFC providing an efficient spectrum sharing mechanism implicitly mitigates the effect of spectrum fragmentation which is a significant issue degrading the CR spectrum utilization. In CRNs, spectrum may be fragmented in various dimensions, e.g. time and frequency, such that some parts of the spectrum can not be used although being idle. Our proposal provides a solution to the spectrum fragmentation issue in time dimension at the medium access control (MAC) layer. By a set of simulations, we highlight the performance improvement by BFC over the conventional LITC under various CR/PU traffic, number of CRs, estimation accuracy and buffering capability. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed BFC is significantly superior to that of LITC in terms of probability of successful transmission, spectrum opportunity utilization and fragmentation. 相似文献

In this paper, we propose an efficient design method for area optimization in a digital filter. The conventional methods to reduce the number of adders in a filter have the problem of a long critical path delay caused by the deep logic depth of the filter due to adder sharing. Furthermore, there is such a disadvantage that they use the transposed direct form (TDF) filter which needs more registers than those of the direct form (DF) filter. In this paper, we present a hybrid structure of a TDF and DF based on the flattened coefficients method so that it can reduce the number of flip‐flops and full‐adders without additional critical path delay. We also propose a resource sharing method and sharing‐pattern searching algorithm to reduce the number of adders without deepening the logic depth. Simulation results show that the proposed structure can save the number of adders and registers by 22 and 26%, respectively, compared to the best one used in the past. 相似文献

Utility is an important factor for serviceproviders, and they try to increase their utilities through adopting different policies and strategies. Because of unpredictable failures in systems, there are many scenarios in which the failures may cause random losses for service providers. Loss sharing can decrease negative effects of unexpected random losses. Because of capabilities of learning automata in random and stochastic environments, in this paper, a new learning automaton based method is presented for loss sharing purpose. It is illustrated that the loss sharing can be useful for service providers and helps them to decrease negative effect of the random losses. The presented method can be used especially in collaborative environments such as federated clouds. As Codesign problems become larger and more realistic, the required time to estimate their solutions turns into an important bottleneck. This paper presents a new approach to improve the traditional estimation techniques, in order to avoid this drawback. The presented method has been successfully tested on a large experimental benchmark, attaining quality levels close to those provided by the Synopsys Behavioral Compiler. Finally, a case study based on the standard H.261 video co-dec is described, proving the convenience of the technique on real-life situations. The obtained results show a significant improvement in the process time, while keeping the good precision and fidelity levels that the traditional estimation models usually offer. 相似文献
