Spacecraft venturing to the outer planets and beyond—or onto the planetary surface where available solar energy is reduced—benefit from the longevity and consistency of electrical and thermal energy derived from radioisotope energy sources. A review of likely mission requirements and concept studies of small electrical generating units (<10 We) reveals a potential opportunity for a unit with an electrical output of around 1 We that can also supply some heat to the spacecraft to aid thermal control: a radioisotope thermoelectric and heating unit. This power requirement cannot be achieved with current US space‐qualified modular radioisotope fuel assemblies. Additionally, new European programmes consider 241Am fuel to be much more cost effective than 238Pu. Taken together, these factors provide the rationale for taking a relatively ‘clean‐sheet’ approach to design of a radioisotope thermoelectric and heating unit fuelled with 241Am. In this paper, initial requirements and performance targets for such a unit are developed, a simple concept design and thermal model is presented and the performance and mass are estimated. The results suggest that units generating 1–2 We may achieve a specific power of around 0.7–0.9 We kg?1 without the thermal inputs to spacecraft becoming impractically large. Such units can use a bismuth telluride thermoelectric material, which is commercially applied in terrestrial applications and is therefore likely to incur lower cost and development risk than more specialised compounds. The systematic recording of underground structures, their location, use as well as other characteristics is something that is still missing from the global engineering community. The paper presents the development of the Underground Atlas Project which aims at gathering and indexing the major underground sites worldwide, becoming the focal point of information regarding subsurface structures. The main features of the project are found in the development of the electronic database to store and depict the spatial information of the site, as well as in the crowdsourcing concept that was selected for the data and information submission. To foster the submission process, a new taxonomy and categorization of underground space uses has been proposed, while a respective web service and mobile app was developed by the design team. The users can either browse through the records stored or, more importantly, can submit new content either by using their browser or by taking advantage of the geolocation capabilities of their mobile device. Finally, the Atlas will provide the opportunity for the meta-analysis of the data by using and benefiting from the accumulated knowledge and collective experience of the engineering community. 相似文献

We have developed an automatic emissive probe apparatus based on the improved inflection point method of the emissive probe for accurate measurements of both plasma potential and vacuum space potential.The apparatus consists of a computer controlled data acquisition card,a working circuit composed by a biasing unit and a heating unit,as well as an emissive probe.With the set parameters of the probe scanning bias,the probe heating current and the fitting range,the apparatus can automatically execute the improved inflection point method and give the measured result.The validity of the automatic emissive probe apparatus is demonstrated in a test measurement of vacuum potential distribution between two parallel plates,showing an excellent accuracy of 0.1 V.Plasma potential was also measured,exhibiting high efficiency and convenient use of the apparatus for space potential measurements. 相似文献

In this article, we present an adaptive color similarity function defined in a modified hue‐saturation‐intensity color space, which can be used directly as a metric to obtain pixel‐wise segmentation of color images among other applications. The color information of every pixel is integrated as a unit by an adaptive similarity function thus avoiding color information scattering. As a direct application we present an efficient interactive, supervised color segmentation method with linear complexity respect to the number of pixels of the input image. The process has three steps: (1) Manual selection of few pixels in a sample of the color to be segmented. (2) Automatic generation of the so called color similarity image (CSI), which is a gray level image with all the gray level tonalities associated with the selected color. (3) Automatic threshold of the CSI to obtain the final segmentation. The proposed technique is direct, simple and computationally inexpensive. The evaluation of the efficiency of the color segmentation method is presented showing good performance in all cases of study. A comparative study is made between the behavior of the proposed method and two comparable segmentation techniques in color images using (1) the Euclidean metric of the a* and b* color channels rejecting L* and (2) a probabilistic approach on a* and b* in the CIE L*a*b* color space. Our testing system can be used either to explore the behavior of a similarity function (or metric) in different color spaces or to explore different metrics (or similarity functions) in the same color space. It was obtained from the results that the color parameters a* and b* are not independent of the luminance parameter L* as one might initially assume in the CIE L*a*b* color space. We show that our solution improves the quality of the proposed color segmentation technique and its quick result is significant with respect to other solutions found in the literature. In systems research, the fuzzy measures we encounter most often are finite and established on S-compact spaces, which contain finite and infinitely countable measurable spaces. The structural characteristics of set function, such as null-additivity, autocontinuity, and uniform autocontinuity, are very important for the researches in fuzzy integral. For a fuzzy measure, the null-additivity is a quite weak requirement added on it, but the autocontinuity and the uniform autocontinuity are very powerful properties. A quality-by-design approach was adopted to develop telmisartan potassium (TP) tablets, which were bioequivalent with the commercially available Micardis® (telmisartan free base) tablets. The dissolution pattern and impurity profile of TP tablets differed from those of Micardis® tablets because telmisartan free base is poorly soluble in water. After identifying the quality target product profile and critical quality attributes (CQAs), drug dissolution, and impurities were predicted to be risky CQAs. To determine the exact range and cause of risks, we used the risk assessment (RA) tools, preliminary hazard analysis and failure mode and effect analysis to determine the parameters affecting drug dissolution, impurities, and formulation. The range of the design space was optimized using the face-centered central composite design among the design of experiment (DOE) methods. The binder, disintegrant, and kneading time in the wet granulation were identified as X values affecting Y values (disintegration, hardness, friability, dissolution, and impurities). After determining the design space with the desired Y values, the TP tablets were formulated and their dissolution pattern was compared with that of the reference tablet. The selected TP tablet formulated using design space showed a similar dissolution to that of Micardis® tablets at pH 7.5. The QbD approach TP tablet was bioequivalent to Micardis® tablets in beagle dogs. 相似文献
