The second-order stiffness matrix and corresponding loading vector of a prismatic beam–column subjected to a constant axial load and supported on a uniformly distributed elastic foundation (Winkler type) along its span with its ends connected to elastic supports are derived in a classical manner. The stiffness coefficients are expressed in terms of the ballast coefficient of the elastic foundation, applied axial load, support conditions, bending, and shear deformations. These individual parameters may be dropped when the appropriate effect is not considered; therefore, the proposed model captures all the different models of beams and beam–columns including those based on the theories of Bernoulli–Euler, Timoshenko, Rayleigh, and bending and shear.The expressions developed for the load vector are also general for any type or combinations of transverse loads including concentrated and partially nonuniform distributed loads. In addition, the transfer equations necessary to determine the transverse deflections, rotations, shear, and bending moments along the member are also developed and presented. 相似文献

This paper investigates the non-linear elastic behavior of unidirectional and cross-ply CFRP laminates and proposes a new method to measure tensile strain using Lamb waves. Young’s modulus was measured as a function of strain in situ using Lamb wave velocity during a tensile test. The stiffening effect of the carbon fibers on [0]8 specimens and the softening effect of the epoxy matrix on [90]8 specimens were accurately evaluated. Young’s modulus of the 0° ply was obtained as a quadratic function of strain. Using the function and the rule of mixture, the dependence of Young’s modulus on strain was accurately predicted for cross-ply laminates. Based on the results, the tensile strain was quantitatively correlated with the corresponding arrival time of the Lamb waves. The strains obtained from the proposed method agreed well with those from the strain gauge. Finally, the effect of transverse cracks on the in situ Young’s modulus of the cross-ply laminate under a tensile load was investigated. This method clearly detected even a small decrease in the Young’s modulus due to the transverse cracks in stiffening cross-ply laminate. 相似文献

The equivalent inclusion method (EIM) is adopted to study the characteristics of the equivalent material properties of steel-fiber reinforced concrete as a function of the volume fraction and the length to diameter ratio of the fibers. It is found that the equivalent material moduli of concrete reinforce with randomly orientated and distributed fibers are insensitive to the length to diameter ratio of the steel fibers. A set of empirical formulae is then proposed for the purposes of engineering applications. The proposed empirical model can simplify the calculation of the equivalent material moduli. Verifications of the proposed empirical formulae with the EIM model and with experimental data are performed with two examples. The first is a compression test. The second is 4 point bending test. The empirical formulae, based on the equivalent inclusion method proposed in this study, represent an alternative means of quickly calculating the effective elastic modulus of steel-fiber reinforced concrete materials. 相似文献

In this paper, the nonlinear behavior of symmetric and antisymmetric cross ply, thin to moderately thick, elastic rectangular laminated plates resting on nonlinear elastic foundations are studied using differential quadrature method (DQM). The first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) in conjunction with the Green’s strain and von Karman hypothesis are assumed for modeling the nonlinear behavior. Elastic foundation is modeled as shear deformable with cubic nonlinearity. The differential quadrature (DQ) discretized form of the governing equations with the various types of boundary conditions are derived. The Newton–Raphson iterative scheme is employed to solve the resulting system of nonlinear algebraic equations. Comparisons are made and the convergence studies are performed to show the accuracy of the results even with a few number of grid points. The effects of thickness-to-length ratio, aspect ratio, number of plies, fiber orientation and staking sequence on the nonlinear behavior of cross ply laminated plates with different boundary conditions resting on elastic foundations are studied. 相似文献
