A macroscopic compression test utilizing a simple custom‐built instrument was employed to measure polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastic modulus. PDMS samples with varying crosslinking density were prepared with the elastomer base to the curing agent ratio ranging from 5 : 1 to 33 : 1. The PDMS network elastic modulus varied linearly with the amount of crosslinker, ranging from 0.57 MPa to 3.7 MPa for the samples tested. PDMS elastic modulus in MPa can be expressed as 20 MPa/PDMS base to curing agent ratio. Graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) with the char barrier effect were combined with brominated polystyrene (BPS) and antimony trioxide (Sb2O3) to improve the flame retardancy and thermal stability of high‐density polyethylene. Thermogravimetric analysis, limited oxygen index (LOI) testing, and vertical burning testing (UL‐94) showed that the presence of GNPs led to enhanced thermal oxidation stability and significantly reduced the flammability. The addition of 1 wt % GNPs to polyethylene/BPS–Sb (mass ratio = 92/6/2) led to UL‐94 grades from NG (first burning time > 30 s) to V‐2 (total burning time = 14 s), and the LOI value increased from 23.4 to 24.1%. The results of the pyrolysis products provided evidence that the GNPs restricted volatilization. The morphology of the chars also proved the formation of the char layer, which could act as a barrier to isolate the material from the flame and retard the vaporization of flammable gases via a tortuous pathway. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The chemical composition of low temperature cofired ceramics (LTCC) allows to locally embed air into sintered substrates by a selective wet chemical etch process. Therefore, LTCC substrate with areas of low permittivity can be created without material combination. The presented graphical method of material component contrast images enables the evaluation of their most important material properties which are their component distribution, their porosification gradient and their residual bearing surface. The graphical method, including focused ion beam and scanning electron microscopy analyses, is applied to different commercially available LTCC types having two porosification states each. Derived mathematical models, which are suitable for finite element method implementation, allow the characterisation of the effective permittivity reduction while keeping a maximum residual surface area for, e.g., metallisation purposes. The shape of the optimum material distribution function features an ‘air pocket’ of small width and a depth being dependent on the application specific operating frequency.  相似文献

A novel freeze-casting method is used to fabricate aligned lamellar porous alumina with a centrosymmetric structure from aqueous alumina slurries. Two cold fronts oriented perpendicularly to each other, originating from the bottom and side of the cylindrical copper mold, induce the growth of ice crystals in specific directions along the radius of the cylindrical mold. Lamellar channels of porous alumina are arranged centrosymmetrically along the radial axis. The pore distribution of the currently prepared porous ceramics is more regular when compared with that of porous ceramics prepared by conventional freeze casting. This affords porous ceramics with improved mechanical properties and stability. The current method addresses the issue of partial failure as induced by the randomly distributed channels in lamellar porous ceramics.  相似文献

Nano-hardness (Hnano) and nano-elastic modulus (Enano) of corroded coating surface layer were investigated using nano-indentation after epoxy coated specimens were immersed in 5% NaCl solution. The penetration depths (d) of corrosive media into epoxy coating were calculated fitting the curves of (H/E)nano vs. indentation depth (h). EIS spectra of epoxy coated specimens immersed in 5% NaCl solution for different time were measured. Finally the relationship of capacitance (Cf,T) of corroded epoxy coating with the penetration depth of corrosive media was studied. The experimental results showed that the transportation process of corrosive media into epoxy coating was studied through the profiles of (H/E)nano with indentation depth. The penetration depth of corrosive media into the epoxy coating increases rapidly with immersed time firstly, and then increases slowly. The capacitance of corroded epoxy coating has a linear function relationship with the penetration depth of corrosive media into epoxy coating. Nano-indentation can be used to study the transportation process of corrosive media into organic coating.  相似文献

The (AgBr)x(LiPO3)(1−x) (x=0.4 and 0.5) and [(AgI)x(AgBr)0.4−x](LiPO3)0.6 (x=0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) superionic electrolytes have been prepared by conventional melt quenching using a twin roller. These electrolytes are characterized by X-ray diffraction, SEM, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) for structural investigation. Electrical characterizations have been carried out by the AC impedance analysis. The conductivity of LiPO3 glassy system at room temperature is improved by doping with the silver bromide (AgBr)x(LiPO3)(1−x) and the mixture of silver iodide, silver bromide (AgI-AgBr-LiPO3 system) up to 10−5 and 10−3 Ω−1 cm−1, respectively (improvements by four or five orders of magnitude). The frequency response of ionic conductivity has been analyzed by universal dynamic response model (Jonscher's law) and AC conductivity data are fitted using the Jonscher's power law. The conductivity values obtained by the power law and impedance plots are comparable. The frequency exponent (n) has a value between 0 and 1. The AgI-AgBr-LiPO3 system shows the mixed alkali effect. Summerfield scaling master curve is temperature dependent, which may be due to the contribution of the both lithium and silver ions to ionic conduction.  相似文献

The effects of five layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with different zinc ratio on the physical and rheological properties, chemical components, and anti-UV aging performance of asphalt were evaluated. Results show that LDHs improve the deformation resistance of asphalt at high temperature. After UV aging, LDH-modified asphalts show the smaller changes of physical and rheological properties and chemical components in comparison with asphalt, indicating the improved UV aging resistance. By comparison, the LDHs with higher ratio of zinc in the layers have the more outstanding UV reflection ability, leading to a beneficial effect in improving UV aging resistance of asphalt.  相似文献

Si3N4 whisker (Si3N4w) reinforced composites were prepared by a near-net shaping process, i.e., gel-casting of the Si3N4w preform followed by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) densification using polysilazane as precursor. The densification process by PIP was described mathematically, after which several key parameters affecting densification efficiency were discussed. The small pore size (0.04 ~ 1 μm) of Si3N4w preform can cause filtration effect (low permeability of precursor with a molecular size bigger than pore size), which resulted in the density gradient of the composites. Porosity (P) dependence of flexural strength and elastic modulus of Si3N4w/Si3N4 followed a power law of (1 – P). With increasing density, the response of Si3N4w when confronting cracks transformed from whisker debonding to whisker fracture, which was supposed to be due to the increase of whisker/matrix interface strength. The Si3N4w/Si3N4 developed by us achieved a good balance between high strength and low dielectric constant, making it promising for high-temperature wave-transparent application.  相似文献

In view of the practical application of γ-AlON as a promising transparent structural ceramic, in-depth insight into its mechanical and thermal properties is essential. The solid-state MAS NMR technique was combined with XRD Rietveld refinement to confirm the crystal structure of Al(8+x)/3O4-xNx (x = 0.299–0.575). These structural parameters were further applied to predict hardness and elastic properties based on theoretical exploration, which are in good agreement with the experimental values. A slight enhancement of mechanical properties with increasing nitrogen concentration is attributed to the stronger chemical bond in octahedra. The experimental thermal conductivity of γ-AlON transparent ceramics was improved slightly with the rise of x in the temperature range from 298 K to 1074 K. The intrinsic lattice thermal conductivity was determined by eliminating the extrinsic phonon scattering as well as the thermal radiation. The reason for the discrepancy between experimental and intrinsic thermal conductivity was revealed. The present methods provided powerful and accessible guidelines in optimizing the mechanical and thermal properties of oxynitride materials.  相似文献
