Understanding short crack behaviour is essential for predicting the lifetime of light water reactor components. However, crack growth rates of short cracks are unsteady due to microstructural obstacles such as grain boundaries. On the other hand, the statistical behaviour of short cracks can be deduced from crack size distributions. Some papers have pointed out that the crack size distributions obtained by stress corrosion cracking tests showed a kink in the distribution line. This kink suggests that the short crack growth rate is slow compared with that of long cracks. And it can be thought that the slow growth rate is caused by the microstructural obstacles. This study investigated the influence of grain boundaries on the short crack growth behaviour of intergranular stress corrosion cracking. A crack growth simulation model, which considered the mechanical effects of the crack kink and bifurcation by grain boundaries, was developed. The crack depth distribution obtained by the simulation also exhibited a kink in the distribution line as seen in the experimental results. This suggests that grain boundaries play an important role in short crack growth behaviour. 相似文献

In the chemical vapor deposition growth of large-area graphene polycrystalline thin films,the coalescence of randomly oriented graphene domains results in a high density of uncertain grain boundaries (GBs).The structures and properties of various GBs are highly dependent on the misorientation angles between the graphene domains,which can significantly affect the performance of the graphene films and impede their industrial applications.Graphene bicrystals with a specific type of GB can be synthesized via the controllable growth of graphene domains with a predefined lattice orientation.Although the bicrystal has been widely investigated for traditional bulk materials,no successful synthesis strategy has been presented for growing two-dimensional graphene bicrystals.In this study, we demonstrate a simple approach for growing well-aligned large-domain graphene bicrystals with a confined tilt angle of 30° on a facilely recrystallized single-crystal Cu (100) substrate.Control of the density of the GBs with a misorientation angle of 30° was realized via the controllable rapid growth of subcentimeter graphene domains with the assistance of a cooperative catalytic surface-passivation treatment.The large-area production of graphene bicrystals consisting of the sole specific GBs with a tunable density provides a new material platform for fundamental studies and practical applications. 相似文献

AbstractIn the present research, a combined forward extrusion–equal channel angular pressing was developed and executed for the deformation of a plain carbon steel. In this method, two different deformation steps, including forward extrusion and equal channel angular pressing, take place successively in a single die. The deformation process was performed at different deformation start temperatures (800, 930 and 1100°C). Three-dimensional finite element simulation was used to predict the strain and temperature variations within the samples during deformation. With microstructural observations and the results of finite element simulation, the main grain refinement mechanisms were studied at different deformation temperatures. The results show that the forward extrusion–equal channel angular pressing is effective in refining the ferrite grains from an initial size of 32 μm to a final size of ~0·9 μm. The main mechanisms of grain refinement were considered to be strain assisted transformation, dynamic strain induced transformation and continuous dynamic recrystallisation, depending on the deformation temperature. 相似文献
