A physically simple but mathematically cumbersome problem of rotating heavy string with one fixed top point was studied. A nonlinear equation of its two-dimensional shapes of relative equilibrium was obtained and solved numerically. A linear case of small displacements was analyzed in terms of Bessel functions. The qualitative and quantitative behavior of the problem is discussed with the help of a bifurcation diagram. Dynamics of the two-dimensional model near the equilibrium positions were studied with the help of a simulation using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF); the equilibriums were found to be instable. The reason for instability is explained using a variational principle. A specially designed tube viscometer was used to measure apparent viscosity during flow of Bologna type sausage emulsions moving through a pipe. Emulsions varied in fat content (from 21.8 to 44.3%) and in moisture/protein ratio (from 3.7 to 5.6), and the effects of added sodium chloride, sodium diphosphate, starch and blood plasma were investigated in a 36% fat, 3.7 moisture/protein emulsion.
The shear stresses determined as a function of shear rate were fitted by a power law. Yield stress of the emulsions was negligible relative to the applied stress. However, inspection of the flow profiles indicated that considerable slip of the sausage emulsion occurred at the pipe wall. Both emulsion flow and slip contribute to overall flow behaviour, so a kind of effective viscosity is determined. Intrinsic rheological properties and wall slip will both be affected by the composition of the sausage emulsion. 相似文献

A new interaction integral formulation is developed for evaluating the elastic T-stress for mixed-mode crack problems with
arbitrarily oriented straight or curved cracks in orthotropic nonhomogeneous materials. The development includes both the
Lekhnitskii and Stroh formalisms. The former is physical and relatively simple, and the latter is mathematically elegant.
The gradation of orthotropic material properties is integrated into the element stiffness matrix using a “generalized isoparametric
formulation” and (special) graded elements. The specific types of material gradation considered include exponential and hyperbolic-tangent
functions, but micromechanics models can also be considered within the scope of the present formulation. This paper investigates
several fracture problems to validate the proposed method and also provides numerical solutions, which can be used as benchmark
results (e.g. investigation of fracture specimens). The accuracy of results is verified by comparison with analytical solutions. 相似文献

This paper investigates electrostatic voltage distributions around a surface-breaking flaw due to an injected current of known
strength. The direct 3-D solution of the voltage behavior over the flawed surface is obtained numerically by the use of a
boundary integral formulation. A novel iteration method is applied to solve the resulting electrostatic integral equation
for the unknown surface voltage distribution. In addition to investigating the sensitivity of different flaw sizes to the
observed surface voltage distribution, important issues such as suitable probe spacing and current flow orientation are studied.
For sufficiently small surface-breaking flaws, a simple image source model is developed to evaluate the voltage response of
hairline cracks. The model is tested by comparing it with the developed numerical solution. Experiments aimed at establishing
the validity of the modeling approach show remarkable agreement with the theoretical model. 相似文献
