Current trends in redox polymers for energy and medicine

Polymers with redox properties are electroactive macromolecules containing localized sites or groups that can be oxidized (loss of electrons) and reduced (gain of electrons). This review highlights trends in the chemistry, characterization and application of polymers with redox properties. In the first part, we overview the synthetic advances in the design of innovative redox polymers. Special attention is given to state-of-art techniques for the characterization of redox polymers and their important properties are also explained. The last part is devoted to the redox polymers applied in energy and medicine. First, the main redox polymers investigated in energy technologies such as batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells, biofuel cells or thermoelectric cells are reviewed. Second, the emerging applications of redox polymers in medicine technologies such as drug delivery, biosensors, actuators or smart surfaces are explained in detail.     

Review of Canadian mental health law and policy.

Reviews the book, Canadian Mental Health Law and Policy by John E. Gray, Margaret A. Shone, and Peter F. Liddle (2000). The authors of this book have produced a multidisciplinary text that succinctly summarizes the main points of Canadian mental health laws and the variability across provinces and territories in these laws and in their typical interpretation and application. This book offers a concise guide to the laws dealing with key issues such as involuntary hospital admission, authorization of psychiatric treatment, and treatment refusal. Although not always an easy read for those unfamiliar with legal terms and writing, the book is geared to a wide audience that includes legal and policy specialists, mental health professionals, and advocates for the mentally ill. These authors are to be congratulated for their efforts to disseminate and explain information on Canadian mental health law and to promote a more humane and scientifically grounded set of legal standards and interpretations that are pertinent to the disposition and treatment of Canadian citizens with severe mental disorders. 宝钢地区智能卡煤气表的开发与应用

主要叙述智能卡煤气表在宝钢地区推广和应用的情况。智能止煤气表具有安全可靠、保密性强、使用方便等优点。同时，实现了抄表不进屋，提高了劳动生产率，解决了一些用户拖欠敢费的现象。针对在试用过程中出现的一些问题，对智能卡煤气表提出了改进建议。     

Feedback supported isolation structure for blocking of minority leakage carriers in power integrated circuits

A combination of two conventional junction isolation structures is used to produce a device, which significantly improves the blocking of minority carriers injected into the substrate of a power IC due to switching of an inductive load. Simulation results show that the connection scheme employed greatly enhances the efficiency of the structures. A substrate current reduction of up to four orders of magnitude compared to conventional junction isolation structures is achieved. The significance of doping profiles in the p-sinker region is evaluated.

Doping front migration in intrinsically conductive polymers and its application

Doping front migration is a recently discovered effect occurring in sandwich structures composed of intrinsically conductive polymers. A system based on chemical or electrochemical doping is capable of controlling an integrated display and modifying the electrical resistance of the conductive polymer. The effect does not require a battery and is capable of monitoring time and temperature exposure. Low-cost devices using doping front migration could be the basis of a new class of smart labels for applications such as electronic “best before” labels on food and drink.     

二氧化氯消毒在废水处理中的应用分析

确定了医院废水采用二氧化氯进行消毒。具有消毒效果好、符合污染物国家一级排放标准（GB8978—1996）、运行费用低等特点。本实践给同类污水消毒，提供了借鉴作用。

Electro-mechanical load transfer from a fiber in a 1–3 piezocomposite with an imperfect interface

This paper considers the electro-mechanical interaction between a fiber and a matrix material in a 1–3 piezocomposite due to an axial load and electric charge applied to the fiber. The fiber–matrix interface is assumed to be mechanically imperfect and is represented by a spring-factor model. The interface is either electrically open- or short-circuited. The analytical general solutions corresponding to an infinite piezoelectric fiber with a vertical body force and an electric body charge are derived by using Fourier integral transforms. These solutions together with the analytical general solutions for a transversely isotropic elastic medium are used to formulate the fiber–matrix interaction problem. Selected numerical results for the fiber axial force and vertical electric field, and interfacial stresses are presented for representative 1–3 piezocomposites. The influence of the interface stiffness on the electro-mechanical load diffusion is also examined.     

Smart structures and their applications on active vibration control: Studies in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, METU

This work presents the theoretical and experimental studies conducted in Aerospace Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University on smart structures with particular attention given to the structural modelling characteristics and active suppression of in-vacuo vibrations. The smart structures considered in these analyses are finite and flat aluminium cantilever beam-like (called as smart beam) and plate-like (called as smart fin) structures with surface bonded lead–zirconate–titanate patches. Finite element models of smart beam and smart fin are obtained. Then the experimental studies regarding open loop behaviour of the structures are performed by using strain gauges and laser displacement sensor to determine the system models. Further studies are carried out to obtain H _∞ and μ-synthesis controllers which are intended to be used in the suppression of free and forced vibrations of the smart structures. It is observed that satisfactory attenuation levels are achieved and robust performance of the systems in the presence of uncertainties is ensured. In that respect a comparative study involving H _∞ and sliding mode controls is also conducted. Recently, the studies involving aerodynamic loading are also gathering pace.
