Eight trials were conducted for drying mackerel by a solar biomass hybrid cabinet dryer (S-BHCD) and open sun drying (OSD) at air temperatures of 32.39–57.69°C, relative humidity 23.9–85.8%, and air flow rate of 0.20–0.60 m/s. The solar radiation ranged between 287 and 898 W/m2 during the time of experimentation. At nighttime, drying was carried out by combusting biomass. The initial moisture content of the processed mackerel was 72.50±0.44% (w.b.) and was reduced to the final moisture content of 16.67±0.52% (w.b.) in S-BHCD and 16.92±0.54% (w.b.) in OSD. Eleven drying models were used and the coefficients of determination (R 2) and constants were evaluated by nonlinear regression to estimate the drying curves of dried mackerels. The Midilli model was found to more satisfactorily describe the drying process of mackerel in S-BHCD with R 2 of 0.9999, χ2 of 0.0000374, and RMSE of 0.0057. In the OSD, a two-term drying model satisfactorily described the drying process with R 2 of 0.9996, χ2 of 0.0000519, and RMSE of 0.0072. The variation of Free Fatty acid (FFA), Peroxide value (PV), Thiobarbituric acid (TBA), Total volatile bases nitrogen (TVB-N), Trimethylamine nitrogen (TMA-N), and histamine contents of dried mackerel by using S-BHCD showed very high corresponding coefficients of determination, where all R 2 were greater than 0.90, except TBA value. Bacterial count and mold growth were decreased significantly (P < 0.05). There was no discoloration of the product during 4 months of storage. Contour plots of S-BHCD and OSD dried mackerel also showed that for all sensory attributes examined, panelists preferred fish dried with S-BHCD. The organoleptic analysis showed that the S-BHCD drying methods have a highly significant effect (P < 0.01) on texture and overall acceptability. Biochemical, microbial analysis, and sensory evaluation showed that the product was in prime acceptable form for 4 months of storage at ambient temperature. 相似文献

A prototype of a hybrid solar dryer was developed for drying of tomato. It consists of a flat-plate concentrating collector, heat storage with auxiliary heating unit, and drying unit. It has a loading capacity of 20 kg of fresh half-cut tomato. The dryer was tested in different weather and operating conditions. The performance of the dryer was compared with an open sun-drying method. Drying performance was evaluated in terms of drying rate, color, ascorbic acid, lycopene, and total flavonoids. Tomato halves were pretreated with UV radiation, acetic acid, citric acid, ascorbic acid, sodium metabisulphite, and sodium chloride. A dynamic mathematical model for drying of agricultural products in an indirect cabinet solar dryer is presented. This model describes the heat and mass transfer in the drying chamber and also considers the heat transfer and temperature distribution in a solar collector under transient conditions. For this purpose, using conservation laws of heat and mass transfer and considering the physical phenomena occurring in a solar dryer, the governing equations are derived and solved numerically. The model solution provides an effective tool to study the variation of temperature and humidity of the drying air, drying material temperature, and its moisture content on each tray. The predicted results are compared with available experimental data. It is shown that the model can predict the performance of the cabinet solar dryer in unsteady-state operating conditions well. Furthermore, the effect of some operating parameters on the performance and efficiency of dryer is investigated and compared with selected published data. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper describes the basic design of the GHE solar dryer and evaluates the performance of the dryer when used to dry vanilla pods. From laboratory test results it was indicated that the average drying time for vanilla pods was between 49 to 53, 5 hrs, for the case of heating augmentation using coal briquette stoves. The total amount of coal briquettes used to produce drying air temperature between 33 C to 65 C and RH of about 34% during day time was 61 kg equivalent to 6.1 kW heating rate and the average electric energy usage of 36.5 kWh, respectively. ABSTRACT Experiments were carried out in Davis, California, USA to compare sun drying of a bed of cassava chips placed in wire mesh trays with those placed in trays made of sheet metal. The wire mesh permitted wind to blow easily through the bed of chips, while the sheet metal constrained the wind to flow across the top of the bed, Drying was faster in the wire mesh trays; the chips reached a moisture content for safe storage after 27 hours of drying, while those in the sheet metal trays took 35 hours. The uniformity of drying was also markedly better in the wire mesh trays. Higher temperatures were attained in the chips contained in the sheet metal trays due to contact heat transfer between the trays and the chips. However the restricted air flow around the chips in the sheet metal trays led them to dry slower than those in the wire mesh trays. 相似文献

Sea buckthorn is a promising source of bioactive compounds. However, there is limited information on the effect of post harvest drying and extraction of sea buckthorn on its antioxidant capacity. The effect of freeze, air, and solar dryingon the extraction yield of sea buckthorn berries and leaves was evaluated with respect to their bioactive content. Sequential extraction with solvents of different polarity and solvent-free microwave-assisted extraction were applied. Freeze-drying has better performance in the berries’ extracts, while air-drying has better performance in the leaves’ extracts. All data were analyzed by Multi Factor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan's post-hoc tests at a level of α = .05. Although the extraction yield in the sequential extraction of sea buckthorn berries is significantly better, the leaves’ extracts exhibit superior radical scavenging ability. Accelerated solar drying appears to preserve sea buckthorn leaves without degrading their antioxidant content. The components responsible for the high antioxidant activity of leaves’ extracts were found to be several flavonoids and polyphenols. The extract obtained by the microwave extraction of fresh berries exhibits moderate antioxidant activity compared to the polar extracts of freeze-dried berries. 相似文献

The experimental friction factor and Nusselt number data for laminar flow through a circular duct having integral helical corrugations and fitted with a helical screw-tape insert are presented. Predictive friction factor and Nusselt number correlations are also presented. The thermohydraulic performance was evaluated. The major findings of this experimental investigation are that the helical screw-tape insert in combination with integral helical corrugations performs significantly better than the individual enhancement technique acting alone for laminar flow through a circular duct up to a certain value of the fin parameter. This research finding is useful in designing tubes carrying solar thermal mass of viscous oil in a parabolic trough solar collector used in environmentally sound and increasingly cost-effective solar thermal electric power plants.
