Roof bed deformation mechanics is a complex topic in mining practice. There are a number of empirical, analytical and numerical techniques that can be used to analyze and design underground excavations in stratified rock masses. Each has particular drawbacks, however, so the use of just one approach in order to obtain consistent and economic designs is not practical. To deepen understanding of this topic, it is useful to study real failure in mines. In this paper we describe how a roof bed failure in an underground mine, excavated in a stratified rock mass, was back-analyzed using different approaches, namely, the empirical stability graph method, the analytical voussoir techniques, and the numerical discrete element method. The study enabled us to better understand the conditions of failure and to define the most significant parameters affecting the failure. It has also been shown how relaxation or loss of confinement stress can play an important role in roof bed deformation. 相似文献

Stratified oil-water two-phase turbulent flow in a horizontal tube is numerically simulated using a volume of fluid model. A single momentum equation is solved throughout the domain. The RNG k-ε model combined with a near-wall low-Re turbulence model is applied to each phase, and a continuum surface force approximation is adopted for the calculation of surface tension. The simulation is performed in a time-dependent way and the final solution which corresponds to steady-state flow is analyzed. Results of pressure loss, slip ratio, local phase fraction profile and the axial velocity profile are verified by experimental data in literature. A detailed experimental study was conducted to investigate the hydraulics, interfacial instability, and mixing in the supercritical region of exchange flows downstream of a sill crest. Measurements of the velocity field and the interface position were obtained using flow visualization and particle image velocimetry. Large periodic fluctuations in the measurements of the flow rate and interface position were caused by the Kelvin–Helmholtz (KH) instabilities at the interface as well as the internal seiche. These KH instabilities caused entrainment of fluid from the upper layer into the lower layer, with the entrainment coefficient considerably larger than the values for gravity currents. 相似文献

This paper focuses on the development of a magnetic moment method of calculating vector field quantities for a highly permeable ferrite cored eddy current probe. Basis functions are used in this method to replace the scattered field caused by the probe core in accordance with the surface equivalence theorem. These functions are further developed and tested for accuracy and convergence. An efficient material profile equation, independent of probe coil and basis function properties, is also designed and verified. Collocation point selection and optimisation is finally undertaken leading to the accurate determination of probe source coil impedance.
