Abstract This paper surveys the attitudes on the use of computers for aesthetic communication. In spite of the proliferation of computer art software and the popularity of art galleries on the world-wide web, many artists still find it difficult to accept computer art as a form of art. Many of them find only commercial values in computer art. To understand the latent attitudes constituting this rejection, a survey was conducted among high school students and the data was analysed with LISREL structural equation modelling techniques. Results indicate that aesthetic concerns, conservatism, and stereotypes are the major factors accounting for the negative attitude. Implications for system design to overcome the negative attitudes are discussed. 相似文献

A method was developed to determine the levels of two intense sweeteners, saccharin and acesulfame-K, in human urine. Measurement of these two analytes in urine allowed an assessment to be made of dietary exposure to the sweeteners using intake/excretion curves. This paper describes an intake/excretion study in which 22 volunteers consumed known amounts of saccharin and acesulfame-K at five different levels ranging between 1.4 and 70mg of saccharin (0.7- 30% of the ADI for a 60kg person) and 2.2-102mg of acesulfame-K (0.4-19% of the ADI for a 60kg person). Urine collections were then carried out by the volunteers for 24 h after each dose. The data obtained from this study were used to construct intake/excretion curves for both sweeteners. To test the methodology developed, 188 volunteers aged between 3 and 74 years were asked to carry out a 24-h urine collection whilst keeping a 48-h food diary. Comparison of the intake data obtained using the biomarker approach with the questionnaire-based results was generally good, although discrepancies due to the format and assessment of the questionnaire data were noticed. 相似文献

This study examined associations of chronotype and age with shift-specific assessments of main sleep duration, sleep quality and need for recovery in a cross-sectional study among N = 261 industrial shift workers (96.6% male). Logistic regression analyses were used, adjusted for gender, lifestyle, health, nap behaviour, season of assessment and shift schedule. Shift workers with latest versus earliest chronotype reported a shorter sleep duration (OR 11.68, 95% CI 3.31–41.17) and more awakenings complaints (OR 4.84, 95% CI 4.45–11.92) during morning shift periods. No associations were found between chronotype, sleep and need for recovery during evening and night shift periods. For age, no associations were found with any of the shift-specific outcome measures. The results stress the importance of including the concept of chronotype in shift work research and scheduling beyond the concept of age. Longitudinal research using shift-specific assessments of sleep and need for recovery are needed to confirm these results.
Practitioner Summary: Chronotype seems to better explain individual differences in sleep than age. In view of ageing societies, it might therefore be worthwhile to further examine the application of chronotype for individualised shift work schedules to facilitate healthy and sustainable employment. 相似文献

Abstract ‘Artificial Intelligence for Technology’ (T396) is a distance learning course provided by the Open University of the UK using face‐to‐face tutorials. In 1997 a pilot study was undertaken of a computer‐mediated communication (CMC) tutor group which consisted of volunteers from around the UK. The student feedback raised a number of issues including: the need for a distinct function for the tutor group conference, the role of and demands on the tutor, and the benefits perceived by students. It is suggested that some issues arise from a conflict of cultures each with their own implicit assumptions. The traditional face‐to‐face tutorial model is sometimes at variance with the demands of the new CMC based tuition. 相似文献
