The theme Smart Transport can be described as adequate human-system symbiosis to realize effective, efficient and human-friendly transport of goods and information. This paper addresses how to attune automation to human (cognitive) capacities (e.g. to take care of information uncertainty, operator trust and mutual man-machine adaptations). An introduction to smart transport is presented, including examples of best practice for engineering human factors in the vehicle ergonomics and train traffic control domain. The examples are representative of an ongoing trend in automation and they show how the human role changes from controller to supervisor. Section 2 focuses on the car driver and systems that support, or sometimes even take over, critical parts of the driving task. Due to the diversity of driver ability, driving context and dependence between driver and context factors, there is a need for personalised, adaptive and integrated support. Systematic research is needed to establish sound systems. Section 3 focuses on the train dispatcher support systems that predict train movements, detect potential conflicts and show the dispatcher the possibilities available to solve the detected problems. Via thorough analysis of both the process to be controlled and the dispatcher's tasks and cognitive needs, support functions were developed as part of an already very complex supervision and control system. The two examples, although from a different field, both show the need for further development in cognitive modelling as well as for the value of sound ergonomics task analysis in design practice. 相似文献

Knowledge engineering stems from E. A. Figenbaum's proposal in 1977, but it will enter a new decade with the new challenges. This paper first summarizes three knowledge engineering experiments we have undertaken to show possibility of separating knowledge development from intelligent software development. We call it the ICAX mode of intelligent application software generation. The key of this mode is to generate knowledge base, which is the source of intelligence of ICAX software, independently and parallel to intelligent software development. That gives birth to a new and more general concept "knowware". Knowware is a commercialized knowledge module with documentation and intellectual property, which is computer operable, but free of any built-in control mechanism, meeting some industrial standards and embeddable in software/hardware. The process of development, application and management of knowware is called knowware engineering. Two different knowware life cycle models are discussed: the furnace model and the crystallization model. Knowledge middleware is a class of software functioning in all aspects of knowware life cycle models. Motif analysis for automatic segmentation of CT surface contours into individual surface features 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This paper presents a new layer-based technique for automatic high-level segmentation of 3-D surface contours into individual surface features through motif analysis. The procedure starts from a contour-based surface model representing a composite surface area of an object. For each of the surface contours, a relative turning angle (RTA) map is derived. The RTA map usually contains noise and minor features. Algorithms based on motif analysis are applied for extracting a main profile of the RTA map free from background noise and other minor features. All feature points on the extracted profile are further identified from the extracted main profile through further motif analysis. The original contour is thus partitioned into individual segments with the identified feature points. A collection of consecutive contour segments among different layers form an individual 3-D surface feature of the original composite surface. The developed approach using motif analysis is particularly useful for the identification of smooth joins between individual surface features and for the elimination of superposed noise and unwanted minor features. 相似文献

Knowledge-base V&V primarily addresses the question: “Does my knowledge-base contain the right answer and can I arrive at it?” One of the main goals of our work is to properly encapsulate the knowledge representation and allow the expert to work with manageable-sized chunks of the knowledge-base. This work develops a new methodology for the verification and validation of Bayesian knowledge-bases that assists in constructing and testing such knowledge-bases. Assistance takes the form of ensuring that the knowledge is syntactically correct, correcting “imperfect” knowledge, and also identifying when the current knowledge-base is insufficient as well as suggesting ways to resolve this insufficiency. The basis of our approach is the use of probabilistic network models of knowledge. This provides a framework for formally defining and working on the problems of uncertainty in the knowledge-base.
