Coal fly ash is a waste by-product of the coal fire industry, which generates many environmental problems. Alternative uses of this material would provide efficient solutions for this by-product. In this work, nitric acid-etched coal fly ash labelled with 2-mercaptoethanol or thioglycolic acid was assessed for retention of Al(III), As(III), Cu(II), Cd(II), Fe(III), Mn(II), Hg(II), Ni(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) ions. The bonding characteristics between the organic compounds with the solid support, as well as with the metal ions, were evaluated using various surface analytical techniques. Visualization of the organically-functionalized coal fly ash particle was possible using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the elemental composition of the functionalized material, before and after retention of the metal ions, was obtained by energy dispersive (ED)-X ray spectrometry (XRS) and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry and Raman spectrometry were used to obtain information about the functional groups. It was found that some metal(oid) ions (As, Ni, Pb, Zn) were coordinated through the mercaptan group, while other metal(oid)s (Al, Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn) were apparently bonded to oxygen atoms. A low-cost and effective solid phase retention system for extraction of heavy metals from aqueous solutions was thus developed. 相似文献

Solution cast technique is employed to prepare solid polymer electrolyte films based on chitosan (host polymer) and silver triflate (AgCF3SO3, doping salt) using (1%) acetic acid as a common solvent. The effect of salt concentration on both EP and bulk materials dielectric properties has been analyzed. Physically the original relationship between the bulk dielectric constant and DC conductivity has been interpreted. It is demonstrated that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss values decrease at higher temperatures due to the reduction of silver ions. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) indicate the presence of metallic silver particles. The ac conductivity spectra shows three distinct regions and obeys the Jonscher's power law at high frequency regions. The temperature dependence of frequency exponent (s) shows the crossover from CBH model to SP model. 相似文献

A new non-destructive tool is presented, enabling the measurement of locked-in residual strains in semi-crystalline polymer-based components. The technique employs high-energy synchrotron X-rays to probe the variation of diffraction angle within a well-defined ‘gauge volume’ with a spatial resolution of the order of 1 mm. Lattice strain is calculated from the diffraction angles.An overview of the experimental methodology and underlying principles involved in the non-destructive evaluation of residual strain in polymer-based components is given. Preliminary results show that synchrotron X-rays can be used successfully to measure the internal elastic residual strain field in polymer components, being potentially applicable to other materials. During its first 2 years of operation, the gamma-ray AGILE satellite accumulated an extensive dataset for the Galactic plane. The data have been monitored for transient sources and several gamma-ray sources were detected. Their variability and possible association were studied. In this talk we will focus on the results of extensive observations of the Carina Region during the time period 2007 July–2009 January, for a total livetime of 130 days. The region is extremely complex, hosting massive star formation, with the remarkable colliding wind binary Eta Carinae, massive star clusters and HII regions (e.g. NGC 3324, RCW49, Westerlund II) and a giant molecular cloud extending over 150 pc (between l=284.7 and 289). The Carina Nebula itself is the largest and IR highest surface brightness nebula of the Southern emisphere. We monitored several gamma ray sources in the Carina Region. In particular we detect a gamma ray source (1AGL J1043-5931) consistent with the position of Eta Carinae and report a remarkable 2-days gamma-ray flaring episode from this source on 2008 October 11–13. If 1AGL J1043-5931 is associated with the Eta Car system, our data provide the long sought first detection above 100 MeV of a colliding wind binary. 相似文献

We developed a novel approach to prepare Ni–Au composite nanoparticles using synchrotron radiation X-rays. Ni–Au particles dispersed in aqueous solutions were synthesized with two different irradiation strategies. The first is by exposing to X-rays a mixed electroless solution of Ni and Au at two different temperatures, trying to nucleate Ni nanoparticles homogeneously at room temperature and to deposit Au subsequently on them at the high temperature of 70 °C. The second strategy is to change the pH value of the mixed solution, directly leading to the formation of Ni–Au nanoparticles. In both cases, the Ni–Au composite nanoparticles were successfully formed, as confirmed by the observed ferromagnetic behavior and by the evolution of the Au surface plasmon resonance band. 相似文献

This paper presents for the first time a method for the accurate segmentation of complex (multi-phase) natural aggregate particles, from greyscale backscattered electron images (BEI) of hardened concrete, so that interfacial porosity may be measured. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectra are collected from phases present in aggregate particles to identify the most abundant and therefore useful elements to be captured during later mapping. Appropriately captured energy dispersive X-ray dot maps are used to progressively construct a multi-phase composite aggregate binary mask, for aggregate particles composed of more than one mineral. The mask image is then re-processed in combination with the backscattered image, to produce an accurate hardened cement paste (HCP) porosity mask, which is used to measure the distribution of interfacial porosity around aggregate particles. 相似文献

The possibilities of common non-destructive measuring techniques are reviewed in this paper for their applications in precision engineering. The grazing X-ray technique is believed to be a powerful improvement of the conventional X-ray techniques under both the diffraction mode and the fluorescent mode. Information of the crystallographic structure and chemical composition can be obtained to a nanometre resolution. Ultrasound can be used in scanning acoustic microscopy to give information on the physical or even chemical nature of superficial layers. Raman spectroscopy has now become an important tool for studying superficial structures, chemical composition and stresses in cyrstalline and amorphous materials: it is recommended to use this method especially for the investigation of monocrystalline silicon and germanium. The instrumented microindentation technique is a quasi- non-destructive technique for evaluating mechanical material properties like hardness and Young's modulus in a nanometre range. It can be used on any material that does not require special surroundings like a vacuum. Photothermal microscopy has been developed recently for the non-destructive testing of the local thermal properties of materials. By using the Mirage effect and its local measurement above the surface, a non-destructive depth profiling of surface damages can be obtained. 相似文献
