Alternative Economics and Sustainable Future: Diverse Cultures/Beliefs/Values as Indispensable Factors

This article argues for a theoretical framework of alternative economics pertinent to Sustainable Development. The alternative economics requires an appropriate belief/value system based on a dynamic, sound and holistic society-specific culture (abbreviated as “Culture”). To represent the Culture-based belief/value system, a general framework for overarching Integral Harmony is introduced as an appropriate social value system for a paradigm shift toward sustainability. Such a social value system is now related to the value premises of the alternative economics. Then, the framework of alternative economics is explained in terms of basic theoretical construct that is simplified as a summary equation comprising value and real aspects. Finally, a typical working of the alternative economics is demonstrated diagrammatically as constant interactions of the value aspect and the real aspect (abbreviated as “Value-Real Interactions”).     

Type IV culture or,is it possible to define a framework for universal creativity?

ABSTRACT

The radical limit of post-anthropocentric creativity is a mode of completely nonhuman creative endeavour. Yet, the anthropocentrism prevails and conceptions of radically different civilisations and cultures are defined by current human thought that shapes and limits the understanding of what a genuinely alternative cultural production might entail. This article uses the Kardashev scale of civilisations, classified according to energy consumption at the planetary, stellar and galactic scales to consider culture beyond the current limits of an inherently anthropocentric perspective. In considering microdimensional, informational and universal extensions of Kardashev's scale, critical reflections on the anthropocentric limits of cultural epistemology create an opportunity to posit a universal framework of creativity.

Investigating Knowledge Management Factors Affecting Chinese ICT Firms Performance: An Integrated KM Framework

This article sets out to investigate the critical factors of Knowledge Management (KM) which are considered to have an impact on the performance of Chinese information and communication technology (ICT) firms. This study confirms that the cultural environment of an enterprise is central to its success in the context of China. It shows that a collaborated, trusted, and learning environment within ICT firms will have a positive impact on their KM performance.     

Memes in a Digital World: Reconciling with a Conceptual Troublemaker

This paper re‐examines the concept of “meme” in the context of digital culture. Defined as cultural units that spread from person to person, memes were debated long before the digital era. Yet the Internet turned the spread of memes into a highly visible practice, and the term has become an integral part of the netizen vernacular. After evaluating the promises and pitfalls of memes for understanding digital culture, I address the problem of defining memes by charting a communication‐oriented typology of 3 memetic dimensions: content, form, and stance. To illustrate the utility of the typology, I apply it to analyze the video meme “Leave Britney Alone.” Finally, I chart possible paths for further meme‐oriented analysis of digital content.
