Reviews the book, Career counseling: A narrative approach by Larry Cochran (2000). This book introduces a narrative approach to career counselling. The author specifically makes the distinction that this is a counselling approach, not a career development theory. A narrative approach invites counsellors to make their career interventions with clients more personal. In contrast to the traditional objective emphasis in career counselling, this is a subjective approach that emphasizes meaning and meaning-making. Cochran characterizes the central task of career counselling as "emplotment" rather than matching. Emplotment involves casting the individual as the main character in a career narrative that is meaningful, productive, and fulfilling. The book is intended for scholars, professionals, and graduate students who already have some familiarity with counselling and career development. It is presumed that the reader has at least some knowledge and skill in counselling. At the end of each chapter, there are exercises that enable the reader to apply the principles and concepts outlined in the chapter. A client situation is described, and several questions are used to guide the reader. Overall, this book is a welcome addition to the career literature. Indeed, the approach need not only be used in counselling involving work or occupational problems. Meaning-making and narrative concepts can be applied to any and all issues in people's lives. Researchers from diverse psychological subdisciplines have increasingly turned their attention to the storied aspect of human thought. Narrative processing and autobiographical reasoning are 2 forms of this conscious thought. Narrative processing is the tendency to create thought units that use vivid imagery, sequential plots, characters, and salient goals. Autobiographical reasoning consists of interpreting and evaluating remembered experiences. Both forms of thought are discussed in D. P. McAdams's (see record 2001-06545-002) personality theory and D. B. Pillemer's (see record 2001-06545-003) cognitive research. S. Bluck and T. Habermas (see record 2001-06545-004) highlight developmental aspects of narrative processing and autobiographical reasoning, particularly in adolescent identity formation. U. M. Staudinger (see record 2001-06545-005) illustrates how autobiographical reasoning about memories and life stories serves as a springboard for wisdom at different stages of the life cycle. 目的提出疫情数据可视化叙事设计的方法,在疫情数据信息传播过程中,叙事设计为民众提供了易懂易记的数据信息,更好地解决了从数据感知到对数据认知以及产生行为反应等一系列问题。方法从疫情传播数据可视化对民众产生的影响进行分析,将目前传染病领域数据可视化设计的特点和不足进行归纳。对疫情数据进行叙事化结构解析,融入故事化的叙述流程,形成连续性的思维路径。充分调动民众的情绪和参与性,形成适应于疫情传播数据可视化设计的参考方法。结论以新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情为例,对疫情数据可视化叙事设计的五个主要活动方面:挖掘数据、明确目的、了解受众、叙事类型以及视觉呈现进行介绍。叙事化设计可以有效帮助民众认知疫情,从而更好地预防、把控和阻止疫情蔓延。  相似文献

目的创建一种叙述中国古代诗词意境的产品的设计方法,使通过借鉴该方法设计的产品能够引起使用者对于相应的诗词意境的共鸣,为其提供感情寄托,从而达到理想的产品效益——商业价值的实现与中国传统文化的弘扬。方法基于已有的产品叙事设置方法与流程,分析与判断中国古代诗词意境作为叙事主题的可行性,制定一种专用于中国古代诗词意境表达的产品叙事设置步骤:确立诗词与主题分析—载体产品形式选择—主题文本向叙述文本的转化—产品物化设计。结论中国古代诗词意境作为叙事主题文本来源是可行的。该设计方法一方面在一定程度上满足了相关设计需求,另一方面扩展了产品叙事设置的主题选择空间,为以后的专题设计提供了设计步骤参考。  相似文献

In this literacy narrative, I describe the contexts and consequences of print and digital literacies in a globalizing world. Through a combination of personal and contextual details, I show how cultural, linguistic, and political milieus shape and are shaped by the literate practices in the digital environment. I also complicate issues of access and the digital divide and conclude by making a case for understanding cultural background vis-à-vis political history in order to understand individual literacy practices of students/writers.  相似文献

Language competence, narrative ability, and school readiness were examined in 25 low-income preschool children attending day care. Participants were assessed for language competence (PPVT-R), school readiness (Early Development Instrument), and completed stories based on everyday household events (MacArthur Story Stem Battery). Each story was coded for the level of chronology, organization, and number of information units. Children who had higher levels of language competence and school readiness generated narratives that were chronologically ordered and well organized. Story-telling may be an important means to understanding children's overall competence and coping ability, as well as a critical skill in the day care and future school environment. In 4 experiments, the author explored the spontaneous construction of spatial situation models during discourse comprehension by using the sentence-recognition paradigm of J. D. Bransford, J. R. Barclay, and J. J. Franks (1972). In Experiment 1, signaling causal relevance of spatial relations was a necessary precondition for replicating their original finding of spontaneously constructed spatial representations. Causal relevance was ensured in the subsequent experiments by a judgment task indirectly demanding the evaluation of described spatial relations with regard to causal relevance. Participants spontaneously constructed spatial situation models of text presented auditorily or visually. Effects of spontaneous construction were more reliable when encoding was easier. The results suggest a revised interpretation of J. D. Bransford et al.'s study and corroborate recent evidence showing that relevant spatial information in texts is reliably represented.
