Sequential Compatibility Effects and Cognitive Control: Does Conflict Really Matter?

Although it is widely accepted that control mechanisms are necessary for human behavior to be adapted, very little is known about how such mechanisms are recruited. A suggestion to fill the gap was put forward by M. M. Botvinick, T. S. Braver, C. S. Carter, D. M. Barch, and J. D. Cohen (2001), who proposed the conflict-loop theory. This theory has been successful in accounting for the reduction of compatibility effects after an incompatible trial: The level of conflict being, on average, higher during an incompatible trial, more control occurs after such a trial. The authors have tested this prediction by sorting the trials on the basis of amount of conflict (quantified by the electromyographic activity) they presented. A reduction of the compatibility effect was observed after incompatible trials, but it was independent of the level of conflict on previous trials, suggesting that the conflict does not trigger changes in executive control. Control System of Neutral Beam Injection on HT-7

Neutral Beam Injection control system (NBICS) is constructed to measure the plasma current, Magnet current, vacuum pressure, cryopump temperature, control water cooling, filament voltage, and power supply， etc. The NBICS, consisting mainly of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) subsystem, data acquisition and processing subsystem and cryopump and vacuum pressure monitoring subsystem, has successfully been used on a NBI device. In this article, the design of NBICS on HT-7 is discussed and each subsystem is described in particular.In addition, some experimental results are reported which are very important data for further research related to the HT-7 tokamak.     

Lessons learned from the U.S. nuclear power Plant on-line monitoring programs

The investigation and application of on-line monitoring programs has been ongoing for over two decades by the U.S. nuclear industry and researchers. To this date, only limited pilot installations have been demonstrated and the original objectives have changed significantly. Much of the early work centered on safety critical sensor calibration monitoring and reduction. The current focus is on both sensor and equipment monitoring. This paper presents the major lessons learned that contributed to the lengthy development process including model development and implementation issues, and the results of a recently completed cost benefit analysis.     

Application of advanced core process monitoring procedures in German power reactors

The nuclear reactor core design and the nuclear fuel management have been changed remarkable during the last few years. This development was initiated by increasing costs for the fuel recycling and nuclear waste storage. The fuel material, the fuel pellet fabrication, the fuel assembly structure and the core composition have been varied to get an effective fuel exploitation. Based on advanced core process conditions the reactor power and the fuel burn-up have been increased at German plants in recent years. Improved dynamic process monitoring procedures are required to get more information about the varied core process behaviour during the reactor operation. Since several years ISTec has been performed investigations to the process monitoring based on process signal measurements in German nuclear power plants. Using the standard instrumentation of the plants process signals have been measured and analysed by means of the digital data acquisition system SIGMA. The measured time signals are influenced by core process transients, global and local process fluctuations and by signal line transfer functions. Advanced time series analysis methods have been applied to separate different process effects in the multiple signal matrix. The separation of different process influences can improve significantly the information about the process condition in the reactor core.
