Distinguished scientific awards for an early career contribution to psychology: Steven Yantis.

Steven Yantis has explored both stimulus-driven and goal-directed determinants of attention. This work has shown that the sudden appearance of new perceptual objects captures attention in a way that very few other visual events do. It has also revealed how mechanisms of perceptual organization interact with attention to yield efficient dynamic selectivity. This article discusses Yantis's life and contributions to psychology. 基于CBSD的科技成果奖励及成果转化数据库系统设计与开发

信息化服务作为我国科技成果转化服务体系的重要部分,在提高科研成果转化率问题上发挥积极有效的作用,但目前仍面临着诸如软件开发周期长、成本高、维护困难、用户间信用度低、系统使用率不高等问题困扰。针对这种情况,本文提出了以历年来获得科技奖励的优秀科研成果信息作为主要数据来源,并基于构件技术产业化开发的科技成果奖励数据库及转化应用系统。该文对其给予总体设计思路,并详细介绍了数据库系统的需求分析,开发工具、基于CBSD技术过程方法,接口设计;并简要概述了如何降低数据输入工作量、科研成果供需双方信用度评估、系统信息安全问题的解决办法。实验结果表明,该系统比以往同类系统更便于使用者的理解和应用,实现即插即用,利于系统的维护,延长系统软件的生命周期,便于挖掘成果之间隐藏转化关系,有效地促进科研成果的应用转化。

Presents the 2002 American Psychological Association (APA) award winners. In accordance with established custom, the APA bestows annual awards in recognition of outstanding contributions by psychologists across an array of domains. The awards laud distinguished contributions to the advancement of science, applications of psychological knowledge to clinical and social issues, to education and training, and to work devoted to international cooperation and humanitarian ideals. American Psychological Foundation Awards for 1973: Gold Medal, Distinguished Contributions to Education in Psychology, and the National Media.

On August 28, 1973, at the annual meeting of the APA in Montreal, the American Psychological Foundation announced the recipients of the Gold Medal Award, the Distinguished Contributions to Education in Psychology Awards, and the National Media Awards. The presentations were made by Henry W. Riecken, President of the American Psychological Foundation (APF). Harry F. Harlow received the Gold Medal Award; James B. Maas and Frank J. McGuigan were given the Teaching Awards; and Gerald Jonas, ABC News and Jules Power Productions, the Great Atlantic Radio Conspiracy, Christine Darg, and Elliott Aronson were the recipients of the National Media Awards. Other members of the APF are Nicholas Hobbs, Gardner Lindzey (Vice-President}, Boris E. Cherney (Treasurer), George Miller, George Albee, William Bevan, Kenneth B. Little (Secretary), Kenneth B. Rochel S. Gelman: Early Career Award.

Recognizes the receipt of the American Psychological Association's 1976 Early Career Award by Rochel S. Gelman. The award citation reads: "For her outstanding contributions to our understanding of the early development of number knowledge and skills, of the important role of attentional processes in the child's cognitive performance and cognitive growth, and, with Marilyn Shatz, of the young child's ability to adapt his communication behavior to the information processing capacities of his listener in certain situations. Her research has compelled developmental psychologists to rethink the processes that might underlie the child's basic understanding of important concepts, as well as the processes that might influence the child's ability to use that understanding in specific task contexts." Starke R. Hathaway: Distinguished Contribution for Applications in Psychology Award for 1977.

Starke R. Hathaway was presented with a Distinguished Contribution for Applications in Psychology Award for his contributions to clinical psychology, which began in 1937 when he helped to organize the new University of Minnesota Hospitals Psychopathic Unit, having its primary commitment to research. Simultaneously, he began (with J. C. McKinley) to build the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, now the most thoroughly researched (over 6,000 publications) and widely used structured personality test. Equally important was his gently probing Socratic intellectual influence on graduate students, who often became leading teachers, researchers, practitioners, and administrators, spreading the influential 'Minnesota viewpoint'-- skeptical, empirical, quantitative, biological, tough-minded, and emphasizing the cognitive and existential aspects of psychotherapy years before their general acceptance.
