The success of screening for individuals at suicidal risk among the general population relies heavily on the availability of a reliable and validated instrument. However, there remains a lack of a well-validated screening tool for suicidal risk in Chinese, despite the fact that about a quarter of the world's suicides takes place in China. In view of the severity of the suicide problem among the Chinese population, there is a crucial need to develop robust screening tools locally. This study investigates the psychometric properties related to the Chinese version of the Adult Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (ASIQ) with a 2-wave, population-based panel study in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People's Republic of China. Two-thousand sixteen Chinese people were interviewed for their suicidality, psychological well-being, and ASIQ scores. The Chinese ASIQ was shown to have strong internal reliability, convergent validity, and factorial validity. This study also demonstrated its predictive validity by examining sensitivity and specificity in identifying subsequent suicidality. A 4-item short version of ASIQ was also developed. Adult strepsirrhines have been completely neglected in the study of animal play. I focused on adult play fighting and the role of tail-play as a signal in ringtailed lemurs (Lemur catta). Tail-play is performed during play fighting, when lemurs anoint or, more rarely, wave their tails toward the playmate. During the prereproductive period, male and female lemurs engaged in play fighting with comparable frequencies, as was expected to occur in monomorphic species such as L. catta. The dyads showing low aggression rates engaged most frequently in play fighting, and polyadic play was frequently performed. Signals seem to be important in avoiding escalation to real aggression, especially when the playfulness of performers can be misunderstood by recipients. Tail-play was most frequent (a) in the dyads with low grooming rates (low familiarity degree) and (b) during the most risky play sessions (polyadic ones). To better understand the origins of autonomic reactivity during marital interactions, this study examined the psychophysiological profiles of prototypically secure (vs. insecure) and deactivating (vs. hyperactivating) adults while they talked about areas of disagreement with their (pre)marital partners. Adults who idealized their caregivers and/or normalized harsh childhood experiences during the Adult Attachment Interview (i.e., deactivating adults) manifested heightened electrodermal reactivity, a sign of emotional inhibition, while attempting to resolve conflict in their relationships, whereas individuals who became angrily or passively caught up while discussing their early lives (i.e., hyperactivating adults) later showed increases in heart rate while conversing with their partners, suggesting behavioral activation. In contrast, security was associated with low levels of electrodermal change from baseline in the context of this normatively mild marital stressor. The primary purpose of this project is the standardization of the WAIS for older groups. A probability sample of the population of Kansas City was drawn and 475 persons, aged 60 and over, were given all the Verbal tests. For approximately 25% of these cases, one or more of the performance tests could not be used for various reasons. In addition to the standardization data, it was found that a) additional time makes very little difference in the scores; and b) the differences between the sexes on the WAIS were quite small. In general, the decline of verbal abilities with age is relatively small until about age 70. The decline in Performance measures is somewhat greater. Objective: To examine the clinical value of two 7-subtest versions of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-III (WAIS-111): one using Block Design (WAIS-III/BD7) and another using Matrix Reasoning (WAIS-III/MR7) among persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Study Design: Actual obtained scores from the full WAIS-111 were compared with scores that would have been obtained using each of the two abbreviated versions. Participants: One hundred eighteen persons with TBI tested consecutively in an academic medical center outpatient neuropsychology laboratory. Results: For the WAIS-IIVBD7, corrected validity coefficients were .97 (Verbal IQ [VIQI), .94 (Performance IQ [PIQ]), and .97 (Full Scale IQ [FSIQJ); 92%, 70%, and 92% of scores fell within 5 points of full version scores for VIQ, PIQ, and FSIQ, respectively. WAIS-III/MR7 corrected validity coefficients were .97 (VIQ), .95 (PIQ), and .97 (FSIQ); 92%, 76%, and 92% of short-form scores were within 5 points of actual scores for VIQ, PIQ, and FSIQ, respectively. Conclusions: Both abbreviated versions demonstrated acceptable psychometric characteristics, but the matrix reasoning version may be more advantageous in assessing persons with TBI because it can be used with persons who have TBI-related motor skills impairment. The purpose of our research was to examine the influence of an online protocol on asynchronous discussions. A mixed-methods study compared two online graduate classes: one that used a protocol and one that did not use a protocol for the same discussion about a complex reading. Analysis of the data revealed that the online protocol more evenly distributed the presence of cognitive, social, and teaching elements necessary to create and sustain an online community of inquiry. Use of the protocol also promoted more shared group cognition and more student ownership of the discussion and empowered students to facilitate themselves, helping to reduce the instructor workload. These findings may enable educators to provide more dynamic interaction and richer learning experiences in asynchronous online environments.  相似文献
