The evolution and maintenance of large-scale software systems requires first an understanding of its architecture before delving
into lower-level details. Tools facilitating the architecture comprehension tasks by visualization provide different sets
of configurable, graphical elements to present information to their users. We conducted a controlled experiment that exemplifies
the critical role of such graphical elements when aiming at understanding the architecture. In our setting, a different configuration
of graphical elements had significant influence on program comprehension tasks. In particular, a 63% gain in effectiveness
in architectural analysis tasks was achieved simply by changing the configuration of the graphical elements of the same tool.
Based on the results, we claim that significant effort should be spent on the configuration of architecture visualization
tools and that configurability should be a requirement for such tools.

He has been involved in the definition, development, and transfer of Fraunhofer PuLSE (Product Line Software Engineering) methodology since 1997. Further, he leads the research and technology transfer in the area of “Software and Systems Architecture”. He received a diploma in computer science, as well as a Ph.D., from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. Matthias Naab is an engineer at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE). He works in the areas of software- and system architectures and product lines. This study focuses on an emulsion as a new thermal storage material for ice storage. Two types of emulsions were formed using an oil–water mixture with a small amount of additive. A silicone, light and lump oils were used. The water contents of the emulsions were 70, 80 and 90%. The additive was an amino group modified silicone oil. No depression of freezing point was observed for the emulsions because of their hydrophobic properties. In order to determine the structure of the emulsions, their electrical resistances were measured. Moreover, components of the liquids separating from the emulsions were analyzed. The results indicated that one emulsion was a W/O type emulsion, while the other was an O/W type. Finally, adaptability of the two emulsions to ice storage was discussed, it was concluded that a high performance ice slurry could be formed by the W/O type emulsion. 相似文献

An experimental evaluation of insulation effectiveness, pull-down times and effectiveness of a mechanical refrigeration unit was performed on five refrigerated panel vans. Additionally, a mapping of temperature variability in the cargo space was carried out during a simulated journey encompassing several door openings. The temperature variability measured in the vans was neither correlated to the effectiveness of the insulation nor the time required to achieve complete cooling of the cargo space. These criteria are common thermal performance indicators used to evaluate refrigerated vehicles in international standards. The efficiency of insulation was correlated to the pull-down times, presenting the possibility of calculating the former as a function of the latter. The temperature variability was correlated with the time required for the unit to recover temperature control after a door opening and the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures reached during a door opening cycle. 相似文献

A detailed transmission electron microscope (TEM) study has been conducted to investigate the microstructures of the Zr51Cu20.7Ni12Al16.3 metallic glass formed at different cooling rates. It has been found that the most competitive crystalline phase to the amorphous structure is an oxygen-stabilized FCC NiZr2-type phase, which in turn acts as the leading phase to trigger the formation of other crystalline phases in the slow-cooled alloy. 相似文献
