Single-walled carbon nanotube networks grown on SiO2 pillars were studied by means of scanning photoemission microscopy. The individual nanotubes or nanotube bundles growing from the pillar tops were observed in C 1s images. Band bending near catalytic Fe/nanotube contacts in an end-bonded configuration was studied by measuring C 1s spectra along the tube axes. Within our experimental resolution, no band bending was observed. This implies that the depletion width is less than the spatial resolution of the scanning photoemission microscope (90 nm) or that the amount of the band bending is less than 0.1 eV. 相似文献

High styrene rubber ionomers were prepared by sulfonating styrene–butadiene rubber of high styrene content (high styrene rubber) in 1,2‐dichloroethane using acetyl sulfate reagent, followed by neutralization of the precursor acids using methanolic zinc acetate. The ionomers were characterized using X‐ray fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and also by the evaluation of mechanical properties. The FTIR studies of the ionomer reveal that the sulfonate groups are attached to the benzene ring. The NMR spectra give credence to this observation. Results of DMA show an ionic transition (Ti) in addition to glass–rubber transition (Tg). Incorporation of ionic groups results in improved mechanical properties as well as retention of properties after three cycles of processing. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The tensile properties of polypropylene (PP) filled with hollow glass beads have been measured at room temperature to identify the effects of the particle contents, size and its distribution on them in the present article. The mean diameters of the fillers were 11, 35, and 70 μm, and they were named as TK10, TK35, and TK70 respectively. The surface of these particles was pretreated with silane coupling agent. The results showed that the yield stress (σy) decreased gently for PP/TK70 systems, whereas decreased relatively obviously for PP/TK35 systems with increasing the volume fraction (?f) of the fillers. When ?f was less than 5%, the tensile strength at break (σb) of the composites increased with the increase of ?f. When ?f was more than 5%, σb was almost a constant for PP/TK70 systems, while σb decreased linearly for PP/TK35 systems. The tensile fracture strain (εb) of the composites decreased suddenly when ?f was less than 5%, and then decreased slightly with increasing ?f. When ?f was 10%, σy and σb increased while εb decreased with the increase of the bead diameter. Furthermore, the σy was predicted by means an equation proposed in the previous work, and good interfacial adhesion was shown between the hollow glass beads and the matrix. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Rheological and electrical properties of the polycarbonate (PC)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) were studied. The MWNT was funtoinalized by treating with the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The H2O2 treated MWNT was dried by thermal and freeze drying methods. From the morphological studies, the degree of entanglement of the MWNT was decreased after treating with the H2O2. For the H2O2 treated MWNT (thermal drying), the length of the MWNT was shortened compared that of the H2O2 treated MWNT (freeze drying). The rheological and electrical properties of the PC/MWNT (H2O2 treated) composites increased compared that of the PC/MWNT (untreated) composites. Also, the electrical conductivity showed higher value for the PC/MWNT (H2O2 treated, freeze drying) composites compared that of the PC/MWNT (H2O2 treated, thermal drying) composites. From the results of the morphological, rheological, and electrical properties of the PC/MWNT composites, it is suggested that the electrical and rheological properties of the PC/MWNT composites are affected by the MWNT-MWNT network structure, which is related with the MWNT morphologies such as the degree of aggregation and aspect ratio of the MWNT. 相似文献

Nitrogen transformations occurring in ten soils fertilized with urea were determined during incubation in the laboratory for four weeks. Urea was applied at one rate, but with different placement methods. Urea was applied in solution, as prills with a 1 cm grid spacing and as prills with no spacing. Unfertilized soils and soils amended with KNO3 solution were included as controls.Nitrite accumulated in the majority of soils treated with urea, and the maximum nitrite concentration measured was directly related to initial soil pH. Cumulative gaseous N losses as percentages of applied N were: NH3, 0-59.6; N2, 0-4.9; N2O, 0-9.9; KMnO4-N, 0-1.3; CH3ONO, 0-<0.1. No gaseous N evolution was detected in control treatments. Resumo Foram determinadas, durante incubação em laboratório por quatro semanas, as transformações do nitrogênio ocorridas em dez solos fertilizados com uréia. A uréia foi aplicada a um só nivel, mas com diferentes métodos de aplicação: em solução e em grânulos com 1 cm de espaçamento de grade e em grânulos sem espaçamento. Solos não fertilizados e solos corrigidos com solução de KNO3 foram incluidos como controles.O nitrito acumulado na maioria dos solos tratados com uréia e a concentração máxima de nitrito medido foram diretamente relacionados ao pH inicial do solo. As perdas cumulativas de N gasoso tomadas em percentagens de N aplicado foram: NH3, 0-59.6; N2, 0-4.9; N2O; 0-9.9; KMnO4-N, 0-1.3; CH3ONO, 0-<0.1. Não foi detectada liberação de N gasoso nos tratamentos de controle. As perdas de N gasoso foram relacionadas com o pH do solo (NH3), concentração máxima de NO 2 - (N2, N2O, KMnO4-N) e teor de C orgânico (N2, N2O). Efeitos da aplicação de fertilizante não foram de um modo geral significativos e foram pequenos em comparação com as diferenças entre os solos.相似文献

The objectives of this research article is to evaluate the mechanical and tribological properties of glass‐fiber‐reinforced epoxy (G–E) composites with and without graphite particulate filler. The laminates were fabricated by a dry hand layup technique. The mechanical properties, including tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break, and surface hardness, were investigated in accordance with ASTM standards. From the experimental investigation, we found that the tensile strength and dimensional stability of the G–E composite increased with increasing graphite content. The effect of filler content (0–7.5 wt %) and sliding distance on the friction and wear behavior of the graphite‐filled G–E composite systems were studied. Also, conventional weighing, determination of the coefficient of friction, and examination of the worn surface morphological features by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were done. A marginal increase in the coefficient of friction with sliding distance for the unfilled composites was noticed, but a slight reduction was noticed for the graphite‐filled composites. The 7.5% graphite‐filled G–E composite showed a lower friction coefficient for the sliding distances used. The wear loss of the composites decreased with increasing weight fraction of graphite filler and increased with increasing sliding distance.
