Sidney Leavitt Pressey: American Psychological Foundation Gold Medal Award.

Presents the citation of the 1970 American Psychological Foundation's Gold Medal Award winner, Sidney Leavitt Pressey. As is custom, Dr. Pressey received a gold medal and a scroll with this citation: "To Sidney L. Pressey--ground breaker in psychology; man of capacious mind, inventive spirit, humane concern, and rare good humor; investigator and interpreter of the human life span whose own life has greatly enriched the field of psychology and the lives of his students." American Psychological Foundation Gold Medal Award: 1968.

The Gold Medal Award is given to an American psychologist in recognition of a distinguished and long-continued record of scientific and scholarly accomplishments. The Award is limited to psychologists 65 years of age or older and to those residing in North America. At the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association in 1968, the American Psychological Foundation (APF) announced the recipient of the APF Gold Medal Award. Lorrin A. Riggs.

Presents the biography and lists the scientific publications of Lorrin A. Riggs, a recipient of the award for Distinguished Scientific Contribution in 1974. For his many basic and incisive studies of human vision. His ingenious contact lens electrode made possible the first reliable quantitative correlations of a subject's electroretinogram with his psychophysical responses. By another adaptation of the contact lens, he obtained highly precise and quantitative measures of both voluntary and involuntary eye movements, the latter proving to be essential for the maintenance of vision. His further electrophysiological studies of human peripheral color receptors and their concurrent evoked cortical responses laid the groundwork for his most recent studies of the color and form "channels" of the human perceptual system. Edwin E. Ghiselli: Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award.

Recognizes the receipt of the American Psychological Association's 1972 Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award by Edwin E. Ghiselli. The award citation reads: "A remarkably multifaceted set of distinguished contributions spanning a 40-year career. He began his scientific life as a neurophysiological psychologist and, in the absence of an established literature or technology to guide him, pioneered in the study of subcortical mechanisms. He has provided the same definitive guidance in applied psychology. Ghiselli and industrial psychology are virtually synonymous. Few issues concerning the behavior of people at work, from the conceptualization of performance to the measurement of values, have not been touched by his influence. Psychometric theory has also felt his impact. No one can approach a problem in psychological prediction without taking into account his work on prediction models. A survey of Quality Engineering–Management journals by bibliometric indicators

This paper analyses some of the most popular scientific journals in the Quality field from the point of view of three bibliometric indicators: the Hirsch (h) index for journals, the total number of citations and the h‐spectrum. In particular, h‐spectrum is a novel tool based on h, making it possible to (i) identify a reference profile of the typical authors of a journal; (ii) compare different journals; and (iii) provide a rough indication of their ‘bibliometric positioning’ in the scientific community. Results of this analysis can be helpful for guiding potential authors and members of the scientific community in the Quality Engineering/Management area.
