On the use of a multimedia platform for music education with handicapped children: A case study

The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for students with special learning needs is being particularly studied by the research community. Likewise, music has gained recognition through the years in the field of learning disabilities, playing lately a key role in providing a better quality of life to people with special needs. However, there is still a gap on the combination of ICT and music teaching tools. In this work, we present the results of a case study where students with disabilities took a 3-month introductory music course using the multimedia tool called PLAIME (PLAtform for the Integration of handicapped children in Music Education) developed by the same authors. The aims of this work are three-fold: i) to explore the capability of disabled students to acquire musical knowledge using PLAIME, ii) to measure the improvement in their ICT skills, and iii) to observe their behavior along the study. At the end of the program, students showed an advance in their music knowledge and a positive improvement in behavioral development, being able to perfectly manage the computer platform.     

The licensing and safety of older drivers in Britain

Driving licence holding in Britain is increasing for older people, particularly older women. Licence holding by men aged 40–69 has saturated at about 90%, and for women aged 30–59 at about 78%. Drivers begin to surrender licences after age 70. By age 90, 38% of women and 25% of men who held a licence at age 70 have surrendered their licences.     

Demonstrations of implicit anti-fat bias: The impact of providing causal information and evoking empathy.

Three studies investigated implicit biases, and their modifiability, against overweight persons. In Study 1 (N=144), the authors demonstrated strong implicit anti-fat attitudes and stereotypes using the Implicit Association Test, despite no explicit anti-fat bias. When participants were informed that obesity is caused predominantly by overeating and lack of exercise, higher implicit bias relative to controls was produced; informing participants that obesity is mainly due to genetic factors did not result in lower bias. In Studies 2A (N=90) and 2B (N=63), participants read stories of discrimination against obese persons to evoke empathy. This did not lead to lower bias compared with controls but did produce diminished implicit bias among overweight participants, suggesting an in-group bias. 针对汉儒性善情恶、圣人无情的人性论,王弼提出圣人有情说。此说开魏晋南北朝重情抑礼,调和情礼,缘情制礼的新风气,最终催生出了自然主义的教育观。影响所及,直达宋初,主要表现为唐至宋初诗赋取士不可动摇。     

Understanding attention: 12- and 18-month-olds know what is new for other persons.

Infants at 12 and 18 months of age played with 2 adults and 2 new toys. For a 3rd toy, however, 1 of the adults left the room while the child and the other adult played with it. This adult then returned, looked at all 3 toys aligned on a tray, showed great excitement ("Wow! Cool!"), and then asked, "Can you give it to me?" To retrieve the toy the adult wanted, infants had to (a) know that people attend to and get excited about new things and (b) identify what was new for the adult even though it was not new for them. Infants at both ages did this successfully, lending support to the hypothesis that 1-year-old infants possess a genuine understanding of other persons as intentional and attentional agents. 人才创新能力的培养是当今教学改革的核心问题，也是培养高素质人才的重要标志之一。结合巴黎高等电信学校的成功经验和国内综合性大学通信工程专业对培养人才的实际需要，本文提出了一些教学改革的设想和方案设计，并对人才创新能力培养的计划和具体措施进行了较为详细的阐述和说明，对具体课程模块进行了设计和研究，以期对IT领域中的通信人才创新能力培养提供一些参考。
