依靠弯道控导河势流路

在天然河道中，河势演变虽具有一定的随机性，但仍有一定的规律可循，在一个河段内，一般可归纳出2－3条基本流路，为控制河势变化，需要选择出一条基本流路进行河道整治，当连续发生枯水期或洪水期时，部分河段的河势可能出现大的变化，为防止不利河势向下游传播，可修建较长的龙头弯道工程，利用龙头弯道工程分段调整，控导河势，保持河势稳定。     

Norman Joseph Slamecka (1928-2003).

Presents an obituary for Norman J. Slamecka (1928-2003). Slamecka and his wife Jan were killed suddenly in a pedestrian accident on August 2, 2003, in Lewes, Delaware. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War, and after a few years of practice as a clinical psychologist for the Veterans Administration, he accepted a faculty position at the University of Vermont in Burlington. He then taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo for a short while before coming to the University of Toronto in 1970, where he remained until his retirement in 1994. 基于HMM方法的动态手势轨迹训练性能研究

基于HMM(Hidden Markov Model,隐形马尔可夫模型)对动态手势轨迹的训练是手势识别的关键技术之一。本文对HMM的模型训练采用Baum.Welch算法,并分别从迭代次数,样本个数选取,以及模型初值选取等方面对动态手势轨迹的训练性能进行了研究。实验结果表明HMM方法对具有时空特性的动态手势轨迹识别是非常有效的。

Distinctive Features of Minimization of a Risk Functional in Mass Data Sets

A statistical learning model is considered within the framework of the theory of uniform convergence of frequencies of errors in the case where the convergence is violated as a result of increasing the informativeness of training examples. Drawbacks of nonconstructive refinements of Vapnik-Chervonenkis estimates based on an assumption on the distribution law of violations are shown. A new approach to obtaining constructive estimates for mass data sets is proposed.     

Hypnosis and clinical pain.

Hypnosis has been demonstrated to reduce analogue pain, and studies on the mechanisms of laboratory pain reduction have provided useful applications to clinical populations. Studies showing central nervous system activity during hypnotic procedures offer preliminary information concerning possible physiological mechanisms of hypnotic analgesia. Randomized controlled studies with clinical populations indicate that hypnosis has a reliable and significant impact on acute procedural pain and chronic pain conditions, Methodological issues of this body of research are discussed, as are methods to better integrate hypnosis into comprehensive pain treatment. Individual differences in children's event memory reports and the narrative elaboration technique.

Children between 7 and 8 years old took pan in a staged event at school and 1 week later were assessed using a short form of the Wechsler Intelligence scale for children (third edition) and measures of metamemory, narrative ability, and socioeconomic status. Two weeks following the event, children either received narrative elaboration training (NET; K.J. Saywitz & L. Snyder, 1996) and were prompted with the four NET cue cards at interview; received verbal prompts corresponding to the cue card categories, but without prior training; or were presented with the cards at interview without prior training. Children given verbal labels as prompts recalled as much information as children who received NET training and cue cards. Measures of intelligence were predictive of amount recalled for cards-only children but not for the other 2 groups, indicating that differences in recall between low- and high-IQ groups were attenuated when recall was supported by NET training or verbal prompting. Assessment of factors considered to be important in handling tasks by expert handlers

Twenty-eight experienced handlers, considered the best in two transport companies, were interviewed using a questionnaire consisting of partially closed-ended questions. They had to assess 20 videotape handling sequences showing two different handling methods to determine, for 10 factors and overall, which one was the best. They were asked about the inportance of these factors in their choices of the best method. The aims of the study were to verify whether there was a consensus among experienced handlers as to what was a good handling method and to identify the factors taken into consideration by them. Results show the lack of consensus on the best methods. Handlers favor different strategies depending on the worjk context and their own priorities.
