新中国成立七十周年之际,电影《我和我的祖国》与以往主旋律影片主要聚焦于大事件中的重要人物不同,它以独特叙述视角将爱国主义精神融入七个打动人心的故事中,将目光对准了共和国的无名英雄,用“以小见大”的范式深入书写了家国情怀,从而勾起了家国记忆。

Magnetron sputter deposition of A-15 and bcc crystal structure tungsten thin films

The effect of processing parameters on the crystal structure and electrical resistivity of magnetron sputter deposited tungsten thin films was investigated. Formation of body centered cubic (bcc) W was favored when the concentration of impurity oxygen atoms in the films was <5 at.% while the formation of A-15 W was favored between 6 and 10 at.% oxygen. A transition from A-15 W films to bcc W films occurred as the oxygen was removed from the deposition chamber by presputtering the target for extended periods of time. The binding energies of the W atoms in A-15 and bcc W films are similar, as is the binding energy of the O atoms in the two different crystal structures, indicating that the oxygen is not present as a tungsten oxide compound. The resistivity of A-15 W films is always higher than the resistivity of bcc W films due to the increased oxygen concentration and small grain size of the A-15 films. However, the sputter deposition pressure is found to have a greater effect on resistivity. This is attributed to the formation of cracks in the film.     

Familial model of data

The family of sets is proposed as the basic structure for modeling data. A family is created by indexing one set of objects by another to represent a directed binary association between two sets. Familial models are shown to have a number of distinct advantages in supporting diverse user views through a hierarchy of abstractions and a variety of derived data, and in describing themselves and other data models through metamodels. An algebra of families is introduced to provide a data definition, maintenance and processing language that is minimal, intuitive, algebraic and theoretically sound. The language is extended to a specification language for database application systems, largely eliminating the need for embedding database constructs into procedural programming languages.     

Using random telephone sampling to recruit generalizable samples for family violence studies.

Convenience sampling methods predominate in recruiting for laboratory-based studies within clinical and family psychology. The authors used random digit dialing (RDD) to determine whether they could feasibly recruit generalizable samples for 2 studies (a parenting study and an intimate partner violence study). RDD screen response rate was 42-45%; demographics matched those in the 2000 U.S. Census, with small- to medium-sized differences on race, age, and income variables. RDD respondents who qualified for, but did not participate in, the laboratory study of parents showed small differences on income, couple conflicts, and corporal punishment. Time and cost are detailed, suggesting that RDD may be a feasible, effective method by which to recruit more generalizable samples for in-laboratory studies of family violence when those studies have sufficient resources. Robert Stanton Nichols (1929-2005).

Presents an obituary for Robert Stanton Nichols, an advocate of military psychology who worked tirelessly to improve working conditions for military personnel and their families. Nichols spearheaded efforts to convince the APA Council to honor the uniformed psychologists who made contributions during the Vietnam conflict several decades earlier. He was a fellow in APA Divisions 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology), 19 (Society for Military Psychology), and 48 (Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict, and Violence). Understanding immigrant families from around the world: Introduction to the special issue.

Investigations of immigrant families enable researchers to trace family processes and children’s psychological adjustment in the presence of trenchant sociocultural change, cultural conflict, family dislocation, and the need for readjustment to new social environments. This special issue of 15 articles presents psychosocial research on immigrant families and children residing in Canada, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United States. The articles focus on the psychosocial adaptation of immigrant families, parenting practices and their implications for child outcomes, and the importance of parent–adolescent relationships for adolescent mental health. Most of the articles are based on quantitative research methodologies. It is concluded that research on immigrant families is well suited to advance knowledge about the mutual dependence of dynamic sociocultural and family processes. AN ALGORITHM FOR CANONICAL PIECEWISE-LINEAR DYNAMIC NETWORKS CONTAINING DEVICES WITH CHARACTERISTIC FAMILY

This paper improves the modeling method for the device with characteristic family presented by L. O. Chua (1977) and results in the one-dimensional fluctuating canonical piecewise-linear model. It is an efficient model. The algorithm for canonical piecewise-linear dynamic networks with one dimensional fluctuating model is discussed in detail.     

Managing infinite variability in mobile terminal software

Mobile terminals have evolved from basic portable telephones to complex and diverse devices that encompass dozens of other features, ranging from tri‐dimensional games to office suites with data transmission capabilities. Variability is value: mobile terminal manufacturers must succeed in fulfilling the requirements of hundreds of mobile telecom operators worldwide, and at the same time increase the value of their brand by adopting a common user interface style while offering the features that the target end‐user category desires. This makes for practically infinite variability and creates a business problem. The complexity of the variability problem increases due to issues such as the ability to ‘plug and play’ and ‘feature descension’ (the down‐scaling of high‐end features and their introduction into lower‐end models). The main lesson we have learned from our experience in this field is that the application of relatively simple architectural patterns usually eases up management of the complexity at the architectural level. However, tackling the variability problem at the technical level is ineffective unless the organization is able to ensure the application of the solutions. We analyze the main challenges that lie behind the variability problem in mobile terminals, at both technical and organizational level, and illustrate some of the solutions we have implemented together with our product developers and system architects. Our experience calls for more applied research in the area of variability management, as well as for a number of enhancements to academic curricula. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
