The major purpose of this paper is to present the useful techniques in the optimal allocation of water resources (OAWR) and to demonstrate using water resources applications how these methods can be conveniently employed in practice for systematically studying both simple and complex water resources problems. Formal modelling techniques in multiobjective decision-making provide many benefits to professionals working in water resources and elsewhere. A new Large-system Hierarchical Dynamic Programming (LHDP) method to solve the model can be carried out to ascertain the consequences of meaningful parameter changes upon the optimal or compromise solution.As a case study, the techniques and methods are applied to the OAWR of the Yellow River Basin (YRB) of China. The introduction of new high bandwidth services such as video-on-demand by cable operators will put a strain on existing resources. It is important for cable operators to know how many resources to commit to the network to satisfy customer demands. In this paper, we develop models of voice and video traffic to determine the effect of demand growth on hybrid fiber–coax networks. We obtain a set of guidelines that network operators can use to build out their networks in response to increased demand. We begin with one type of traffic and generalize to an arbitrary number of high-bandwidth constant bit rate (CBR) like services to obtain service blocking probabilities. We consider the effect of supporting variable bit rate (VBR) packet-switched traffic in addition to CBR services. These computations help us to determine how cable networks would function under various conditions (i.e., low, medium, and heavy loads). We also consider how the growth rate of the popularity of such services would change over time, and how this impacts network planning. Our findings will help cable operators estimate how much bandwidth they need to provision for a given traffic growth model and connection blocking requirement.  相似文献

This paper presents an efficient dynamic spectrum allocation (DSA) scheme in a flexible spectrum licensing environment where multiple networks coexist and interfere with each other. In particular, an extension of virtual boundary concept in DSA is proposed, which is spectrally efficient than the previous virtual boundary concept applied to donor systems only. Here, the same technique is applied to both donor and rental systems so as to further reduce the occurrences where the insertion of guard bands is obligatory and as a result provides better spectral efficiency. The proposed extension improves the spectrum utilization without any compromise on interference and fairness issues.  相似文献
