Some limitations of three dimensional Navier-Stokes Characteristic Boundary Conditions (3D-NSCBC) are discussed for flows traveling in a direction that is oblique to the boundary. To limit errors generated at boundaries with flows having any arbitrary direction, it is proposed to organize the wave decomposition in a coordinate system that is attached to the local flow streamline crossing the boundary, because some modeled expressions are not frame independent. Compared to previous 3D-NSCBC, the modified strategy accounting for oblique waves is found to improve the outflow treatment for transverse outgoing vortices, up to vortices crossing an outflow corner. Finger seals represent a compliant seal configuration. What differentiates and makes them preferable to the brush seals is their potential hydrodynamic lifting capabilities, and thus their noncontacting nature. The fingers' compliance allows both axial and radial adjustment to rotor excursions without damage to the integrity of the seal. The work to be presented here concerns the mapping of the thermofluid and dynamic behavior of a repetitive section of the newly proposed design of a two-layer finger seal. The assembly contains four high-pressure and four low-pressure fingers arranged axially in a staggered configuration and subject to an axial pressure drop. The numerical three-dimensional temperature and pressure results were obtained using a customized Navier-Stokes–based commercial package, CFD-ACE+. The results were obtained in a parametric fashion where the high-pressure side, the speed of rotation, and the heat transfer coefficient are the controlling parameters; the gas compressibility and the viscosity are also considered in the model of the thermofluids seal behavior. The stiffness and damping characteristics of the padded/unpadded fingers and the fluid were obtained through numerical simulation and were then used to model the interaction with the motion of the shaft. It is shown that the proposed geometry provides satisfactory lifting capability for the fingers. The fingers follow the motion of the shaft and their stiffness is small when compared to that of the fluid; thus, the displacement transmissibility is in most cases close to 1. Lifting forces and seal leakages, as well as the interaction between the profiled backplate and the low-pressure fingers through Coulomb damping/friction forces, are also parametrically studied. 相似文献

This work focuses on a new type of cost function based on fractional operators. To do so, the concept of definite integral is extended to arbitrary real-order. Some properties of this new fractional-order definite integral are studied and a fractional-order Barrow's rule is proposed. It is illustrated by an example (the design of an IIR filter) how this new kind of cost function can be a valuable tool in problems where optimal design methods are involved. 相似文献

A fast and exact procedure for the numerical synthesis of stationary multivariate Gaussian time series with a priori prescribed and well controlled auto- and cross-covariance functions is proposed. It is based on extending the circulant embedding technique to the multivariate case and can be viewed as a modification and variation around the Chan and Wood algorithm proposed earlier to solve the same problem. The procedure is shown to yield time series possessing exactly the desired covariance structure, when sufficient conditions are satisfied. Such conditions are discussed theoretically and examined on several examples of multivariate time series models. Issues related to prescribing a priori the spectral structure rather than the covariance one are also discussed. The MHD Jeffery-Hamel flows in non-parallel walls are investigated analytically for strongly nonlinear ordinary differential equations using homotopy analysis method (HAM). Results for velocity profiles in divergent and convergent channels are presented for various values of Hartmann and Reynolds numbers. The convergence of the obtained series solutions is explicitly studied and a proper discussion is given for the obtained results. Spraying of agricultural chemicals result in their travel downward through the unsaturated zone and adsorption on the surrounding soil. Infiltration from rainfall and irrigation solubilize these chemicals and carry the dissolved components to the ground water. This process can cause soil and ground water contamination the extent of which is greatly influenced by soil characteristics, the rate and method of chemical application. This paper presents experimental and mathematical results describing the transport of the herbicide Alachlor in laboratory soil columns with variable length, initial moisture content, and Alachlor application rate and method. The laboratory time‐dependent distribution of Alachlor concentration is used to calibrate a numerical flow and transport model. The model was also used to conduct a sensitivity analysis with respect to soil and chemical properties and identify parameters value ranges controlling Alachlor transport in porous media. 相似文献

This paper describes the study of the impact of energy absorption by wave farms on the nearshore wave climate and, in special, the influence of the incident wave conditions and the number and position of the wave farms, on the nearshore wave characteristics is studied and discussed. The study was applied to the maritime zone at the West coast off Portugal, namely in front of São Pedro de Moel, where it is foreseen the deployment of offshore wave energy prototypes and farms between the 30 m and 90 m bathymetric lines, with an area of 320 Km2. In this study the REFDIF model was adapted in order to model the energy extraction by wave farms. Three different sinusoidal incident wave conditions were considered. Five different wave farm configurations, varying the position of the wave farm, its number and the width of the navigation channels at each wave farm were analysed. The results for each configuration in terms of the change of the wave characteristics (wave height and wave direction) at the nearshore are presented, compared and discussed for three representative wave conditions. 相似文献

The metal matrix nanocomposites in this study consist of a A356 alloy matrix reinforced with 1.0 wt.% SiC nanoparticles that are dispersed within the molten alloy matrix using ultrasonic cavitation and induction melting technologies. The required ultrasonic parameters to achieve the required cavitation for adequate degassing and refining of the aluminium alloy as well as the fluid flow characteristics for uniform dispersion of the nanoparticles into the 356 matrix are being investigated in this study using an in-house developed magneto-hydro-dynamics model. The magneto-hydro-dynamics model accounts for turbulent fluid flow, heat transfer and solidification, electromagnetic field as well as the complex interactions between the solidifying alloy and nanoparticles using ANSYS Maxwell and ANSYS Fluent dense discrete phase model and a particle engulfment and pushing model.
